So you see a player who seems confused about more than he should. He's obviously new as he's asking questions you remember asking when you first started. What do you do with that new player?
1) Tell him to "STFU NOOB!" and tell him to leave the game 'cuz he can't hack it?
2) Give him improper advice? (Tell him to go to an area that's obviously populated by aggressive monsters too high level for him to handle.)
3) Call him names, harass him, and making him feel so low that he'll finally quit?
4) (if possible) Lure him to a PvP area and kill him repeatedly while performing #3?
5) Help him powerlevel his character by taking him to places he couldn't go by himself?
6) Give him money and items and hope he can figure it all out himself?
7) Give him nothing but advice, answer all his questions if you can and help him only when he seems to really need it?
I know a lot of these may not be possible to do, but I'm getting these options from my experiences from old MMOs like Everquest and Ultima Online.
Shortly before getting out of WoW (nothing bad about the game itself, but my connection was constantly at 1400) I saw quite a few players on the Elune server doing a lot of this to new players. Made me wonder what made the community unfriendly.
While playing Anarchy Online I go with #6 since doing so will help new players become better as they learn the game (it's got quite a steep learning curve and its complicated looking screens can scare off new players before they've had the chance to try things out)
Yeah, even though I could play the game for free (explore all of Rubi Ka and have a max level of 200) I've got a paying account. :)

How do you like to treat new players you meet in the MMORPGs you play?

I would usually help them do some power levelling, since it was basically an excuse to show off all my fancy moves at level 32 to someone who might actually be impressed. Depending on how whiny they were I might jsut kick them from my group and leave them to fend for themselves, though...

In the dog-eat-dog world of MMORPG (Mighty-Morphin' Overworld of Really Punkass Game), the thing you must realize is that in order to be the best, other people must be worse than you. What better way to do this than to mislead poor noobies to udder misery?
Whenever I see a loathsome noobie, I tell them to go to the highest mountain in the game. When they reach the summit, they will find that nothing is there but snow and blizzard in the cold harsh air. I can hear their anguish as I pwn (by the way, the word "pwn" is internet language for "own" just in case you didn't know; you HAVE to use this word while you're on the internet or else you'll like a nooblet) crepes in the wilderness.
Another tactic I use is the old check-your-manual trick. Some noobie-doobie comes up to me and asks how to utilize the Runes of Pentagonal Wisdom and Chartreuse, and I tell them to look it up on page 17 of the manual. The trick: there's only 16 pages in the manual. The poor little noobie will look in horror and confusion never being able to figure out how to use the Runes of Pentathlon and Something.
Yep, it's pretty cool doing those things, because not only do you shoo away the vile noobs, but you also get to play the game is peaceful and udder solidarity.
I hope this answered your question.

Back when I played Flyff, I would just kinda ignore them...
Although one time someone added me so they could continually ask me questions. I meant to deny it's request, but I pressed the wrong button. D: I was bothered by it for minutes!
But I always try to just not talk to anyone in MMORPGS. I mean, ew, talking to people? Disgusting.

I think helping other players is an activity best suited for hardcore players who care about the community enough to want to shape it to their liking and all that crap. So when it comes to new players the most I've ever given is simple conversation, usualy more technical, rarely in game.
Yeah that's glitched, don't try anymore. You'll find that here. You'll get that there. This button does this. Click it twice. You'll do fine as long as you spend more time playing than swearing at other players about their playing. I'm going to go now. No, I will not slow down.

I'll answer any question to the best of my knowledge. I will not however, reply to people begging for money.
God needed the Devil, the Beatles needed the Rolling Stones, Hakoshen needs me.
I'm the enemy he requires to define him.
Soon or later, he'll bring me back to life again for another epic encounter of shouting about power levels and grimacing.

I don't mind answering questions about the game.
What I do have a problem with is the beggars (oh boo hoo, you're greedy, scamming, and/or lazy) that infest the new players and the ones who want to be hand held everywhere and have things done for them. I'm all for giving an exact and comprehensive explanation, but to insist I walk some crybaby somewhere I don't need to be over the course of 15 mins while they auto-follow me, well, they're going on /ignore. I see no reason to encourage someone who isn't willing to learn, listen, or do what it takes. I don't need to be outright mean, but I'm not their mother.

Depends on if said new player is a cute chick (IRL).
Also depends on if I'm an orc and said new player is an elf of some sort. Or someone of an alignment/allegiance opposite to mine. Role-playing is fun when you can use it as a legit excuse to harass noobs.

If people need help in games I always help out. Exactly like I do here. :)
The more people who know what to do and do it right the less chance they'll annoy you or others and the more chance it'll make things better for everyone.
As for the dicks who act like arseholes- they're middling level minds with middling level ability, just like the people who act that way here.
Sad and easily dealt with.

I usually don't bother them unless they actually speak to me. Then I would usually just make a quick answer and carry on to what I was doing.

varies on how he/she greets me if its a good old "hello could you help me with something" or if its a "GOLD!! PLZ I NEE SO BAD!!!!!! " if they seem like they have common sense I have no problem being helpfull if they're morons I'd rather not.
if I was a teapot I think I'd be orange.

If someone is lost and whatnot, I usually help them out and have them follow me to their destination. Sometimes I give them some vendor trash so they can sell it for coin, and talk with them a bit/answer any questions they may have. I try to be kind and helpful so that others may do the same for me in return. Alas, those kind of people are hard to come by in MMOs. Especially WoW, which is why I don't play it anymore. No fun playing with assholes. Wait, that sounded dirty... ;)

7) Give him nothing but advice, answer all his questions if you can and help him only when he seems to really need it?
That one, I don't give out money because that just encourages laziness and god knows on WoW there's enough lazy people. I might help them with a group quest, but if it's a quest they could do if they levelled I give them advice on where they could get the levels and make money for them selves.
I sometimes give an instance run if I'm feeling really generous but not when people beg for one constantly. Mostly I'm just playing with my boy friend and we pretty much just share everything, he needs gold I give him a little, he gives it back when I need it etc.
I mean I had someone who was level 1 who had left the starting area and was begging for money so they could buy the white armor from the vendor so they could level faster apprently. When if they stayed where they were and did the quests they'd get better gear, money AND xp.
Sometimes people are just silly.
