They seemed rather one-sided and not very funny... until Batman showed up. Then they got good, because suddenly Marvel wasn't so perfect.

They say in comedy, timing is everything. ;)
You need to understand that when hey first came out (2005) Marvel was the only company doing decent superhero films. Then Superman Returns came out and bit the big one. That's why it's sort of one-sided.
Then Batman BEGINS came out and was awesome and Spider-man 3 sucked and it sorta leveled everything off again. ;)
