I really can't tell just yet...I get comments on the story and the art...I think my readers might be waiting to see what happens. Kinda like watchin' the person as they walk towards the sliding glass door and you know, at that split second before it happens, that they have know idea it's closed.

My comic (Frank Baron, NSO) is still early in its run, so most of my thoughts on what people think of it are speculative and not informed by comments of readers (you're all welcome to go read it and make some :)). My guess is that people read it in the first place because of the art (and I've heard as much from a few people). The art style I use for it is rather bizarre looking, so I think that's what catches people's eye initially. Hopefully they stick around because they like the writing and story (which isn't all that developed yet, but will be soon enough).

Wow I really don't know anymore. I used to think it was for the story. But working more and more on new styles and the emails I got before I went offline were that people were reading more for the art. I just don't know.

I know my story will be lost on a lot of the younger readers when it gets to the end. But there's not anything in this series that won't hit you somewhere, somehow. It's just a vast work. So there's hope.

I guess I'm an odd case since I'm all restarted and that jazz.

I'm not sure, I'm gonna guess people read my comic for the artwork since many of them tell me they're lost storywise. I keep trying to improve and clarify on the storyline, but it's difficult to fix when I'm not sure what's so confuseing x_x

I know a few people who read it consistently, of those people, they pay attention most to the story and graphical consistency. If they see something wrong, they'll tell me about it. A good example is the owner of Drshnaps.com, who reads my comics, and he'll ask me "what's up with this?" or "this is good, but you could make x better by doing y."

As far as story goes, I try my best to fill up any plot holes, explain any quirks that make you scratch your head, that stuff. I usually don't get complaints about it.

I'm still new on the DD "block" but most of the comments have been on the art of Due East but some have complimented the story, which of course, gives me warm fuzzies inside. :) After all, the comic wouldn't make any sense without the story.

I can't tell because I don't really have any readers. I hope that they will laugh a little after reading my stuff.

I feel that a lot of times they're reading my comic for the art but I've found that whenever I do a page with a more toned-down art style my readers tend to pay attention to the jokes.

But yeah, I'm just trying to keep people happy.

I think my readers read my comic because I commented on their comic and they do it out of gratitude. Or they are my friend and read because of the gun I have pointed to the back of their head. Works for me either way.

I doubt my readers read my comic for the art. I don't consider myself an artist really, more of a MS PAINT doodler who spends a lot of time.

My comic is all about a funny plot, but I try to make each strip as independent of eachother as much as possible. I feel that it is better to have a joke everyone, even people that don't read my comic, would get.

I don't know how they feel but I can guess they're thoughts...

70%: OH GOD NOT ANOTHER SPRITE COMIC!
10%: these are funny! I'm glad I didn't judge this just because it's a sprite comic!
15%: just because it's a sprite comic it automaticly sucks.
5%: these are pretty cool. could use improvement, but they're cool nonetheless.

so 20% actually like them and 80% hate them -_-

eh, either way I don't care... I'm in it for the fun.

That's pretty much what all sprite comics face. A lot of people hate it because when they think sprite comics, they think of a shitslop made by some 11 year old kid with down syndrome. Even with the good sprite comics, people ignore them because they fear they'll suck.

Also, you have to admit, the reason drawn comics get more respect is that the process is much more laborious and long than spriting. You have to work in many details like anatomy, proper shading, texture, all that stuff. That's why people who create by paper and pencil, as opposed to mouse and computer, get much more respect and credit.

I suppose the only proper way to do a sprite comic is by completely custom sprites. That or if your name is Brian Clevinger.

sadly the only custom sprite I've ever made was 'smoky' the smoke thingy in my avatar :\
