I'm always interested to know what people think of their own work. So, care to rate yer comic on my handy-dandy scale?

1: Yeah, my comic sucks and I know it. I'll never be good. I don't even know why I bother.

2: It's not as good as a lot of stuff out there- I know I've got a long way to go. But hey- it's not the worst comic out there either, and at least I'm trying, right?

3: While I'm pretty proud of my comic, I'm realistic, too! I've got a lot of improving to do before I'm really happy with it, but I'm pleased with how I'm progressing.

4: Well, it's not perfect, and it might not be for everybody- but I think it's well above average. If I keep working hard, I think it can be a success.

5: My comic is the best thing ever, and there's no reason why anyone wouldn't love it. I'm sure that soon I'll be rich and famous.

I'd probably rank myself a 4 on a good day, and a 3 on a bad day. ;)

How about you?

That's a hard question... My comic is my absolute favorite one, but I wouldn't force it on anyone. Your options seem to be more of "what would others think of your comic" or a comparison to other comics in the most general sense, so I have to go with a 2 -- or a 2.5.

I could be wrong, but I love my comic so I would give it a 5.
After all, if I didn't like it, why would I keep making it?

@ usedbooks:
Ooh, you're right. I fail! :( That is a kind of a limited definition of "like". I guess I skewed it more towards a comparative/critical sense, instead of rating on pure emotional attachment/ personal sense of fulfillment. (If we're goin' for that- I'd rate, like, a 7 out of 5. ;) )

Geez, he gets featured and it goes straight to his head. :)

I like my comic I think it's pretty good. There are pages with art and dialogue after I re read wish I'd made better. But overall I'm pretty happy with it so far, so I"ll go with anywhere between 3.5 and 4. I really haven't even got to what I consider the best parts of the story yet IMHO, so I"ll get back to you in about 50 to 60 pages. ;)

It's a Grizzly Bear battling Zombies. Do you need to know more?

#3 mainly for Vampire Phantasm. I think my art is sloowllly improving, I love most of my characters, I just hate my writing sometimes and the fact that I can never make up my mind on the storyline. It gets on my nerves and many of my reader's nerves. XP

Hmm....maybe 3 and a half sometimes. >.>

ussually between 4 and 5, which probably sounds pretty stuck up. i know there's people that have this down a lot better then i do but God, i just enjoy it so much! i'm my own biggest fan! haha! i can only hope that some of my readers get the same enthusiasm from reading it as i do making it.

I'd say I rate it about a 3.5 based on your scale. While I'm generally satisfied with the artwork, I still think there are areas I need to improve in. Still, I'm a pretty big fan of my own comic. I get myself excited to draw something while I'm still in the writing stage so that I'm less disappointed when I actually get to drawing it. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not disappointed with the art itself! I just get dragged down by the amount of details that I want in the comic versus the amount of details I have the patience to do.)

For example, there are a lot of crabs that will be showing up in Timothy Green in the next two weeks. When I was writing them, and even doing some character designs, I got so excited. Now I'm developing a love-hate relationship with them because I thought it would be a great idea to have an army of tiny, cute crabs. It's somewhat mind-numbing.

But I digress.
If I didn't enjoy my comic, I wouldn't be drawing it in the first place.

I'd give my comic a solid 3. I still feel like a huge amateur. But looking at my first comic which I posted back in November and the comic I posted today, I am making great strides. Also my comic is just weird, the crap I come up with even amazes me sometimes. I honesty start most my comics with PG humor then my childish low brow humor over powers me.

I give my comic a 4. Its because of a few things.

1) When I was making the script of MAG-ISA, I was in a mind state in which I cannot explain. I was just motivated to work on it even if its 3 in the morning. And I knew in my gut that its somehow gonna be a bigger "hit" than Brood Knight. Because its got more thought put into it as compared to my past comics. And because on a technical level, it is the better-drawn comic compared to the ones I did in the past.

2) More because of reader reaction. Some of my readers say that MAG-ISA is a unique comic. But I dont know about that. IMO, there's nothing original these days.
Also its because it was voted in 7 DIFFERENT CATEGORIES in the 2008 DD awards. It didn't win anything though but it became a finalist in best political and best spiritual. I wasn't expecting it to fare that well. :)

NOW UPDATING!!!

Hmm, I love my comic, but I know it's not the best thing out there. So, I would probably have to rate Living With Insanity a 4.5 because while it may not be the best comic out there, it's a lot better than some of the stuff that's out there.

Sometimes I go to 5.
But I'm pretty solidly at 4.

I'm going with a four, since the wording describes being self content with a work. I don't think my webcomic will be some success though, it's too niche.

"You tell yourself to just
enjoy the process," he added. "That whether you succeed or fail, win or
lose, it will be fine. You pretend to be Zen. You adopt detachment, and
ironic humor, while secretly praying for a miracle."

I really like my comics when they are in notebook form because then most of them have an ending but when I actually draw the comics I end up hating them and not working on them. For that I put them in the 2 - 3 range. Still, I am very pleased with my progress.

I suspect readers' opinions of Shades will differ widely. Any readers expecting a straightforward super hero story with lots of flying and fisticuffs are probably going to be put off by some of the character-driven episodes. I suspect they would rate it as a 2. Unless they really like great artwork (I'm not the artist!) in which case they might be more generous (3 - 3.5?)

Personally, I'd rate it between a 4 and a 5, not just because I'm biased but because ... well, I've deliberately tried to put in all the things I like about comics and leave out all the things I don't! Hey, it's a comic written especially for me. How could I not like it!

3.5.
While I know I'm improving, I'm really proud of what I've been able to accomplish thus far. My original thought was to just rate it a 5! lol! But then I realized how stuck-up that would seem...

4. The better drawn chapters anyway. Realistically probably a little lower, but according to other threads underselling yourself hurts your book. So yeah, it's four :P

And the script I wrote recently? Gonna try to make it FIVE! :)

Three. I keep finding ways to make it better and as long as I can do that it will forever be a three. The learning curve is steep and I like to keep challenging myself.

I'd say I'm sitting at a solid three, and that's generous to myself because I'm always my hardest critic.

I have many things that I could improve on, but I'm proud of myself so far because I've been forcing myself to draw things that I have lots of trouble with (hands and perspectives, specifically XD). And I think I'm improving in both areas.

As for writing, the story's just beginning, but I have so many things up my sleeve. :D

Zaymac, I wrote that before getting featured!
Also, I the question was what do I think of my own comic.
I think my comic is fantastic, its the best comic I can make and it has all the stuff I would like to see in a comic. It is like someone sat down and tried to make a comic that would 100% appeal to me, because effectively that is what happened!
If I didn't 100% like it, I would do it differently.
Now if the question was how much do other people like it, I would give you a more mixed review, but in terms of my opinion, it is exactly the sort of thing I would like to read and therefore warrants a 5.
I am not assuming everyone who reads it would give it a 5, but this is the score I would give it.

As Ryu said, he was going to give himself a 5 but thought that would sound stuck up.
I would assume everyone loves there own comic and you are all jsut saying 3 to avoid seeming arrogant. Are you really trying to claim you dont love your creations that much? Come off it! YOu all think your comics are brilliant! And rightly so!
I do not think declaring my own love for my creation is arrogant, and I am not going to fib, so I stand by my 5!

I think it's a frame of mind thing- as usedbooks pointed out earlier, the "scale" I devised was based more on a critical/ comparative perspective than a pure emotional attachment one.

I think some people's brains work differently- while I love my comic, and love workin' on it more than pretty much anything else in the world, I can help but constantly evaluate and analyse it. I'm constantly finding things that could be better, and tryin' to make it such. I feel like if I ever got completely happy with it, and stopped findin' stuff wrong with it, I'd stop improving.

I am an arrogant bastard, mind you- it's just tempered with an intense self-criticism!

Threads like these are why im starting to dislike this forum. "How much do you like your comic/comic characters/how much do you draw/fanboy over your character/everything?" kind of gets old after awhile. lets talk about actual comics, please.

I don't even know if my comics are good or bad.

I think what I really love about my comics is the potential of the story before I draw it, so that would be a 5.

The actual aftermath of the comic pages I'd give it more of a realistic 3.

Wait, they still make real comics? I haven't seen one in SOOOooo long.

-----------
I'd rate my comic a 4. If I could get the art and coloring to be more professional I would thinks it's a 5 but my art can at times even make it a 3 when I screw up. God I'm glad I'm still improving. One day maybe I won't sink to 3 at least :P
