So, there are four main charecters in my comic. The hero, the hero's girlfriend, and his two best friends. The hero is based off of my cousin, who I simply adore, and one of the hero's best friends, basicly his lancer, is based off of myself. But I'm having trouble keeping it clear (In my head-I don't plan on starting the comic for three or four years, but I'm planning everything out now)that the hero is the main charecter, and his girlfriend and the other friend are being shunted to the side. Its really wierd to explain since for now I'm the only one who knows anything about it and even I can tell I'm demoting them to extras. Any suggestions?

I'm writing for 5-7 main characters at times depending on my stories. Others may have different feedback but here's what I do.

1st you KNOW each main character. I personally like knowing a lot of their personality and how they grew up. Give each of them clear goals, quirks, etc. Know why they stay together and how they feel and interact with each other.

I have 3 FOCUS characters but I will write "episodes" focusing on the other characters and give them their own story arcs that travel along the main story and take over at times.

After a while you'll have to start reminding yourself who your MAIN characters are and start making more stories for them as you focus on side characters too much. It's a vicious balance XD
