I disagree. I don't think you are entitled to privacy in open public places. Not without outlawing photography etc. in those places completely.

And it has nothing to do with doing anything wrong. That applies to privacy, in which doesn't exist out on the street.

Then why do film crews need a permit to film in public areas? Why do the people they film have to sign waivers or permission contracts?

And it's not just because they make money. Several non-profit documentaries are made that still need permits and permission forms.

To use someones likeness in film you have to get their permission. That isnt an issue of privacy.

You aren't having anything taken away from you from this. Get over it. "People could virtually follow home" is rediculous. Even if it was updated in real time and that were possible, guess what, they can't go in your home. They can't get any information from you other than what they could if they were walking down the street. Now, I ask you this seriously, would you rather have some weirdo online see your house from google street view, or have some weirdo in the real world see you at the mall and follow you home?

that is effing retarded logic. Everything on this is 100% available with out streetview. in fact, if you want to argue that people can use it to plan any kind of attack, people can also use it to double their safety. Think about it. You're going to the planned parent hood(someone elses example) and you want to know which you should go to. Say there are two in your greater area. You can actually go and LOOK at the way the buildings are set up, you can see where the dangers on the street are, you can see if you'll have a problem with protesters.

Someone is stalking you? Google street view helps you look at the places you want to go before you get there.


Also, I get lost very easy. I'm dyslexic so I have a hard time reading street signs while I drive. This is amazing. I wish they had it for los angeles.

Privacy is part of it, but you don't need permission for someone's likeness, that'd be crazy! :) How would you do a news broadcast? But that's not a simple matter... There're other angles in that issue like rules against filming underage people, filming on private property, secretly recording people etc... It's more complicated than "you are allowed to do this but not that!".

As to the rest, that's silly. If it was real-time it would allow people to track others remotely. Yes that is a much bigger matter than a weirdo stalking you on the street because it makes it a lot easier to do: you're unlikely to have a street stalker because of the difficulties involved and the rarity of such a thing happening anyway, but if you make it easy for them it won't be so rare and it makes it much easier when they do graduate from cyberstalking to street stalking.

But the technology doesn't allow you to do that so it's not something to worry about with GSV as it is. ^_^

well, i guess it doesn't bother me cuz i allready assumed i was being watched by someone from the moment i step out the front door, they even listen to my phone calls and are prolly monitoring what i am writing here !!!
sometimes , dont you feel like a fish, strangers watching you and tapping on the glass from time to time , all you can do is go find the little sunken pirate ship to go hide out in !!!
