It's not my normal thing to start topics, but AtomApple gave me an idea in TD a while back ( Other people have contributed to this concept as well. ). He posted a bunch of my strips trying to get my goat (weird phrase is it not? ), and I noticed that when he did I got a nice little boost in page views. So I thought, why not do much the same thing here in Comics Discussion? Chances are good, that DD being a community of artists and visual writers, many people, like myself, are more likely to be interested in something they can see rather than a simple text description.

The basic idea is this: post either your favorite page or strip from your comic or post the most recent one to share with people. It's fairly similar to our other two threads intended to let people know about your comic, just with an actual image instead. You should also give the prior person to post some form of credit or acknowledgement. The same basic rules as the update thread apply here.

If you don't have a favorite from your own, or you don't have a comic yourself, you don't need to be excluded. Simply post one of your favorites from another DD comic you're a fan of and give a link to their page or a sneak peek at something upcoming you're working on.

1. A simple text acknowledgment will work. Rather than bog things down by repeating images, leaving a quick text note would be better.

2. I was going to leave the decision on plugging another person's work up to admin. If they say it's ok, then people can do it. I don't necessarily see a problem with plugging another persons work, so long as they're given credit for it, but the admins may see things differently.

3. As for image size, anything 500-600 pixels wide or less will do. Most people's browsers should be able to handle that. One page per title was my original thought, since it's your favorite, but we'll see how things go. Co-artists and writers can post their own favorite since they are their own people and hence will have different favorites from their co-creators.

( note: admins, if this idea isn't cool, my apologies. I thought it would be a good idea and I haven't seen anything that would indicate that it's not acceptable here so I thought I'd give it a go. )

Hey... if I start off... I only have to plug myself...
FIRST! :D

FIGHT

This is one of my two stories (they're both set in the same world). Co-artist/ co-writer is Edbang, another DD veteran but he lurks. The above isn't a real page, but rather a collage of many pages showing the evolution of our art styles over the years.

Genre: Sci-fi/ fantasy story comic.
Art style: Mix of anime and 80's American cartoons.
Introduction: A ragtag band of people from diverse backgrounds find themselves stranded in a desolate land. All of them are stricken with mysterious amnesia. Their only clue to the situation is an identical small piece of paper that they each possess. Their only recourse - to survive.

The art starts out somewhat hokey, cuz in the beginning we were kinda messing around. But the story itself never falters; everything just clicked from the beginning.

FIGHT current chapter: Filling In The Gaps
FIGHT_2 current chapter: Light Years of Gold

@Mlai - I liked both your comics. Fight 1 and 2. But I like Fight 2 better as far as the art quality (I guess an artist of your caliber can call it a "style") is concerned.

MAG-ISA
http://drunkduck.com/MAG_ISA/index.php

Genre - A mix of genres. action, drama, spiritual/supernatural, sci-fi, angst, conspiracy, some comedy and sex and some political commentary.

Art Style - Manga

Introduction - Its the story of a loner who is tormented by inner and outer demons, an angel, and the big big conspiracy. Its called MAG-ISA because it is the tagalog word that means "to be alone".

kyupol: Your comic is great; even for people who don't normally read manga. The writing is very professional. The page you posted shows off your storytelling skills and ability to create mood.

Here is the most recent page from my comic, Comicdeoxyribonucleicacid :

Instead of creating several different comics, I chose to combine everything I create into one weekly super-comic with many different art styles and types of comics. The genre is humor (I hope) and it includes the newspaper-type strip "Pie & Guy" about a pie named Pie and his best friend Guy, celebrity caricatures, political cartoons, the "Bob the Angry Flower" parody, "Aandy the Aangry Aardvark", multi-page comicbook-type stories, and more.

Mmmmmmmm...

Rufus_Edge: I really like the art style of your comic. You put in so many nice details in your art that your comic looks like a professional publication. Your expressions and overall quality really impress me, and I'm sure others are just as impressed. The only suggestion I have is to get more people to view it, really.

Anyway, I'm afraid my main work is a fancomic in a sea of many. Link.

Latest page: 06-16-2008's update

Genre: Well, I have it listed as Action/Adventure, but you could also classify it as fantasy.
Art style: Um, I can't really say that I have an art style that can be described as manga, though I can't really say it is an American style either. Minimalist backgrounds occur a lot, though, not to mention most bg's and sfecial effects are done on computer. (Paint.NET)
Introduction: Bklcbkl is a new Pokemon trainer (based on Red, from Pokemon Yellow) who ends up receiving a Pikachu (named Nozo) and beginning a journey through Kanto with it. I can't really give a good summary of the plot because lately I have been constantly rewriting the future story to distance myself more from the source material so I am not just summarizing the game's plot. So far, I have rewritten the events of Vermilion City to accommodate a deviation point.

To be honest, I don't expect my comic to recieve praise from many of you, but that's OK. I want to know what people other than fellow Pokemon fancomic authors (who of course like my comic) think. I want to know if I have really improved since the comic's beginning...

@MysteriousJeff: Awe. I think it looks nice. I can see the manga influences, particularly in facial proportions. The outlines look really smooth. That can be tough to achieve. I think the simple style works well for your comic, and kudos to you for putting in the effort for a fan comic. (Too many -- esp. ones with video game subject matter -- are done with sprites, so yours stands out.) It really shows your skill and dedication.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This isn't my most recent page, but it is one I think represents my comic well in both subject matter and artwork. (The little characters at the bottom are actually non-canonical 4th wall breakers. They show up on title pages and milestones.)
Genre: I call it "crime drama" but in DD categories it's "mystery / adventure"
Art style: In DD categories, I've labeled it "sketch" (there's some manga influence)
Introduction: Basically, it's a story of three women who are best friends despite incompatibilities (different sides of the law, clashing histories, etc.) and obstacles. There's a dissolved crime syndicate, retired assassins and criminals, violence, redemption, trying to create new identities...
Edit: ACK! Forgot to comment, sorry :D
@usedbooks: Quite simple style but it tells the story clearly and that's what is important in the end.
and WOW at the number of pages :)
- - - - - - -
This is one of the recent pages on Din Krakatau.
Genre: Action/Adventure, I guess :)
Art style: A mixture of everything, a bit cartoons, european and american comics, manga, some underground influences. Constantly changing as I learn mroe stuff.
Introduction: Imagine you return home after being away for couple of years only to find out that your memories are fake, there's a shapeshifting tentacled monster pretending to be your mother and you used to be a wielder of a magical weapon.
Art changes all around, I started this as a simple practice project but it came out swell enough to do a proper webcomic out of it (and I'm roughly at 45% of its destined lenght).
Since Skool didn't tell us about her comic, I'll comment on Aurora's. It's a very nice style. Colourful, and yet gritty. Gives the explosions a nice touch and the lettering looks a little more violent in theose first few panels
Warriors of the Night
Genre: Action packed horror and war story, with some comic relief sprinkled here and there.
Art style: Apparently it's supposed to be a mix of american and manga, but it looks to be more on the american side.
Intro: Scientists with a god complex have turned ordinary humans into demonic creatures. Several thousand years later, earth is an apocalyptic wasteland and a vampire, along with his clan, has allied himself with his former human friends in order to fulfill some secret agenda
Insanity Complex : We may not be insane, but we like to think we are
Thanks skool for moding a little bit there. I'm going to guess that means I've got your thumbs up. Even if you didn't share. :(
Since I'm posting; Aussie_kid, I like how you used colour in order to show shape without line. That sort of thing isn't something I've often seen in webcomics and I find myself appreciating it. You've got a pretty good sense of humor too.
Since it is my thread, I suppose I should share a little something of my own ( Although, I can be skipped and the next person may comment on Aussie_kid's post if they like. ):
Last Words
Genre- Single Panel Humor
Art style- American Cartooning
Intro- Daily wit and humor following the chewing gum-based creatures known as chicles
who routinely manage to hurt each other, get in trouble and cause damage. I try to avoid all the most regular pitfalls of humor strips such as in-jokes and I work to make it as enjoyable to pick up at any point as possible. Each comic comes with a daily humor column to read and commenting and/or speaking one's mind is highly encouraged.
The early ones are quite rough and as far as I'm concerned Last Words is just truly beginning to show what I really want it to be like, and I'm hoping I'm improving it with each drawing I do.
EDIT @ LBA
Sorry LBA I read your post up there but somehow I missed this rule. Don't feel bad I used to post in threads like this all the time and people were always giving me the shaft. You know I like your comic I've commented on it before. The character designs are very original and interesting.
Genre- Fantasy Adventure Comedy
Art style-Manga hybrid
Intro-The distant planet Caliginus is full of villains, gods, and monsters, a challenge for any hero! Even Thomas Slugo the greatest warrior this world has ever seen! But Slugo is a simple man... Um well actually Okay... He's dumb.
Okay, let's play some catch-up! I'll comment to all the people who got skipped, and we'll try this afresh. Woo!
Used Books: As a follower of your comic, it's really awesome to see how quickly you improve. I love seeing you challenge yourself with new angles and layouts regularly. There's a lot of power and intensity in your storytelling which is great - I love well-thought-out stories with intrigue and hints at the past. You keep me hooked every day!
Iba: I haven't had a chance to dig through your comic quite yet, though it's been on my "to read" list since your creator interview. I love the simplicity of your characters, and it's cool how, despite the simplicity, your drawings are interesting to look at. You have a fun and quirky sense of humor, and I'll have to push Last Words up on my list so I can get current.
WarpedWenger: Your comic is just fun to look at and read! Your characters are interesting and well-designed, and I thoroughly enjoy the story. (Sorry I have been a non-existant commenter - I just recently caught up). Always look forward to more!
This isn't the most recent page of Salt the Holly, but it's one of my favorites. I was really proud of the art on this one (heh, it's a little wordy, though). It's not perfect, but it's oodles better than what I could produce when I first got started.
Genre: I guess adventure. Close enough.
Art Style: I don't think I've settled into what anyone could call a style yet. ^.^
Intro: Basically a fairly light-hearted story centered around two roommates and the situations they get into complete with memory loss, romantic drama, and a disgusting old man.
Salt The Holly - Amanda, I love your recent use of inserting real photos into your background, it's hilarious! And as you know, I enjoy your style. I still have to catch up on the overall plot but overall, it's a fun comic to follow. :)
Due East
This is a recent page and incredibly intense, as the mildest character gets pushed past her breaking point and lashes out!
Genre: Real Life/Slice of Life.
Art style: American with influences from all over, ironically mostly from Marvel and DC superhero comics of the 1970s and 1980s.
Introduction: A multiracial family tries to come back together years after a bitter divorce. Main focus is on the teen and early 20s daughters but each family member has a significant role in this story.
Dying will be the death of me
This is a very interesting style of pixeling. I like the close ups of the characters rather than the typical small sprite look. Good work on the blood!
The Faction
The Faction - I love your style! Very different, as well as the coloring! But...they're eating roast lizard? O_o Can't say I blame her for not wanting to eat that then. XD
VAMPIRE PHANTASM: EXCRUCIO
Genre: Horror / drama mainly I guess. Though it can have a little bit of everything.
Art style: Manga, but I've been trying to make it a bit more of my own thing and less "Generime" as they call it.
Introduction: A prequel to the other Vampire Phantasm comic here on DD, though lots of things are going through some adjustments so please bare with me. ^^; Jack confronts Topaz for the first time, and we also see Jack's fall to madness and violence through Orlock's torments.
Um...hi? It's freakin' Vampire Phantasm! What's not to love?! One of my faves on DD.
This is an older page, but it's one of my personal favorites.
Faust
Genre: Drama, with a spiritual nudge as well.
Art Style: Manga. (I'm still working on creating my own style, but...old habits and all that, y'know?)
Introduction: My own reinterpretation of the old Faust story, where Dr. Faust sells his soul to the devil for knowledge and power. Basically, I'm taking different elements from the various stories out there, and blending them together while adding a lot of my own stuff in it.
I like the different choice of shade for the art. Also the pose on this page is pretty decent I like the clothes and the hair sticking up on the wall.
Illegal Aliens
Genre: Sci-fi, bits of drama, and conspiracies(which comes later)
Art Style: I don't know sketchy cartoony you tell me...it's my recent style mostly helped with the colors
Introduction: A ship orbits a planet, an agent contacts them, boy wakes up...more of the story to come I just don't want to spoil it...I've only posted 7 pages.
Illegal Aliens has made an interesting start. The art style is indeed "sketchy cartoony" but that can be to its advantage, especially on a page dealing with younger characters like this. Still too early to judge the story, but Ziffy has started to weave a couple of different layers into it already which is promising.
Shades
This page is the last of a flashback sequence in which two of our central characters are having a little heart-to-heart, after having thwarted a nasty plot back in Victorian London (hence the sepia tones!)
Genre: Action/adventure mixed with historical fiction and garnished with just a soupcon of super hero!
Art Style: We were aiming for "realistic but stll recognisably comic book" and "recognisably comic book but not US mainstream". Luckily I'm not the artist but I think Harsho (who is!) managed to reconcile both those contradictions rather well!
Introduction: Shades is the story a group of UK super heroes, questioning the role they (and their country) have to play in the modern world. The action takes place mostly in the present but is liberally sprinkled with flashbacks like this one, spanning some 5,000 years of British history.
Shades is an incredible comic that really outdoes itself on all fronts. The art is superb and the writing is crisp.
The Chronicles of Wyrden
The Chronicles is a skewed look at traditional fantasy, with a cast of characters that you won't find being heroes for the usual reasons most people would expect. They're not cut out to save the world, in fact, most of them are really going after their personal agendas. It's definitely got its roots in fantasy but there's steampunk and a dash of romance. It's also a decidedly mature comic in that Reva doesn't shy away from depicting scenes of violence or sex, but she does it in a very subtle and artistic manner.
This scene's taken from where one of the characters is looking for someone to help them with a certain problem. Jacob requires help for the three women he's sworn to protect. But finding that help in a port city like Sullavale is hard at the best of times.
Genre: Fantasy/Action/Adventure/Romance/Swashbuckling and with a dash of conspiracy topped with a generous twist of steampunk!
Art Style: Since we're new to comics in general, Reva's style is her own. It's a sketchy black and white style that aims for realistic, with a little dash of some of the older artists and is inspired a lot by Frank Frazetta. She loves details.
Introduction: Wyrden is the story drawn from the books I wrote, it takes place several years after the last book and brings together characters from the two books and numerous short stories. It's like a director's cut of the whole world and there are lots more tales to tell in the Chronicles. It can be humerous, it can be dark, it can be disturbing but most of all I like to think it's entertaining.
A Ronin writer, a masterless samurai of the written word...
http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Chronicles_of_Wyrden/
Updating: Thursdays. Now in glorious Ink Wash and Water Soluble Pencil! Reva's note: This is not created digitally, it's all hand drawn and inked.
Wyrden: Ooooo, you have an eye for detail! I love really intricate art like this. I looked at the page a couple of times and every time I look back a saw something I didn't notice before :D. Which is good. I admire that bird as well; I can't draw animals for the life of me. D:
Presence has a pretty simple concept; I love to write poems, and I love to draw, so I put the two together and made this comic. This is the latest page and the start of a new poem:
Genre: A little bit of everything from romance to angest (not in an emo fashion) to humor.
Art Style: I suppose I pretty much do my own thing, but it is a little anime-influenced
Introduction: None, really. A group of illustraited poems. :D
This is why Wyrden is always 600*847, it never changes unless that one piece about Bell Alley forces it to be wider.
Genre: Romancey drama comedy about girls in love.
Style: Mango
Story: After hiding her relationship with Amy for years, Shanna is found out by Layla- a girl renowned at school for her insane 'vigilante justice'. Shanna must keep Layla from telling her secret-but how?
my favorite page for PUTRID MEAT would be
i gotta change the title on it, but for the kinda stuff i have planned for this chapter, i think it's a neat cover. Bones and Puke go to war.
Genre: toxic thrash metal action
Art style: thrash metal, beer, and popping zits
Intro: The misadventures of Bones, the back alley thrash-metaler and his friends, Puke, Jack the Ripper and Charlette the Harlot. Whatta scamp.
I'm not much of a sprite guy, but those graphics are rather impressive compared to some of the sprite comics I have seen here. Page length? Ha! Looks like mine. Good advice, spread your stuff out. I'm learning the hard way.
Genre: Real-life, middle school, drama
Style: American
Story: It's no coincidence that Teddy Atwater suffered a concussion-ending soccer season, which lead to him flunking the sixth grade - Little does he know, his small circle of friends were indirectly responsible for his misfortune!
Better Luck Next Time: Synchronicity is the story of how the lives of the six original characters inter-connected before they even knew each other, which lead Teddy to his fateful day!
BLNT is very professional in both its style and content. They have an absolute mastery of using gradients in flash. A+
Here is the first page from Werewolf, I suggest you read the 22 pages in order as it is a story comic. Warning, mild violence and gore.
Genre: Comedy, horror, absurdism
Art Style: my old patented comic style, six panels, blank voids for backgrounds, a world full of intentional plot holes and spelling errors. Cut and pasted, simplistic artwork. Its a 22 page story with a begging, middle, and end. Couldn't take you more than twenty minutes to read through, so whats stopping you?
Story: A werewolf has a habit of murdering teenage girls. Another creature sets him out on a quest, against his will.
Werewolf is very tongue in cheek. My most mainstream work yet, and it still has the same wierdness you would expect from my work. Its a spinoff from my previous entertaining series of internet comics. Its easy to follow and the authors notes are also comedic in nature. You don't have to like werewolf movies or chuck palihnuck (sp) or kubrick or anything else I allude to. References are there, but it doesn't depend on them for the comedy. My favorite thing about it has to be the narrator in the red boxes. The story goes into places you won't expect and I will probably use the same format for future works of mine.
Edit: Your werewolf story sounds interesting. I like the simple coloring and boxes.
I hope I'm doing this right ^.^
My favorite and my own comic, worlds Apart
Genre: Adventure, Action, mystery, Fantasy
Style: done in simple 5-8 boxes, colored in Photoshop.
Information: A story even young kids could enjoy. I've written 508 chapters plus special long chapters. Now I'm in the process of converting most of the chapters to comic.
This is a story about a special pony named Lunarstar, born as a winged unicorn, the first of her kind. At a very young age, she lived with her adopted parents in a world where unicorns, pegasus and other magical creatures don't exists. She has made friends and is living what seemed like a normal life disguise as an earth pony till the day she was found by two ponies, her life has never been the same since.
Her life is about to get more complicated as she discovers who she is and how important she is. She'll soon discover secrets that she had long forgotten, secrects that will change everyone she meets.
Lacerated Veil - That was random as hell, rofl, but I LOVE that kinda thing! I'll definitely check that out ASAP. Simplistic art style, but that also works with the comic's humour.
Retake
Name: Retake
Genre: Superhero, American (Drawn by MrHades, Dan Butcher)
Introduction: Brad Stone goes from movie-hero to the real thing overnight, and quickly discovers the consequences - and risks - that come with his newfound abilties, and that nothing, not even victory, is guaranteed when there are no 'Retakes.'
Retake - What happens when a movie star goes from portraying a hero on the silverscreen to becoming one in real-life? Nothing good...
