Out of complete curiosity what kind of hits do you guys get? I’ve been staring at those red-coloured bars on the stats page and so far they lack any tangible meaning for me.
On my main comic I seem to get around 200 each time I upload a page, I’m approaching 7000 views and apparently I’m #385 overall.
Now is that good? Bad? Do I draw some kind of meaning from it as that rating system seems totally worthless because everyone just leaves 5s? I get the feeling that if anybody’s reading they’re lurkers and the only feedback I get from them is their shadow on the stats page.
(I hope I’m posting in the right place)

Keep in mind DD's hits are NOT counting unique people, they're counting pageloads. When people talk about audience, they generally want to talk about uniques because it describes the number of different individuals who have accessed the page. So- since DD's system only describes hits (not uniques)- 200 could either be 200 people reading one page, 100 people reading 2 pages, etc. You would need a better tracker to get more accurate info.
I'd say 200 *uniques* is pretty average. There's a range of 100-400 (daily visits) that quite a lot of comcis fall into. It's not enough to 'get' you anything (you generally need to be up higher to make anything off merch or ads) but it means there is a good level of interest and you have a decent core of followers. Because DD's hits aren't uniques though, I'd say you have a smaller number of individual visitors than it first appears. Maybe a quarter?

Oh, that’s very interesting. I’m doing it mainly for fun, improve art style, talk to people ect, ect. I doubt I could make money but it’s just nice to know people like what you do.

looked at your comics and they both look pretty new to me. (To me its new if its got less than 100 pages). So your hits are fine. There's nothing wrong with that.

DD does count uniques, but doesn't display them in the stats.
Just to clarify that. :)

There are allot of experienced comic artist here that use counters that count unique hits, what hours of the day they log in, what countrie your readers are from, etc.
Maybe someone can provide a link for one of those?

Same here da_kasha, I draw my comic for those reasons as well. Though I do like to swing by my stats page and see how it's doing, it's interesting to see how many people read it. I was a featured comic one day and my stats jumped from 300 to 6,000. Then for about a week I was in the top ten on the browsing page and I continued to get about 2,500 hits a day. It was pretty cool.
Once in a blue moon my stats jump up 1,000 hits or so, and I'm not sure why. I think I asked ozone how this happened and he said the comic was probably mentioned on a blog or something. Which is also cool.
I notice the more faithful I am to my update schedule, the more people will read it. There was a period of time last year where I didn't update much and I was only getting about 100 hits a day. Then when I started updating again, my hits jumped up significantly.

DD does count uniques, but doesn't display them in the stats.
Is there a way they could possibly show these uniques on the stats page? That would be a nice feature. :)

lastcallIt's a good suggestion. DD isn't getting any updates any time soon though unfortunately, and if we do get an updated it'll probably be something flashy rather than a small improvement like that. :(

I only got 2,000 when I was featured :(

Recognition is like masturbation only ultimately less satisfying.
I like to think that the few people who enjoy my comic are more intelligent than the masses, and therefore I have a 'select' readership...
hang on, I just remembered... WHO THE FUCK CARES! That's right

Be grateful for what you have. ;)
Do a photo comic and your average readership will be an eighth of what you're currently getting.
Promotion, personality and perserverance. And don't do a photo comic illustrated with action figures. Don't even bother looking at one. I mean photos? Detailed sets? Tons of Photoshop effects? Stick figures drawn on a napkin. lol!

Reply of massiveness:

That sounds a bit extreme - and has a possibility of making you over-paranoid - but thanks.
Schoolmunkee said it was counting pageloads so that might be people reading it for the first time… I have no idea. And I agree with the last part. I might be a webcomic newbie but my hits were pretty stable until the time I vanished for a week and they’ve only just started recovering. I was partly hoping that I could use the stats page to divine how many lurkers I’ve got…
I read your web comic :D… but I’m afraid I didn’t quite get it :(
I remember I read irregular webcomic though which was more my thing. And I kinda feel a bit sad to admit I found most of the jokes funny.

Since day 1 of my comic, I've been getting an average of 100 views daily. I've gotten less, I've gotten as much as 500 so far, but I seem to be connecting to readers, as I have a nice amount of people who favorited my comic.
Real life prevents me from putting as much work as I would like to, and I tend to update near midnight, but yes, keeping updates organized will help with getting more views.

It takes awhile to build up readership, so I wouldn't pay much attention to stats right now.
The main thing is to continue producing quality work. That way when someone finds your comic they"ll continue to return.
I average 600 to 800 views on update days and about 300 every other day.
I also Mirror on my own site and Smackjeeves and I get about half of those stats daily.
I'm working on making my comic a Yaoi Sprite comic for my Smackjeeves mirror. That should get my pageviews up over there at least. :)

Compared to others here my stats are horrible; I'd rather not mention mine XD. But I do my comic because it's fun, not because of stats.

How many hits do I get? Never enough, never enough.
What do I do to increase my hits? Beg, borrow, steal, threaten...sometimes I pretend to cry so people will read it out of pity, that often works.
Whatever it takes! I will stoop as low as I have too to get those readers!
No plug is too shameless!

Damn, my hit count is painfully low compared to everyone else on here. I generally get around twenty or thirty when I upload a page. Fifty is a very good day, although once in a while I get around a hundred. That's something of a fluke though.
Page hits are overrated though. What's important is getting a large group of people who like the comic and are enthusiastic about checking back in on it week after week.
Then again, I don't have all that many of those either.

I get around 100-150 when I update.
The number seems to be growing with each update, but I'm sure thats got a lot to do with the increased number of pages online than my actual readership.

I started my comic for fun, and because my friends all said that if I didn't do one, they'd beat me up. X3 I still do it for fun, but I've found that seeing my pagecount increase has also become important to me. Not as important, mind you, but still something to work to improve. After all, I want as many people as possible to enjoy reading it, as I did in making it.

Oh, goodness. I thought I did terribly hits wise, but apparently I'm pretty average.
My hits per day are, in short, all over the place. The most I've ever gotten was 920. Lately I get about 300 views daily, 500 on update days, though once in a while it spikes up to 700 or 800. I used to take them seriously (I had a heart attack of joy when it hit 200 for the first time, lol) but now I kinda wish I knew who my individual readers are or at least how many there are.
I'd be lying if I said viewers didn't matter to me. I do my comic for fun but if I think no one's reading it I start questioning why I put in so much effort. Back on Deviantart/various forums, I ran into that problem all the time but now that I can see people are actually reading it, I'm much more motivated. xP

my hits are about average for what everyone here is saying. my average is 150 a day. i also update everyday, so some days i'm getting 400 hits and others like 80.
i try not to worry about my stats too much, but i admit that i do. i often wonder if i had colored my comic if that would get me more readers....but then i'm left with the question: "what freaking color is the fartmutant? he's not made out of farts, so he's not brown. and he's a reanimated monster made up of flesh, bone, and metal....so what color IS he?" and THAT question is too hard to answer.
