How Often Do You Check Your Stats and Pageviews?

That's the question!

How often do you click that little 'i' by your comic to see how many pageviews you've gotten for the day? I'm kind of trying to get a support group here, because I find I've been doing it probably too often. @_@;

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say I click it once every hour... twice probably.

I check a few times a day (maybe more than a few...). If it jumps up, I click on the counter on my page to see more stuff (referral pages especially). I thrive on any kind of feedback/encouragement. (If I get a comment, I go entirely giddy.)

So, yeah, you're not alone. I think I need a support group, but supporting my desire for support seems a little antiproductive...

I started to this this recently. When I first showed up here, no one was reading my comic, and my stats were low and didn't change much, and it was easy to ignore them. Recently, I've been gaining a little ground and that makes my stats page a bit more interesting. I find myself checking a few times a day to see if I'm having a "good" day or a "bad" day. It seems like a silly waste of time really - I mean, what difference does it make?

Besides, it looks like my hits are based on how much I post on the msg board, not on the comic itself!

And yet, i keep checking.

Sign me up for the support group.

I usually check once in the morning, and once at night, but I try not to fret over it too much. I do like to periodically check my stat counter and see where hits are being referred from, though - I find that more interesting than the actual number of pageviews themselves. It's fun to find out someone's talking about your comic on another site, hehe. :3

Sometimes I get obessed and keep checking, but lately I've stopped. My views rarely seem to correlate with anything. I don't get a huge surge on update days, or weekends or anything, and my comic is rarely stable in it's position in the 'charts'. Due to the fluctuation, I find checking doesn't help much.

I'm totally addicted, Lynn here. I click that little "i" like I have a beef with it. Several, several times a day. We don't get a whole lot of comments, so on the rare occassion we do, I am a dancin' fool.

I tend to check it several times a day (more if the hits are shooting up for whatever reason).

It is the coolest when you get like 150 or 200 page views and you have no idea why!

It's also very cool to get comments/feedback (but that's another thread, literally!)

When that happens, I assume someone wandered into my archives. There's no way that many different people could be looking at my comic... But I think it's awesome when people read my archives, because it is my whole story I'm proud of, not my latest page.

I check about once every few days. I am rarely certain what makes the pageviews shoot up, though around the days I usually update I do get more pageviews.

Many times though, it is the comments I am after rather than the views. I am so very interested to see what my readers think. Not only in the comics, but also in my actual trade, which is novel writing. That's why I stalk the Art of Veiling forums like a mad woman ;)

I check a couple times in a day, more often when it looks like I'm getting a lot of pageviews. And at least once at the end of the night to see what my new ranking is.

Me too, and I imagine most others... But I don't get many comments. So, I have to get excited about page views as "feedback." :)

I usually check my stats whenever I check my email, which is at least twice a day. Like a lot of you, I check more often if it seems like I'm getting more views than normal and I loves me some comments.

I'm hopelessly addicted to checking.

But it's all still very new to me, and I'm still excited that I have even a couple readers for Panda panda. :)

While at work or at home I have a page open constantly to statcounter.com and when I think about it I refresh the page to see if the two comics (mine and bf's) have gotten any hits. If the numbers change I rush to my DD control panel to see if anyone's commented. :)

I agree with everyone else though, the hits are nice, but it's the comments that make my day. That and seeing that someone new has faved them. So knowing how much I love seeing the comments, every comic I read I try and post something. I'd like to be as encouraging for other, as others have been for me.

Hello, my name is Bryan and I'm a webstats abuser.

*pauses for collective "hi, bryan" *

Anywho... I check my actual website less and less as my stats go up, but the number is most likely (now) around 4-5 times a day.

As for how much I check DD, I'm not sure how much is 'good', so I check it, just to compare it to previous days. My actual website gets 3000-5000 page views a day and even then, I don't know if it's good, but darn it if I don't obsess about those numbers going up. lol

I really don't check all that often.. it was exciting when my comic was getting really high pageviews, but they've sunk down a bit since then.
I didn't even know about the "i" button!! XD!
today I got.. 1710 pageviews
I find it more exciting when I don't check very regularly.

i check it two or three times a day, what sucks though is if i look through my archives it counts me checking my own pages....so...someone could just look at their own pages over and over and have their rank go up...its crazy..

What's scarier is they could do the same thing some people do on Google Video and get a bot to do it for them.

As for me, the ranks update once a day, so I usually check it twice a day, or more if I've sat at the computer for too long.

I check our page views and rankings at least once a day, oftentimes two or three times. I'm still confused about this "mysterious formula" they use for rankings. I mean, we get a respectable amount of pageviews, I think, considering we're not ranked in the top 150 or anything, and the fact that we don't have a sequential comic up at this time. For a four-page "comic" that's just showing off some pretty art and a single, orphaned page from a proposed book, I think we do all right.

Problem is, for the 10th, our page views quadrupled over what they were on the 9th, and yet we've backslid from ranking around 615 to 984! I don't get it, and I can't figure out how they do the whole ranking thing. I'm sure that it's because we haven't updated in a while. But still, that's a heck of a slide considering the amount of views!

Oh... and one more thing... COMMENTS!! SOMEONE GIVE US COMMENTS!! The only feedback we get is in the forums, which is good, but man, I'd like to see some on the page itself...

Argh, the time I am replying I could be looking at my stats!!!

I generally look once in the morning and once at night. Mostly on days when I update.

Read "The Devon Legacy".

I check multiple times a day on the comic that I happen to be updating at the time. I used to get consistently in the 200-300s on my first comic with an odd 20 thrown in here and there. You people in the thousands are scary... then again real life comics states it gets upwards of 60,000 hits daily so its not "that" weird...
Everybody wants that fold of matches to reinflate their confidence.

I check it several times a day, even when I don't have an update that day. I think I check it more on the days I do have an update, but I still DO check it on days I don't. I was so thrilled, I have a 500+ day this week, so either I got a lot of people in or some people were reading my archives. I haven't had that many since I first uploaded my archives onto Drunk Duck. (I've had this comic hosted elsewhere and it got over 100 comics before I moved it, so that day was easier to understand...) Hmm...

I'm just obsessing about nothing, though. I'd have my own domain and multiple advertisements in several different places if I really cared all that much, though. Still, nice to know SOMEONE is reading, eh?

I am so confused about this ranking thing. I mean, I mentioned before about the sudden backsliding we were doing, and had no explanation. We eventually dropped down past the 1100 or so range. But then, suddenly, we're gradually moving back up, and are at 955 tonight. Thing is, our number of pageviews actually went DOWN in that intervening time frame. So what is it that moves a person in the rankings? I'm starting to think that pageviews and number of updates have far less to do with it that I thought!

I also wondered, is there a way to look at older stats? Like, maybe, a highest ranking to date or lowest ranking to date? Just curious.

I find myself checking much less the lower I get. When I was in the top 10 strips I checked frequently because it was kinda exciting. ;) Now that my ranking has slipped after my forced 3-week hiatus I'm kind of... meh. :P

I'm right there with you. I love it on those days when the stats jump for no apparent reason... but then I'm left wondering why the rest of the week!

to answer the original question, probably once or twice a day, when I get on DD to check for updates to comics on my favorites list.
