Personally, I kind of rate mine at a 2. But lately I haven't been happy with just about all of the work I do so I have a fairly low esteem of it. I'm in that stage with it where I think it's about time to wrap things up on this one.

My readers might rate it more along a 3.5 or 4 if I were to guess. They always seem pretty enthusiastic about it.

I think my art is nice, I feel 3 on some pages but amazing 5 on others.(1's for the early stuff) My writing is shit, so 2 on that

Also I give my web design a 5 since i'm in love with it *makes out*

Hmmmm.... I flip between 3, 4 and 5 pretty often... I would say most of the time I am a 4. I think the reason is because I am a 5 quite often when I am writing and coming up with the story but I am quite often a 3 when it comes to the art.

I don't think I can continuously maintain at 5 or even 4... I think sometimes it is important to beat yourself down and critique, dis and just point out all the negative parts of your comic (So that you feel like a 2) so that you can fix and improve on the comic. It works for me at least. I kinda motivate myself that way.

i think i love my comic as much as i love myself, and to be blunt, i'm starting to believe i'm a little much extreme in my emotions , i could have been overly enthusiastic about my comic yesterday and now i can't even bear to take a look at it.

right now ... i would say ... 1

I don't think you should be hanging out on a webcomic forum if you're looking to not discuss webcomics. There are plenty of other forums that talk about 'real' comics(since webcomics clearly don't apply as 'real' comics being on the web and all)

id agree with that...except webcomics arent even being discussed on this forum. seriously, look at the threads. this forum reads pretty much the same as the tips and tricks forum.

Im all for discussing webcomics...but lets actually DISCUSS about them, not just redundant topics like "how much do you like your comic characters?"

Im all for talking about whats going on in my favorite webcomics. lets discuss plotlines thats going on in the comics im reading and stuff like that.

I just pray to Jebus that everything works for me.

Actually all the comics I have are pretty old. I doubt people would want to discuss Ranma, Street Fighter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Ultimate Warrior, and old Gen 13 comics from the 80s and 90s :P

Then people would get mad because only comics that get high traffic are being discussed. Charby has had topics like that and people have to go in just to say how it's stupid to be giving more exposure to the comic and such.

Since web comics are not real comics and can't teach anything about making good comics no one wants to discuss the plots to them :(

well, and this is going to sound really harsh, but those people are stupid. The comics that get high traffic have high traffic for one reason...they are better than the ones that dont. its simple fact. make a good comic and people will notice it and start talking about it. The oversaturation of content means that 99 percent of everything out there sucks...and its just the truth. peoples feelings will get hurt, but i really dont care. I am a fan of good comics and i want to talk about them.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with advertising, exposure, or simple chance at all.

Popular does not equal good. What you're saying is misguided and untrue, in fact the majority of the popular comics are godforsaken trash with art and story. They are popular because they started early in the webcomic world and their readership snowballed with consistent updates. On top of that they have money to spare with advertisements-high traffic has nothing to do with being better/good, it has to do with time and money.
Off the top of my head I can name 10 webcomics with little traffic to every popular comic that are twice, if not three times as good.

(There are exceptions obviously, there's some good comics getting high traffic like Phoenix requiem.)

then if you can name 10 webcomics that are better than the popular ones, why arent you out there spreading them by word of mouth? that helps the comics you find to be good to get more traffic and then popularity. dont sit there playing mum, go spread the word!

The ones that are popular are good...Im thinking of the webcomics that I hear mentioned when people mention webcomics, and I usually hear ones like achewood, penny arcade, perry bible fellowship, etc...all good comics. alot of someones somewhere along the way have liked the comic enough to make it popular. to say its just chance and advertising makes you sound bitter.

Those three are good, they also have been around for years. But what i'm trying to say is the majority is not automatically good:
http://topwebcomics.com/
These are some of the most popular comics right now. There are a few that stand out as excellent, but the majority are average or even downright awful. They have all been heavily advertised at one point of another. It's not being bitter nickguy it's just being truthful that popular does not equal good, and you don't have to be good to be popular.

I actually kind of agree with this statement.

I dunno that's just my opinion.

A lot of the list/networking/hosting sites have forums to discuss certain comics. I wouldn't be put off in the least if folks did that on DD (either for DD comics or non-DD comics). I don't see anything wrong with giving credit where credit's due- if folks get pissy about it, it's just sour grapes, you know?

So why not start topics about your favorite webcomics if that's what you want to talk about? Or start threads to share your favorite comics that might not be the popular ones?

I have tried to start topics about mainstream comics, that hasnt gone over so well...I will start sa thread about my favorite webcomics. I just think that the comic discussion forum should be just that...comic discussion. Like I said before, I feel like this forum is turning into tips and tricks more than actually talking about comics, whether print or web.

I guess it's just depending on what the majority or forum-posters want to talk about- not saying that in a dickish way, mind you. A lot of people want to talk about what they know (which nine times out of ten is either the popular webcomics, their own stuff, or their friends' stuff).

Talking about print comics here is even trickier, because not everyone who reads webcomics reads print comics, too. (I don't; I can't afford to anymore.) And webcomic creators/readers are often the kinds of people who are turned off by the more mainstream companies/books.

I'm not sure I agree that this forum only needs to be about specific comics. But that said, I do support your "Let's have more threads about actual comics!" initiative. I'm always down for finding/sharing new stuff.

4. I looove my comics. I've put a lot into their writing and development and even their web prentation; now I just need to invest in actually drawing them on time, lol.

They're both almost exactly my kind of comics. (Although I'm quite pleased and inspired by the wide variety of good stuff other people create. :D)

I agree with Nick. My eyes usually unfocus in these "What can I say to myself about my own comics?" threads. Honestly, who here reads through these threads past the 1st 5 posts?

The only reason I read up to the end of this thread is because Nick started this "debate."

I think threads discussing popular DD webcomics would be awesome. I'd definitely participate if the webcomic is 1 I'm following. And if I'm not following, if the discussion is interesting, it may make me follow it.

How does that help me? Well, if my post is erudite enough, I may impress someone enough to check out my webcomic. Because they'd actually read the thread instead of their eyes unfocusing. At the very least, I'd have fun discussing a webcomic's story/characters.

Edit: To start, I think all Featured Comics currently on the front page should have a stickied thread automatically started in this forum. Ppl can discuss whatever is relevant, inside.

For example, sometimes I read a Featured Comic, and it's so good, I read thru the entire thing, and I "reward" the author with a big critique at the last page. Well, if I had enough to say, I can post it in that stickied thread as well. And if ppl disagree with me or add something, I'd continue to visit that thread.

Once the Feature is off the front page, the thread can be unstickied and be freed into the wilds of this subforum.

Edit #2: Wow, Skullbie's hot.

I started this debate though because i feel that this forum is becoming a bit pretentious. I mean, theres so much threads about "how do you draw/what is your process/how do you write/etcetcetc" and then when i go check out some of the peoples comics, It's...well...its crap. if you take offense to this then i mean you. if not, then i dont mean you lol.

I dont have a problem with discussing techniques and things. thats why theres the tips and tricks forum. But i felt the comic discussion forum was turning into a tips and tricks-lite, where everyone just wants to talk about themselves. Theres TONS of opportunity on these boards to talk about yourself. theres the why did you update thread...the quack with the ducks...and many more. Lets start talking about COMICS, damnit! :)

I'd give mine a 2 or 3.

It's not what I really want to be comicking, but until I craft better dialog and cleaner style I can't (personally) hope to do justice to stories worth telling.

Practice, practice!

I'd say a good 4.
I really enjoy it. It's fun to work on, and I love the characters, story, plot, hardships and happiness that happens in it.

Even though I'm not far into it, I've had the characters and idea in my head for so long I'm really happy that I can finally put them down on paper, so that's part of it.

And even though I know there's a lot I can improve on, right now I'm just happy with it the way it is.
SHH, I'm sleeping.
