How would you describe your comic art style?

I was wondering how everyone here would describe their art style, preferably just describe it in one or two sentences. You can post a picture too, if you'd like. I'll start.

I'd say my art style is cartoony, but not childish, and I use thick but clean line work.

"Realistic but still recognisably comic book" and "comic book but not mainstream."

At least that's what I asked the artist to aim for!

Oh god, I suck at saying stuff like this about myself.

In one word "Sketchy"

I tend to think that my own style is basically "saturday morning cartoons." Straightforward lines, simple coloring, moderate attention to anatomy with a few standout errors now and then. I can do backgrounds fairly well when I try, but since they're so time consuming I tend to go for a lot of shortcuts. (Not that I've drawn anything since last year, haha)

I'd love to be able to draw like Mike Mignola or Eric Powell, but I think something more like Castle Waiting is a more realistic goal. :] Her artwork just feels like something I could do if I had her level of workmanship.

One of my better RDT pages (showing my typical style but with no horrible anatomy errors): http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Repository_of_Dangerous_Things/index.php?p=182890

I'll admit that my 'newer' comics like Abby Sanders and Made-Up stories have a more simplified look, but the basic elements are still there, and I can't seem to fool around too much with proportions or construction without thinking it looks strange, so my figures more or less follow the same style too.

I think I am still trying to "find" a style. Heh.

I have been told by others that it's something between manga and realism. I don't know art styles well enough to understand what that means, and I'm not sure which direction it's headed. To be honest, most of my artistic influences are DD artists. I don't read other comics. There are a few I aspire to be more like, but I like different things from different people.

I think I'd call it simplified but mostly realistic proportions/anatomy, slightly exaggerated for emotions and expression (or at least, that's my goal). I keep altering small things and trying new things with it too.

How would I describe it?
Totally sweet!

Seriously though, my style is just my own self taught drawing style combined with my wife's snazzy pencil colouring.
Its all gloriously informal!

Your wife colors for you? It's nice to be able to equally share in a hobby. Usually what you'd hear is "I sneak in some games when my wife's not watching Oprah."

===================
My style turned out to be an amalgam of 80's American adventure cartoons and anime.

I rather dig your style Miai. Then again, I love that influenced by the 80's and anime thing that happens a lot in art these days.

As for myself, I am a big fan of anime but I also love the freedom one gets when you just let go and forget super realism and style. Therefore, I would personally like to be a bit more like Ed McGuinness or Cheeks but I am still trying to find where I lay style wise.

Though I will say this, I always like my pencils better than my inks.

Er...what I lack for in talent, I make up for in enthusiasm!

Seriously though, a bit improportioned at times. Somewhat sketchy at others. Really bright colors. Quite cartoony, I think. I am not down on myself, I'm just being frankly honest. I love drawing them, but I won't sit here and pretend I think I'm the greatest artist on earth.

Most of the people who comment on my art style call it "retro" or "old timey comic book". For a while I resented this because I felt that it pigeonholed me.

But, well, when I look at my influences it's almost exclusively a bunch of comic book artists who operated between 40-60 years ago.

Mm, I'm going to go with 'post-highschool comic sketching'. I don't think my style really reflects standard American or Japanese appearances. Seriously, it's based on a book I read as a child about how to draw pigs with lines for eyes.

I'm not really about looking too polished. Feels less natural. I've also received the dubious distinction of 'cute but disturbing'.

"You tell yourself to just
enjoy the process," he added. "That whether you succeed or fail, win or
lose, it will be fine. You pretend to be Zen. You adopt detachment, and
ironic humor, while secretly praying for a miracle."

I draw in a more alternative, pen and ink style. For my current project, I'm looking a lot at Will Eisner and Spiegelman's MAUS (though I'd hardly compare my work to theirs).

I try to stick to proportions, but at the same time keep the drawing pretty loose

Mines pretty much a blend between anime and a tad of realism (I think the anime shows more in this page lol) But I'm very experimental with the coloring. And I'm also trying new styles on a couple of side stories I'm working on.

There's nothing wrong with having a retro style :) I've been told that the style I use in Dark Light is quite retro, and I decided to take it as a compliment. I've also been told that my usual style reminds someone of 80's cartoons, which is pretty cool, despite being a 90's kid myself lol.

I don't draw at all, my wife on the other hand has stuck with a watercolour pencil and brush ink wash for the comic, works pretty well I think. Of late she's been experimenting with other styles, mostly to do with ink.

This is an example of a different take on the Cardinal.

This is a watercolour/brush ink of the Mist Reaver landing.

Finally the City of Wyrden, which is more brush ink art with a little watercolour pencil.

I guess I've got a fairly cartoony style. you know, underneath the poor anatomy and inconsistent proportions.

The art I do for CYON is purposefully a lot more simple and slapdash than my best stuff (else I'd never update).

It also makes it easy to animate.

Hm....various late 80's to '90s anime influences, mixed with just my own thing, dipped in a batter of weirdness.
I really don't know how to describe it. You tell me. XP

The girls I draw are much more anime looking than the guys, they have smaller noses, rounder faces and bigger eyes. Originally I tried to do more of my own thing with them, but that just resulted in them looking exactly like the guys, apparently. =/

I use the cel-shaded anime coloring style mostly, even for my comics themselves these days. I just like the way it looks, even in grayscale.

Hmm... I'd have to say that my art is kind of a mesh of manga style and realism. (I guess? Yeah.) The way I draw, say, eyes is obviously more manga-esque, but in the past few years, especially thanks to my figure drawing classes, I've learned how to draw how to draw something that DOESN'T look like OEL manga, and have tried to incorporate that into my comics. It's all a work in progress.

My style is definitely cartoonish. Heavy on the Bruce Timm influence. A webcomic with the wish to animate it for TV.

My style is a combination of manga-surrealism-and western noir. The manga aspect is very obvious as is the surrealism, but it's harder to see the western aspect. Over the years I've went from carbon copying manga style to developing something that's more my own, that I like more than just doing the same thing everyone else is doing. I don't care really whether it looks just like a pro's manga that you'd find on a store shelf. After all, manga developed in the first place from experimentation.

Also, the way something I'm drawing turns out depends a lot on what music I'm listening to at the time. For example, a fast, poppy song gives me cute and fluffy line work, while dark or slow gives me heavier lines and a more realistic take. I find switching things up every so often fun.
Run along with Captian Jack!
