Disappointing story? Little improvement over the beta? Lackluster graphics?
So far I'm not surprised. I'm still patiently assuming that kids will ruin Xbox Live matches by "glitching", and that weapons are grossly efficient for their power. :/
Who am I kidding, I'll probably buy it. I'm not Halo fan, I just need something to do, and quad-op does sound pretty damn appealing.

I'm not kidding myself. I've never played a Halo game. Probably never will. I'm looking to get that cool looking WipeOut wannabe title that just came out (just got Eternal Sonata).

I'll also probably get it, but thats later than sooner. Like I'd say next year or later for me. I'd rather have Grand Theft Auto 4, just seems like a better series to me.

Frankly I found Halo 2 disappointing. The reviews all raved about it largely, as I later discovered, because all the reviewers were so sold on the online multiplayer that they couldn't bring themselves to mark it down even though the solo campaign was short and offered very few improvements over the original game.
But, yeah, I shall buy Halo 3 anyway. Most shops seem to have some kind of deal on it already which (a) suggests to me that they're expecting word to get around quickly that this is kind of a disappointment and (b) is going to make it hard to resist, notwithstanding. Hell, I may even buy it this afternoon!

A friend got H3 for his XB360. Wow it rocks. The graphics are gorgeous. No texture popping issues like what happens in Gears of War sometimes. Gameplay is very smooth and lots of fun despite not being innovative like GoW. I was watching the replays (awesome feature) and being very impressed with the enemy AI.
He is commenting on how it's not as "fast" as a PC version. Yeah he should talk; we both got wiped out a total of 120 times just in mission 1.
I need to recommend this to another friend. She loved GoW and she should like this.

My only real concern right now is if it's worth the 60 dollars they're charging for it. I'm not made of money, and I'm trying to figure out if this is something I can wait for, or if it's worth picking up to enjoy lan matches and the quad-op (there is so little to do in the dorms besides Halo lan parties).

The replay value is immense but even I get tired of FPS games after 2 weeks. All in all, I don't think you can wrong with waiting or paying 60 shells.

Whoa... Okay, so you're not made of money. But if you were you'd still have to worry about the price tag. Giving up your arm and leg for a game isn't worth it. %)
I'm going to play the "wait and see" game for Halo 3 since I don't have any First Person Shooter games in my collection yet.

I'm not a huge fan of Halo, frankly, the game bores me. That's not to say it's not a good game, it's just that I'm not a fan of it. It's a great game by all means.
Also, The Sony Defense Force reviews Halo 3.
Much hilarity follows.
Believe.
Ahh yes "believe"¦ the new $10 million dollar marketing slogan for Halo 2.5 stolen shamelessly from a video game message board. They want us to believe Halo 2.5 has a good single player story, they want us to believe that the multiplayer doesn't pale in comparison to even the most generic of PC shooters, they want us to believe the graphics look like Halo 2 in HD because of 'the scope' and they want us to believe the much hyped 'Forge' is a sufficient replacement for a map editor.
Here is what you should believe:
What Halo 2 started with mediocrity, Halo 2.5 finishes. The story is a mess, full of plot holes and feels extremely cheesy. Even the game's laggy 4 player co-op doesn't help keep the single player campaign from being mediocre at best. All I can say is thank god the single player portion is very short as I'm not sure how much more sloppy writing I could endure.
Halo 2.5's multiplayer is a letdown as well. It's Halo 2 with a pseudo map editor. No dedicated servers, still pay to play online and only 16 players per match. Bungie should look at Resistance and Warhawk, both of which have dedicated servers, 40 players online, free to play online and are PS3 exclusive, to see how a multiplayer experience should be.
In conclusion, what was supposed to be the game of the year is looking to be yet another dud on the 360 in the same vein as Perfect Dark Zero, perhaps a bit worse. I would wait for a price drop or even avoid this title altogether. If you are looking to satisfy your FPS lust look no further than Haze and Unreal Tournament 3. With Haze's superior 4 player co-op and UT3's free online multiplayer and thousands of maps (thanks to Blu-ray and a real map editor) you can't go wrong on PS3 for your online shooter fix.
The SDF is the greatest faux fanboy site ever. The comments are hilarious.

If I buy it, its going to be solo only for me. I've no friends, and I lack online play. Considering Halo 2 was very shitty and substandard, no way I'm buying it without buying xbox live with it. So at best, I'm out a 100 bucks if I buy this thing. I'd like it sure, but I don't really care about playing with other people.
I'm willing to wait until next year. I'll always be a Counter Strike guy as far as multilayer is concerned, but eh.
I tell you what is looking nice though, Gears of War for 30 bucks. I'm guessing the drop will happen soon. Until then I'll be enjoying my 25$ trip into the realm of Oblivion just like one of the goofiest action movies ever: solo.
Sony Defense Force is now my favorite gaming website. If this is real sony fanboys, its hilarious and sad. If its actually for comedic purposes as it appears to be, then its hilarious and brilliant.

I caved and traded in a handful of games with my roommate to get it. I only lost a second copy of Melee, GTA: Liberty City Stories and some Darkstalkers thing. Basically crap I never played. So it basically got half a copy (since he put in some games) of Halo 3 for "free".
It's pretty fun on LAN, but the single player (while the best in the series so far) has some terrible final levels, and doesn't really do much to tie up all the lose ends. Although the twist ending you get for beating the last level on Legendary was pretty neat.
But by no means is this a 60 dollar game. I'd say wait, unless you can find games you don't want to lessen the price.
And SDF is pretty confusing. It may very well be there for comedic purposes, certainly looks that way. But the forums seem very legit, and so do a few news segments. Regardless it's some funny shit.

After having completed the story, I must say it was pretty fun. But the story was confusing and to me made no sense.
The multiplayer is good fun and I can see myself getting entertainment out of it for quite a while.
Its a good game, but its nowhere near the Game of the Decade as the cover puts it.

Which FPS that you've played would you pay $60 for?
Hm, it's not quite a FPS, but I felt satisfied with my purchase of Lost Planet. The story mode was bland, but long. It's the online play that got me hooked.
I seldom buy anything that fails to last fourty hours of overall game play for 60 bucks. It just seems like too much for too little, since I blast through games pretty fast. I'll usually trade in games or rent. But I will find titles that I must have, in which case I shell out 60 bones.
Like I said, Halo 3 is a pretty good game, but it was over so fast that I don't think I would have payed full price. I beat it in about four hours on co-op.

My wife and both of our younger brothers played some 4 player Vs. matches a few nights ago and had a blast.
Played a little of the co-op story mode with my brother-in-law on Heroic, and I'm liking it as well.

If you've played the second game you aren't missing much. Graphics are a little prettier than the previous game (although not as much as I would expect out of a 360 game) and the gameplay is near identical. I was really hoping for more out of the game. The BS excuse that the game doesn't work as well with more than 16 players also doesn't hold a lot of whater when just about every other game which uses the same formula tends to have bigger maps, more players, and more vehicles and somehow they manage larger scale multiplayer matches that are more fun than playing Halo online.

I played in the Halo 3 beta tests for the multiplayer and found it to be pretty meh. I found that Gears of War and Lost Planet were both a whole lot more fun in multiplayer. And Halo 2's campaign mode wasn't much fun, so I don't have a lot of hope for Halo 3.
I think the Orange Box will do me just fine once I finish Bioshock (and 5 games for the price of one is nothing to sneeze at!).
