WARNING I'm fanboying this one up. they could prolly label it "halo: spartan117 takes his dog for a walk" and i'd pre-order the legendary edition./WARNING

I have release in 45 minutes.

In about 3 hours i'll comeback and fan-boy all over this thread.

In all honesty tho, i played the multi-player beta, and while it didn't "change everything" for FPS, it definitely changed the series. It's hard to change an entire genre, when futuristic cyborg gun action pretty much died out for it's competitors.

but as far as it's sub-genre, i'm hoping this will be another game changer.

Halo series is completely overhyped. All it is, is a decent FPS that's all. What makes this newest Halo FPS worth anyone's time?

FIGHT current chapter: Filling In The Gaps
FIGHT_2 current chapter: Light Years of Gold

what separates Halo from others is the perfectly smooth controls and epic sci fi storyline. That and the best FPs multiplayer anywhere (imo, not a COD fan)
Okay story wise the Bioshock games are stronger but the action is epic.

What makes it worth peoples time? seriously dumb question, what makes any hugely popular series newest installment worth peoples time? more of the same and hopefully more. Surely there are games series that you eagerly await the new on of and will buy as soon as it comes out.

There is no denying they are seriously hyped but when a game sells the amounts that the halo games have it is hardly surprising. That said I am kind of glad they (bungie)are moving on to pastures new. no doubt microsoft will milk the franchise dry though.

Still at least you didn't reply with "Haloz izzz sht lolz killzone 4 eva!!!!!!"

I enjoyed the first Halo. I've never been convinced that it "re-invented" the FPS genre (as is often claimed) but it did breathe new life into it. It showed just how much fun the genre can be when everything from graphics to story to gameplay are all equally polished and working together perfectly.

Once the game became a multi-player phenomenon, however, I felt the single player aspects of the game were allowed to stagnate. Halo 2 and Halo 3 were just "more of the same", and I've never had any interest in the spin-offs at all. Nope - not even Halo: Reach, I'm afraid!

So having played it... single player is good but lacking somehow. the enemy AI is great as usual.

Online is very good although I keep getting my ass whooped.

Pretty much. What Halo did for the FPS genre was to prove that it could be popular in consoles. Before that all the big FPS titles were being exclusively released for PCs, since people believed that you can't enjoy a FPS without a mouse.

Yes, yes, Halo wasn't the first good console shooter but it was one of the first "blockbuster" shooter in the console market.

I first experienced Halo when it came out on PC, cause I used to be a firmly rooted PC player. However when I got the 360 as a gift, I ended up buying Halo 1 and 2 in a bundle pack and didn't regret that. I bought Halo 3 when it came out cause, like many others, I wanted to finish the fight.

I haven't bought any of the Halo spin offs, though.
Those were my two cents.

I'm a few weeks late, however, i had some business to attend to.

Now, it did not redefine it's own genre. but made game play different from teh previous installments. Mostly with the addition of some sort of super power (running jet pack sheild charge, etc) it definitly makes online play more hard.

the story line is the first i've enjoyed since the original halo. I was actually involved in the story line. i was a part of it. And i felt for the character all the way through the end.

I ENJOYED TEH GAEMZ, LULZ.

Having played all of the Halo games, this is the first one since Halo: Combat Evolved that I actually enjoyed. Sure I played them all and liked them more or less, but I actually enjoyed Reach. It's the first of the Halo games that seems to actually tell a story and tell it well.

Granted, if you don't like Halo gameplay (because it IS largely the same, only with some new features) then you're not going to like it now. If you are a fan of Halo gameplay, this is the best one yet (and hopefully the last. Seriously.)
God needed the Devil, the Beatles needed the Rolling Stones, Hakoshen needs me.
I'm the enemy he requires to define him.
Soon or later, he'll bring me back to life again for another epic encounter of shouting about power levels and grimacing.

Almost definitely NOT the last one. The last by Bungie but Microsoft want to increase the output of Halo games.

Not an obvious recipe for success, new development team and increased output.

Go on Microsoft, milk that cow.
