I like the interview. He's got a lot of good stuff to say. He also builds himself up a little bit when talking about 300, but that's to be expected.
There's really only a couple of super hero comics worth reading anymore. One would be Invincible, and then there's Nextwave. I suppose you could throw The Mighty Avengers on there too, and maybe All Star Superman. But other than that...there are too many superheros.

I wish.
Too bad American comic artists don't have assistants like Japanese comic artists do. That would be a great way for newbies to learn the craft.
But anyway I DO highly recommend everyone read Invincible. It's well written, funny, action packed, and infuses everything exciting about superhero comics into a single book without being too full of homages. Also it's everything in one book, so unlike Marvel and DC you only need to buy the one series to "get" what's happening.

Try Mystery in Space miniseries. It is good, entertaining, and a mix of wacky storyline and good actions.

It is such a pity that FM output has turned so rubbish these days. He has so many classics under his belt but doesn't seem to have the gift any more.
Tis a pity..

I agree Invicible is definitely worth checking out. I'm refusing to buy the single issues though, since I can't stand having the story broken up that much. I've just been collecting the trades as they hit the shelves.
I'm also doing that other comic "Space Waffles ".
We now have a podcast called The Random Pirate Comics Show!

Fuck Frank Miller. The god damn batman's not finished, and its been two years. Also I hate DC comics anyway.
I did like Born Again a lot though. Also the obligatory Sin City, Dark Knight Returns, and even 300.

All-Star Batman and Robin: They Boy Wonder is a series of nicely colored rubbish! I simply hate it. And Miller does his best job to SUCKIFY this series more and more!
Glad DC take a stance to keep it away from the great year of 52 !
DC is great. At least it has more vocabulary for titles than Marvel's Spider-man, X-men, and Avengers which have three or more titles of the same character or teams.

DC is better than marvel...
no, hold that thought,
In my opinion DC are better than Marvel. Most of the comics i read at the minute are from Vertigo with a few Icon titles and one Marvel comic (newuniversal, which is great!)

I like DC for it's Vertigo titles and for All Star Superman. The thing with Marvel and DC is that they're such different universes. DC is much more concerned with iconic heroes and keeps itself pretty far away from the "politics" and "real world" stuff that Marvel has been doing lately. It was really refreshing to read All Star Superman after reading Civil War. Civil War's art might have been fantastic, but All Star Superman was just plain fun. I dunno, at the end of the day there's room for both, but both companies have produced crap and greatness at the same time.
Personally I wish Image Comics would run more long running series like Invincible and The Walking Dead. They seem pretty bent on releasing mostly 6 issue series, which really doesn't give enough time at all to get to know the characters or do anything really big. Although I have to say Platinum has really been annoying me lately because ALL of their series seem to be 4 issues long. It's really hard to accomplish more than just straight plot in 4 issues. After 2 full issues of Hero By Night I have no idea how DJ Coffman is gonna wrap everything up and still develop his characters more in only 2 more issues.
Of course on the other end of the spectrum you've got 30 volume manga series which have been going on far too long, and you wish they would just stop. Same with American properties like Batman or X-Men.
A nice balance of 20-50 issues would be a nice change.

Yeah, All Star Superman is the best fun superheroes title I enjoyed, next to Blue Beetle and Mystery in Space (too bad it's just a miniseries..). It's been giving out fresh ideas each 8 weeks.
And i hate long mangas that get extended indefinitely because it is a popular one, like Meitantei Conan and Inu Yasha. They tend to smell "milked" after issue 15 or so.
The same goes to Manhwa like The Impeccable Twins or The Oriental Heroes that go on and on and on, often recycling/refurbish past plots and characters

Yeah, there's been a couple of Japanese series that actually hit that mark. It's funny, because that kind of pacing allows the artists in Japan to spend a lot of panels kind of "pacing" things, which makes the story slower but can also make it seem more epic and evoke a more emotional response because the world becomes clearer. More and more American comics seem to rush the plot to try to accomplish everything they can because of the limited number of issues.

Are you talking about tankoubon volumes (180 pages thingie) or chapter numbers?
Cause....wow....100 volumes? Doraemon?

There's a couple of others that made it to 100 volumes. One is a fantasy manga that was never released in the US, and one is a Shoenen Jump comic about a police officer which is around 130 volumes at the moment.
Yeah, 100 chapters is nothing in manga.

Yeah, which is a welcome change from "Batman" or "Superman", although the storyarc in those comics do come to a close. The characters just keep going on and on though.

Yeah, for those iconic characters, cycle of life is meaningless and biological needs to procreate is non-existence.
I meant, Batman can be anyone else, not only Bruce Wayne. DC has Dick Grayson and Jason Todd ready to fill Batman's boots.
Superman can be made to have a child with Louis Lane and forced to retire. Heck, they have Supergirl, Powergirl, and Superboy Prime ready to take over Superman's duty.
Green Lantern is going nicely with the cycle of life till Hal Jordan was forced to "rebirth" and take over main position of Earth's sector Green Lantern. Kyle Rayner was going nicely with his life and Green Lantern duty.
Flash, on the other hand, is a good example of role legacy. First you got Barry Allen, and then Wally Wallace, and finally Bart Allen taking the role of The Flash. Not to mention that the golden age flash, Jay Garrick, is depicted as old and aging man.
They should learn from Dragon Ball Z. At least Goku was depicted as a dead character, not a living one, although he beat up lots of living people.
Or perhaps, they should learn from pioneer of many things: Gatchaman. One of the top characters died!
But at least DC is progressing with this whole legacy thing. We got new Blue Beetle, new The Question, new Green Arrow is coming (Connor Hawke), Bruce Wayne is depicted as having a son, and a new Kryptonian kid (Christ Kent) is being introduced in Action Comics.
Perhaps there is hope for the spandex people after all.
