Actually, I'm just wondering if anyone else has played Psychonauts - cause I did pretty recently, and think it's such an aweseome game that if you haven't played it you need to now!

I want to play it. But I'm broke. And I'm saving my money for certain other games. It's good to be 14 and not have to worry about living expenses and such.

I got it the day it came out and devoured it within a few days. It's one of my favorite games of all time. :) The writing is clever and funny, the voices are appealing and great, and they put so much artistry and depth into the game I'm just amazed every time I play it.

Some of the level designs are amazing - the Milkman level is one everyone cites, but they're all special for their own reasons. Goggalor level was excellent, and Edgar's level is just a visual orgy of some kind. Napoleon's level design was really clever and it's just good fun to run around the camp. :)

I love all the dialogue and little details as well. They thought of what kinds of things people would want to try in the game and put them in. Even on my 3rd playthrough I was finding new cutscenes and things to laugh at. For instance, once you get clairvoyance you can go back to camp and start seeing how you look according to everything else. Some of them are truly hilarious, like Shee-gor. :) You can also fry the wildlife (if you can catch them), and when you show different objects to people sometimes they say really strange things.

I spent a solid 10 minutes using pyrokenesis on those squirrels.

The music too - I mean, it's nothing you'd buy the soundtrack for, but it is great bakground music, especially in the Napolean level, with a mix of the French Revolution and the 1812 Oveture.

One of the best games I've ever played. Tim Schafer is a comedic writing genious and its got a kick ass soundtrack by Peter McConnell.
Seriously a game everyone should play.

You just said you've got the mind of a little girl!

Look at that woman's breasts. They are large.

Psychonauts is incredibly awesome and should be played by everyone, everywhere. Several times. In all directions. After I got it I played it all the way through about 3 times straight.

Why are you reading the forums instead of playing Psychonauts? :?

Well, now I guess Psychonauts is my third priority in games to buy.

Yep. Dirge of Cirberus as first priority, the PSP Valkyrie Profile as second, and now Psychonauts is at third.

Given my present financial state, it'll be a while until I get Psychonauts. :(

Are you referring to the reviews on the Japanese version? Because they added in a bunch of content for the American release. The American version is getting mainly 7/10 in reviews, but, still. What's not to love about Vincent?

By now, it's impossible to create wholly original characters. All anyone can do is build off of Archtypes.

Well, anyway, this topic isn't about Dirge of Cerberus, it's about Psychonauts.

Tim Schafer has worked on tons of Lucasarts games, not sure about Monkey Island but I wouldn't doubt it from how funny I hear they are. Tim Schafer was pretty much entirely responsible for Grim Fandango (the best computer game ever) and Full Throttle.

Tim got hired on during Monkey Island 1, and worked on the sequel as well. He co-designed Day Of The Tenticle with Dave Grossman (who is now working on the new Sam and Max game with Telltale), did Full Throttle and Grim Fandango... which is the best computer game you will ever play.
Seriously. Manny Calavera is the greatest game character EVER.
Grim also features the best video game soundtrack you will ever hear, again by the great Peter McConnell.

This must be how missionaries feel when they convert a heathen! (before cannibles kidnap them with only a banana picker for company).

Yeah, the camera is a little wonky in some place, but, as far as the superhero fight goes, once you understand how it works you should get it the second time around.

...also, as far as DoC goes, (and I'm such a Vincent Fan Girl too) I'd skip on that and get Psychonauts first - or at least rent it, you can easily beat it in 2 or 3 days. The problem comes with the withdrawal after having not played it for a while.

No, I meant "too" as in "in addition; also; furthermore; moreover:"
and:
"to an excessive extent or degree; beyond what is desirable, fitting, or right"

Raz: Lili! An evil madman is building a fleet of psycho-death tanks to take over the world, and we're the only ones who can stop him!
Lili Zanotto: OH MY GOD! Let's make out!

How many times must I tell people to get Indigo Prophecy, Metal Arms, Psychonauts, and Breakdown before they actually do it?

Breadown and Metal Arms are two of the best games ever made. I second this, buy all the shit on Tater's list.

Anyone know if GF works with ScummVM? I've been playing Sam and Max, Monkey Islands, and Day of the Tentacle, and if I can find my Full Throttle and Grim Fandango CD's, I'll have to try them.

I don't even know if GF is based on the Scumm engine, although I don't see why not.

I've never had any problems playing GF on my XP machines though. They install and play off the CD straight away. You shouldn't need ScummVM to play it.

I believe this is because of Tim Schafer's relation with the Monkey Island games.
This is half right - it's also a throw back to the very first Monkey Island, when Guybrush goes into the SCUMM(TM) Bar, one of the pirate you can talk to has a button that says "Ask Me About Loom." And one of your dialogue options is to ask him abut Loom - and he goes into a sales pitch for Loom (which, by the way, if you've never played, you should somehow find a way to do so - it's really an amazing game).

So.. Uh... yess....
