I felt exactly the same way for the first season or two of Family Guy. It felt like a carbon copy of the Simpsons, only trying to be "edgy" by saying "penis" all the time. And it wasn't very funny. The thing is, even the Simpsons and Futurama needed a season or two to get really good. Family Guy has started to distance itself from the Simpsons by banking on randomness and nostalgic pop culture references.
Right now I hate America Dad, but I'm wondering if it'll start being good a year or so from now.
