Oh gods that's banal...
Nice rickroll in the fist one though. :)
I notice in the second vid the singer is wearing the metal outfit that appeared in the 1992 vid by George Michael. Much better song.

Yeah, forget this celeb performer.
Anyway, I found out who did the metal costume that first appeared in the George Michael vid: Thierry Mugler (as well as the rest of them in there). Although he was clearly inspired by the Japanese fantasy artist Hajime Sorayama .
...and jebus, doing a google image search for Thierry turns up a pic of him naked with a massively muscled body and a big dick... that'd make lefarce quite moist. ^__^
Anyway, THIS is the greatest song and vid of the century:

I'm not gay or anything.
Are you sure about that, because I think you should think again. (kidding) Sure, it may be one of the most popular songs of this generation, but the best, no. In my opinion its probably this:

Honestly I think generation needs to be defined a bit more. And I don't think Lady Gaga will work considering who even knows if she has any staying power at all. More then likely she'll be a 2-3 hit wonder and call it quits.

Im a Rocker kinda guy, Lady Gaga is cool, but somehow, those greying bands like Lynyrd skynyrd, Grand Funk railroad, Merciful fate still in my ipod but i do have Lady Gaga and britney spears and i do like Jonas brothers, but these days there are no longevity in them, even kids these days are turning back to the 70s era.
But these generation greatest song from 2000 til 2009 i say is Bon Jovi it's my life..... short anthem... but still kickin our eardrum... Kid still sing along when they hear it, it's addictive..
* i swear i am no one of those 100,000,00 millions fans..

I'm going to jump on board at this point and say that as much as I hate to admit it... Lady Gaga is possibly the voice of our new extra retarded generation... the internet has eaten away all of our brainliness

There's still good songs, they just have yet to be discovered by a mass audience.

excuse me for sounding cynical... but 98.3% of songs discovered and loved by a mass audience are absolute fucking rubbish. Why is this? Because the 'mass audience' you speak of are fucking stupid. for a real artist to be recognised by the masses is really something of a fluke. They need the radio and tv to tell them what is going to be cool next week.

I'm not going to guess at what the best song of our generation is since that is way to subjective. But these are both easily better then anything Lady Gaga has made

i'm so sick and tired of people talking about how music died in the seventies or the eighties. what is this based upon?
is it because bands like the pixies, nirvana, pearl jam, tool, radiohead, a tribe called quest, massive attack, the flaming lips, beck, the prodigy, aphex twin, daft punk, etc. all had NO positive influence on music at all, and NO great songs?
or because lady gaga is more popular?
who cares. take a chill pill and
JU-JU-JU-JU-JUST DAAANCE
YEAHH THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN 'BOUT

In my opinion, music, as an art form, is dying(or possibly already dead). Music that becomes popular now depends far more on publicity than actual talent. And who can tell nowadays who actually has talent, anyways? Starting in the 80s, bands began overprocessing the crap out of their music. It's all digitally modified, and you can tell. I like RAW music. Music that would sound good live, that doesn't overuse synthesiser. There is not a lot of that left.
When you live in a time where something like the Jonas Brothers can be compared to The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, can you really stand up and say that music is still fantastic?
I'm not saying there is no GOOD music now. But there is very, very little AMAZING music. At least by my standards. I suppose I don't think it's music that is sick, but rather the music industry. It's hard for me to believe that people now are any less capable of making great music...I can't see any reason for that. Maybe all the amazing bands and musicians that I can't seem to find are just being drowned out by the call for that overprocessed crap. And with no call for their music, all the good bands would end up having to go away.
Edit: Just wanted to add that this is based upon my opinion of the music I hear these days. Obviously. I'm not sure what else you want me to base this on.

ifelldownthestairsHippie's right though man. Some of those guys' songs were pretty good, but when you throw Zeppelin into the equation you break it. It's like introducing Einsteinian physics into a simple Newtonian universe: it's a whole new paradigm.

I mean, there's pleasant Claudian landscape painting, then there's freaking Constable and Turner! It's a different league.
Enough of these analogues... Basically, modern commercial music is often fine enough, but not much of it is truly very exceptional in its own right. Perhaps that's the fault of the current model in the industry; instead of marketing truly great music and bands, which is difficult because genius is rare, they attempt to make their own artificially (which only sort of works), as well as the old standard of marketing mediocrity and making it seem exceptional.
And hey, boobs can sell pretty much anything to me, so that does work :)

i will agree completely that the marketing has gone in a different direction. i don't think that the amount of relevant talent has changed any, but i do think that the attention has shifted dramatically.
it's been written that the beatles were one of very few artists of any discipline who were simultaneously the most popular AND the best at what they did. and look at the crappy pop acts that mimicked them; the first that comes to mind are the turtles. they sucked! i mean i like their music, but let's face it; it was just empty pop. and bands that really had something to contribute, something to say, were getting the real attention (the rolling stones, pink floyd, etc.), and it's the exact opposite now.
i'm not going to say that animal collective is superior to the velvet underground, or radiohead over pink floyd; but there HAD to be a band to set the standard, and to be perfectly frank it could have been anyone. any band was going to write a song that would change music, and for decades after their art would have been tweaked and led into new directions. if jimmy page had never been born, we'd be revering another hard rock band who broke ground, because someone had to eventually. like cheap trick, hahaha.
and i agree, ozone... your milkshake is pretty bad ass. but mine is better than yours. damn right, it's better than yours.

you, my friend, are correct. And the 1.7% of songs loved by the mass audience that are good? They get disco remixes. Bastards!
