Comic Talk, Tips and Tricks
Help! My passion is dying!

I used to be very enthusiastic when it comes to making comics but recently, my passion for comics is dying. I don't know if it's lack of motivation or stress from people unsupportive of comics but anyway this is very serious. What should I do to get rid of this pain-in-the-ass slump!?

Do not comic stuff for a bit. Take up some watercolor and paint landscapes, draw from life. Do anything artwise BUT comics.
I always find that's good.
Or I relax, get some tea and talk with a few comic minded friends. Bounce ideas, talk about other folks comics, and just get excited again.

Force yourself to draw more? For me, when I'm forcing myself to draw, and motivation will come in slowly. Sometimes, it takes many hours to obtain that kind of motivation.
But drawing comics doesn't mean you are forced to draw for others. Rather to make yourself enjoy drawing it.

For me the fun of comic creating is playing with the feelings of the readers. It's a power trip.

First, you bake fresh cookies(preferably chocolate chip. Then, you draw a comic, and you tell yourself that you can't have a cookie unless you finish a comic. And remember, one comic only deserves one cookie.
But back in reality... I just doodle and sketch to get me back in the flow of drawing after a break like a vaction. I just sketch characters I make up on the spot. Try looking at other people's comics for ideas and inpiration. Hell, look anywhere (books, movies, anything!) for inspiration.

Thanks everyone. All of your suggestions sound good (except for the eating children's souls part because they aren't so tasty) and I'll try all of them. Phear, it's a coincidence you mentioned cookies because I've just baked a big batch of 'em. :D

There, after casting some "Buddhist magic" and watching my favorite films, my groove is back! 8)

For me doing my comic is my own reward. If you've read my author's comments enough you'd know that I make BGH for my own amusement, and that's what keeps me going.
That and I love american superhero comics, so i'm never short on inspiration. but that's more of a writing thing...
Sometimes though when I'm feeling a little artistically down, like I feel that my art isn't worth the paper it's inked on, I like to watch high-quality animated films or TV shows. Watching old-Disney movies, and of course Batman: The animated series or Justice League DVD's, really motivates me to do better and keep at it.

Again, thank you all for your helpful comments. Well, maybe except for marine's viagra. It's too expensive in the Philippines. I could also go with Rounko's idea but I'm trying to lose weight. Hehehe.
You guys will immediately understand what I've been through once you read the words below.
"Get a real job!"
"There's no money in comics."
Familiar?

Pfft, what do PEOPLE know? they are both annoying and disheartening the words "Cram it" and "bite me" work when people give you that sort of thing.
And yeah, Rounko's idea wont help you lose wait, he is a prime example. must be like... 14/15 stone?

Of course you will. All intelligent beings dream. Nobody knows why.
Also, tell random people they are awsome! it helps!

Actually, you look good, dude. At least you look thinner than me.
Mimarin: Yeah, screw them. I can name a lot of comic artists I know who are earning good money. It's just that they keep on pressuring. I almost snapped!

maybe diet coke and veggy pizza???
I've got a draw in my room full of ideas and sketches that i've been filling for 6 years, if i ever run out of ideas i can go back and look at hundreds of others i've never had a chance to use. (it's also right next to my window so if my house is on fire my life won't be destroyed) :D

Usually when my enthusiasm slumps I find something else to do for a little while so I am not overwhelmed by what I was so into before. Usually I begin to miss it and I come back full excitement!

well, I've never got demotivated as I know I'm good and nothing can change that. When ever I dont feel like doing a comic, I just don't do it. Basically, I just do what I wanna do when I wanna do it. There's no point trying to force a comic out when you don't wanna do it. It's like trying to take a leak with an empty bladder.
Usually after a while the want/need to do a comic returns and I just get back to it.
