Divisible by Zero done: http://www.drunkduck.com/Divisible_by_Zero/?p=20439

Rating:3

Beginning with the art, I am afraid this is barely passable. Characatures of real people, such as the president and vice president are identifiable, however the art style could use heavy refinement. Character's bodies look to be drawn with little pre-drawing involved, making their shapes rather inconsistent. What I suggest is pre-drawing the bodies, updating the style a bit mostly in regards to the character's shapes. The heads in particular are misshapen, with somewhat flat backs, instead of a rounded bulge of a normal head. Your expressions are good though.

For the most part, the strips are smirk worthy, with the usual exceptions being the political based ones. I’m not into politics, and comics about them quite honestly aren’t my cup of tea. Overall, I’d have to classify this as a fairly average comic, with the occasional gem of humor.

Hey, I'd like my comic torn apart and made fun of for its crappy 'art' and lame 'jokes'.

Well, as scary as this is going to be, cause he has actually been completely honest with his reviews...I submit Cheese & Crackers...the infamous stick comic...I'm more concerned with how the jokes are than the art, cause it's a stick figure comic lol. But I do love the art too for some reason. Their facial expressions make me laugh :).

So, link in my sig :). Keep it up :)

As a note, reviews are on hold until my job situation clears up, and my internet connection improves.

I'll get around to them all eventually, I promise.

Alright, I'll just start with Cool Fire Bird. I have class in a few minutes, so the review is going to need to wait.

Expect it in a couple of days. Also, remember, i will be assigning a score to the comic. So if you don't want to be voted down (if the comic gets less than a five) let me know and I'll move on to someone else.

Nah, that's all right. I have to handle reviews right? From what I've seen, you're fair and aren't nasty about the negative part of the review, so I'll be okay if the score isn't a 5. :D

Thank you for taking your time to review it.

As if you weren't already elitist enough.

Suddenly a million souls just shrugged their collective shoulders.

Go ahead and work on a good comic, then come talk to me.

This is hpkomic's topic, all. He can respond how he likes. Critics are supposed to be elitist. That's their job... you don't like his opinion, you maybe should try somewhere other than his review area, eh?

Lonely Pair review:
Someone
First of all, this is a pretty neat comic. It's one I'd like to see continued, and improved, because the concept is interesting.
However, while excellent in it's origins, it faulters in it's production. So let's divide this into three sections.

Art, writing and production values.

Art: The manga look is somewhat unrefined in this comic, but overall suits the mood and characters. While I in NO way discourage the use of a manga style, I strongly, strongly suggest you get a bit more experience in drawing styles outside of manga, or even life drawing. Just to expand your artistic well, and apply different prinicples from each style into the comic, making the look striking and diverse. The coloring is a bit refreshing and not at times. Gradients should NEVER take the place of shading in a comic, but I am conflicted because certain aspects look wonderful with the gradients. What I propose is a meshing of your interesting gradient work with the use of shading, since I assume you are working in photoshop, create a new layer for the shading over your gradients, and use a dark and light color to shade/highlight areas, and set it at a low opacity. Now you'll have shading to help give the art depth, and keep the interesting gradient work. As for your lineart color choices, they're honestly top notch, and I like to see lineart other than blakc use primarily. For now, I would have to say your work, at least artwise is passable. Hopefully my suggestions will help, and if need be, i'll provide contact info so I can explain in greater detail.

The writing: And interesting idea, some somewhat standard dialogue, and some rather gaping problems within. Some of th character's dialogue seems to expositiony at times. I understand it's a unique world, but having characters explain what's going on when they're used to it kind of throws the feel and flow of the comic off. I suffer from the same things at time, so I know from experience. The best example of this I could find was on this page , when the winter spirit is speaking to herself. Overall, there are other spots where I see you lapse into this, but I won't pick your work apart. Just letting you know to avoid that if you can. The dialogue feels a bit unrealistic at times as well, so you may want to practice speaking your lines, and seeing how well they flow, and how real they seem. Does anyone actually talk like that line you just spoke? This is a bit trickier when writing different cultures, or made up worlds, but it should be something to be kept in mind.

Production Values: This is where you have the most issues honestly. You need to really do something in this area. For one, you need to craft better dialogue ballooons. It seems as though you don't spend much time here, but with some work on this, that would bump of your comics quality a signifigant amount. There are several tutorials on dialogue balloons online, google will help you out here, unless you'd like me to explain one way of doing them. Also, please, please, please get a new font for your comic. ComicSans is the bottom of the barrel, and quite ugly. There are many , many , many websites with comic fonts, and this is one of my biggest gripes with your comic actually. Fonts can seriously kill a comic.
When doing your sound effects, you may want to reconsider the types of gradients you use and play around photoshop layer styles, outline, shape, shadow, glow. Part of the problem with your sound effects is that they don't "pop" from the page. Layer style adjustment would help make them feel a bit better, and above all, you need interesting fonts to communicate the sounds and actions, so spend a lot of time experimenting with fonts, and see what works.

As for your rating, you have an interesting comic, but several glaring things cause me to rate it a 3. Please continue though, because I AM interested in what I've seen, it just needs to be ironed out a bit more.

Overall, I do like what I see, but there are things that need to be worked on. If you want to contact me, I am available on AIM, MSN, YAHOO, ICQ and e-mail, I can go into a bit more depth about all this. Please keep at this comic, it'll be nice to see where it goes.

I've taken a lot of suggestions as far as my comic. I've gone back, fixed the speach bubbles and the type inside them, and have been working on my line weights and gray tones. I had a review a long time ago but I've gotten a bit further since then. Would it be possible to review mine also? Thank you.

PS:My comic's link is in the signature.
