How long will you stick to comics?

How long do you think you will stick to comics (including reading, writing or drawing comics)? Until old age? Or do you think there is a possibility that you will stop reading or drawing comics before you become old? Do you think age is one of the factors that some people quit reading and drawing comics?

My mom used to be an avid novel reader including a few manhua books (that's chinese manga fyi) when she was a teen. But now, she no longer reads any books (except recipe books) but she does enjoy watching live action series drama that are adapted from manhua. FYI, my mom's 60 years old.

I remembered reading a newspaper article in early 90's about the oldest manhua reader in my country. The oldest reader was an 82-year-old lady (not sure if she's still alive now) who is into kung fu action-packed manhuas that are popular amongst teenage boys. And she frequent the comic book shop only to read these books.

Do you think you would someday be in her shoes when you grow old?

Til death. I used to collect comics when I was younger, and then about three years ago I got back into comics more so than ever. I love the medium. I especially love how crappy the internet comics scene is. Its dreadful. Its almost as bad as juggalos or furries, and often times intersects with juggalo furries.

I don't really see myself growing out of comics anytime soon. I've read them since I was little, and I'm almost 30 and still reading them. In fact, I'd love to be that little old lady going to the comic store when I'm 90, haha. I think that's awesome. My parents are in their mid and late 60s and they still read books and comics (especially the ones I shove in their faces and force them to read : D).

I'm sure the reason a lot of people stop reading comics at a certain point in their lives is just that family and career take over and don't leave enough time for it. (Or, I guess, after a certain point, they just can't see the pages. o_O)

Why in the world would I ever want to stop reading comics!? I keep discovering new comics, and new ideas and techniques...Drawing comics or reading them, neither gets dull. Perhaps as I get older I'll grow out of some genres or books, like a lot of manga I used to read in my teens I find a little blah now I'm in my twenties. My love of comics hasn't diminished, far from it, it's simply broadened out from just manga and become more refined.

I'll stick to comics forever! X3 There is just so much out there and so many new comics being created every day as well as many many classics from the past. It'd be impossible to ever become bored of them... And even if I don't go for comics anymore there will always be my own artwork - I'm never going to abandon that. And hell, if I make a career out of it I'm not going to have much choice in the matter~ I either like it or get a job in Tescos. XD

I went off comics for awhile between the ages of 18 and 26 i guess, was too busy trying to be a rockstar! I just couldn't find any title or comic that i wanted to read. I remember going into Forbidden Planet in Dublin and spending an hour just looking for ONE comic i would be interested in and i couldn't find one.

However got back into them a few years ago (yay i'm 30 this year!) and get about ten to fifteen titles a month as well as reading loads online.

With regard to writing/drawing. i'll probably always write but not sure how long i will have the patience for art. I can't see me physically able to draw when i am old.

So who knows?

Aha! Yes indeed! When I have children they're going to have the same impeccable taste in literature as I do. I even try to encourage my little brothers to draw and write stories~ When I helped out with an art competition at the last Midlands Expo seeing all the young children's manga drawings really chocked me up - they were inspired by comics to create their own pictures...! It just warmed my heart~ I'm hopelessly maternal but still... it was just like seeing the first buds of a comic fan blooming~ XD I just wanted to yell at them to keep at it - it's such a good thing to get a child into (as long as you keep the comics age-appropriate ^^; ). I'd rather my kids were spending money on comics than drugs or something...! D:

I think if I had tried to read comics in the 90's I would have never read any comics ever again. Those were the days of Liefeld and guys who didn't know proper anatomy if it hit them in the face. Which happened a lot in those comics. They were all about being EXTREME. And 99% of them sucked. And that's why the industry crashed.

ANYway I got into manga instead, but now I'm into American comics more than manga and I love what creators are doing these days. There's so many good series out there, although there still is a good amount of crap coming out of the main 2 publishers. Image and Dark Horse publish better comics.

I don't think I'll ever become disinterested in comics. I plan to try to get into the industry later in life, and see if I can make my mark and create some good stories, although I know the industry these days isn't easy to gain access to.

So yeah, I plan to read these things until my death, which will hopefully be a long time from now.

EDIT- I think the only thing that would stop me from reading comic entirely is if they all started being made through computer generated images. I really hate that stuff. It's alright in video games and I guess it's okay in movies, but 3D comics just completely turn me off of the form.

I don't like 3D comics, either. I don't really see them becoming the wave of the future anytime soon, or at least I hope. Then again, I'm not really fond of any 3D still-art, comics or no.. I think 3D looks good when it's moving, but when you still-frame it, it just ends up looking stiff and plasticky, even when it's done well. Maybe I'll change my mind some years down the line after it's evolved some more, but until then I'll stick to good ol' 2D comics.

Until I can get this stupid glue off my fingers!

Um, I don't think I'll draw anything after (if) I finish the one I'm making. Just trying my hand at something. I like doing it, but mostly I just really love my story and characters. I can't imagine ever coming up with something like this again.

Reading them... probably until my eyesight goes completely. I imagine comics are rather difficult to produce in braille. I don't think I've ever totally given up on any hobby. Sometimes I take breaks for a while, but I always return. If I ever have a family or something, I might have to give up buying mangas for a while -- or entice my kids into them and buy "for them."

I'm agree with the 3D thing, too. To be honest, I still prefer the old 2D Super NES type RPGs to realistic amazing graphics video games. I love good old fashioned animation to most of the computer generated stuff too.

I've been into comics for nearly my whole life... I don't think I could get out if I wanted to. And I don't want to.

hmm I feel like in a few years I'll probably discover something new. it's just how I am. Last year I was all about the golden age of hollywood. now I'm not really into that stuff anymore.
I go into lots of phases. Right now I'm in an anime phase, but it'll probably fade after time.
when I was younger I always wanted to be a novelist. even up until last year! when I'm older I'll probably pick that up again. ours is a spencer tracy/katherine hepburn relationship.
hopefully I'll stick to comics for a while though!

I can't imagine not doing my comics anymore. Now that I have an update schedule, I have a false sense of obligation to my readers. I can't just leave them out in the cold now, can I?
It's a comic!

I can't imagine myself ever getting out of comics.

My only problem is being able to buy them. Between work, school, and no decent comic shops within a 20 mile radius. I have trouble keeping up with some of my favorite Titles. Sometimes I have to go on Wikipedia just to catch up on what happened in Amazing Spider-man. My problem 9s simply getting my hands on the comics... and Uh, having money to buy them, subscriptions are costly when you're tight on cash.

Amazon.com is a great way to get graphic novels cheap. That's how I keep up with my comics. For example Civil War was $15 on Amazon. That and another $10 book, and I got free shipping. It's great.
