It's a popular word nowadays, right? "That's so random." "Dude, you're being so random." And if you've hung around here for a while, you see the word pop up in the title of... random comics. So, just how many comics on Drunk Duck have the word "random" in the title?
Answer: 68.
Does that seem a bit much to anybody else? I counted variations like "randomness" and "randomnity". Comics that used it multiple times (like "Random Randomness" and "The Random Comic of Randomness") only counted once. I didn't count Black Kitty's delightful "Random Thoughts" because it predates all these guys and is finished. Roughly half of these comics are sprite comics, if you wondered.
What kinds of creative variations of the word "random" have we come up with for titles? Here's the list:
Ye Old Random Logic
Violent Acts of Randomness
Utterly Random
Tsubasa Randomness
Total Random Stuff
Total Random
The Sword is Stuck in Random
the semi random comic
The random Sonic comic
The Random Comic of Randomness
The random comic of a guy with too much time

Cute Random Pink Marshmellows
Ctrl Random
Complete and utter RANDOMNESS
Comics of Randomness
Comic of Randomness
Collab of randomness
About Sonic Randomnity

A Place called random
A Dynasty of Random Megaman
Keep in mind that this list is already out of date. If you follow Einstein's Theory of Randomness, then a "random" comic is created about every 7.5 seconds. Be aware of that. They'll soon flood the update list.
I just thought maybe somebody would find this interesting. And maybe somebody else would be informed just before naming their comic with a word that has become trite and faddish.

don't say that.
soon, we'll be flooded with things like "The EXTREME comic of EXTREMENESS!"
or
"EXTREME cheese world!"
or some such nonsense.

Random Idiocy
DUDE! you mispelt my comic! It's Random Idiocity. Geddit right. Also lemme justify just why I put in the word random.
I put it in because I wanted to create a comic with no limits, where I can put in whatever the hell I want. I dunno about you but Conservative Idiocity or Predictable Idiocity doesn't exactly fit the bill does it?
Also my comic isn't a sprite or something half assed. I actually take pride in it.
Apart from that I've had this comic on blogger since Febuary under the same name. If I recall correctly, the word random wasn't that big a fad back then.
Also I don't go around using the word random in every sentence.
So no, I'm not putting the word random in to jump on some bandwagon.

From the New Heritage American Dictionary:
ran·dom -- adj.
1. Having no specific pattern, purpose, or objective: random movements. See "chance".
2. Mathematics & Statistics. Of or relating to a type of circumstance or event that is described by a probability distribution.
3. Of or relating to an event in which all outcomes are equally likely, as in the testing of a blood sample for the presence of a substance.
[From at random, by chance, at great speed, from Middle English randon, speed, violence, from Old French, from randir, to run, of Germanic origin.]
All comics with the word "random" in their titles MUST fit under this definition. If we find any that don't fit, there will be lashings.

The huge quantity of supposedly "random" comics annoys me to no end. The word is so over used. Kids these days seem to think all they have to do is throw in a monkey or pie and suddenly the comic is CUH-RAZY RANDOM.

I agree with Stardusty. It's like you put the word random in the title and it's suposted to give the comic this air of wackyness, when most of the time these comics arn't "random" at all. And seeing the word so often is just really anoying. It doesn't mean anything. It's just this empty adjective.

I do agree that this word is trite and just another fad that will go away like the rest of them. Most of the comics with "random" in the title are jumping on the bandwagon and aren't quality comics. I usually glance over anything that has "Random" in it.
I used to have a comic called Random Oddities. It never saw the light of the internet, though. The name didn't even fit, which is most of the comics-listed-aboves' problem. A lot of these could be renamed into something a lot less trendy and 13-year-old-spur-of-the-moment sounding.

What if you threw a monkey in a pie?
or a monkey in a pie at another monkey?
And what if said monkey in said pie that was thrown at other said monkey both collapsed and formed a marijauna smoking walrus that had a tattoo of George Bush being eaten by concrete salamanders on the moon on his back?
Now THAT would be random! Perhaps someone should teach all these kids what random REALLY means?

And then as he started to quote the saint crispen day speech, we zoom out and the whole thing has taken place inside an old man's snowglobe, and he says "excelsior" and falls down dead, only to rise up as a zombie and snowboard on a tobogan down the forehead of a bald 5 and 1/5 eye'd giant.

People should at least switch it up a little. Or make Random fit into the title in a clever fasion.

I can see where you're all coming from. However I think it's assholic to judge a comic solely by it's name and not it's content. It's shallow and unfair.
It's like saying everyone named John's a prick. Wait I'll make an exception for that. All Johns really are pricks

Judging by title can be fair, I don't think I've ever seen something with a name like "RANDOM CHAOS ADVENTURE HEROS" that wasn't a terrible sprite comic full of hentai/gay/ass/toilet jokes and no plot.
Of course you will. All intelligent beings dream. Nobody knows why.
Also, tell random people they are awsome! it helps!

I'm not saying that everything with the word random's good, I'm saying that like everything else, it's a randomly mixed bag, there'd be good stuff and theres bad. I'm sure there's definately crappy random comics. On that note I'm sure that's there's a lot of crap that doesn't label itself random out there.
What I'm saying is that it's assholic and unfair to those of us who actually put effort in our comics to be discriminated against for having the word random in it.
Summing up, by discriminating against everything associated with some random thing, you're discrediting anything good that's included in it.
Note: just to piss you people off, I've put the word random in every sentence.

The real purpose of this thread was simply to bring to light the fact that we have an epidemic of comics with "random" in the title. And then in the future, when somebody decides to name their comic, they might change it up a little and not use the word "random". This isn't about judgement of the quality of these comics. However, I do suppose people are free to visit those comics and make any judgments they want.

Do you often need to take bathroom breaks in the 10 minutes you spend working on a comic?
You might want to get your prostrate checked out.
