you basically expect the various political media to lie all the time for their own purposes and adendga....

But now sites and TV shows might be lying about such a stupid thing as the actual game content for a certain console?

I mean it's one thing for them to voice their opinions on which consoles is the best.... but to lie about what a game is really like? jeez!

It's Gametrailers, they've been doing the bogus comparison videos for a while now. Gametrailers has gotten a lot of flack ever since people started to notice that the comparison videos featured unoptimized video feeds from the PS3 which made it look like the PS3 versions of every third party game were visually worse than the 360 versions. Bias in the gaming media is nothing new. At the very least, it's been around since the NES days.

I remember seeing the commercials for Final Fantasy 7, and they were all FMV cutscenes. I'm sure there weren't too many people who came away from FF7 upset because of that, but at least in that day and age it was pretty misleading advertising.

It's kind of sad that Microsoft STILL does that with most of their games. Even with games like Gears of War they didn't have any gameplay footage in the commercial. Plus they pick inappropriate licensed music for the ads, too, like the one for Lost Odyssey.

I remember my friend letting me borrow his copy of Final Fantasy 7 for the first time right before the PS2 came out, and as I sat down to play it, I realized that I had no idea what the actual game itself looked like. Imagine my surprise when I wasn't looking at characters with normal human proportions like in the slickly rendered (at the time) videos I saw advertising it.

This is no different than the XBox and PS2 using pre-rendered video and passing it off as 'game footage'. Remember when Sony claimed the PS2 had enough power to render the whole of Toy Story in real time? Or SEGA claiming that Sonic the Hedgehog was only possible on the Genesis because of Blast Processing, or Nintendo touting its 16 bits of RAW POWER?

Seriously, if you're only JUST NOW getting upset about game advertisements, then you've just simply not been paying attention to game ads.

It's been like this for years and not just with Game Trailers.

Most of the time it's just a marketing scheme (IMO at least). It's always the cutscenes they show and hardly ever the real gameplay. That is how they get your money. Though sometimes you still walk away happy because the game isn't all that bad, for example FF7.

I'm pretty sure the point of the thread was pointing out that they took videos of actual gameplay from one console and pretended it was from another. Advertising was never mentioned at all. Why is that being discussed?

It may be my fault. I thought the topic was misleading game trailers, when really it was more about Game-Trailers' misleadings.
