Fun Fact

Final Fantasy Tactics is pretty much one of the greatest RPG's ever, with and extremely tight battle system, and job class mechanic that gives it a shockingly high level of replayability. It's storyline is emersive and filled with drama, humor, and great pacing and characterization that is rivaled only by the likes of the Persona series.

If you dont own this game, or you havent played it, go out and pick it up now. IIRC it's coming to PSN in the near future for the low low price of 10 bucks. You have no reason not to pick up this classic.

Do they have a version for DS that has the original style of FF tactics characters as opposed to the Ivalice setting that was going on in the GBA versions? Because if so I'd nap that up. Shame I don't have a PSP or I'd pick up War of the Lions.

Course not. Nintendo always gets stuck with the retarded cousin of all Final Fantasy games. Enjoy A2 in all of it's crapiness. The law system was about a brilliant idea as dragging your balls through a bunch of broken glass.

Although I found FFT's storyline as detached as a high school history book, I have to agree the combat system for tactical gameplay with a healthy mix of chaos can't be beat. I feel it set the standard for many future grid based fantasy games.

The original translation is not the best. I should clarify that I'm talking about the War of the Lion's translation, which really adds some much neaded coherency to the story.

It would be more fun if you bought the game and enjoyed yourself for a little bit.

Shame on me for sharing good taste. :V

While FFT is epic and the Advance spinoffs have been total dogshit, I have to say it's too easy to break the game. As in, once you figure out the shortcuts, you can make an unstoppable team pretty easy and rock on through it. Especially the whatchamacallit starter class that gets the JP, EXP, and speed boosting abilities. Grinding to hax gets pretty easy.

Your first time playing I seriously doubt you'll know how to massively break the game to the point of unenjoyment, unless you're some moron who goes out and reads FAQs as soon as you get a new game in which case I want to know how you can enjoy anything.

I played it like crazy on my PS1 when I was younger (13 or 14, I don't even remember anymore), grinded like crazy so I could get my speed high enough to swipe the genji gear.

Played it again on the PSP, was way easier because I knew how to equip and grind right. If you're an attentive player and really look at what the abilities do and plan your level process, the game isn't difficult at all.

It's storyline is emersive

...So it blocks you out? Are you sure you're not talking about the original translation?

Meanwhile, back on topic: My copy of War of the Lions recently broke. Not the disc, just the stupid goddamn UMD case they all come in.

I meant "immersive" but my retard brain spelled it wrong. It makes you feel one place when you're really not there, in other words it drags you into the game's conflict and makes you feel for the characters involved.

Also big shock a UMD case broke. I'm sure that has nothing to do with Sony chosing a retarded means to store media. :V

The way you described it, it sounded like Disgaea, which is like, my favorite RPG. I didn't like Tactics that much unfortunately.

So you prefer a game with retarded AI, poor level design (on the stages that aren't made worse by the random level generator), and a gameplay system with a fraction of the depth. I guess the characters are cute, but that's really the only thing Disgaea has over FFT. I also find it hard to respect any tactical game that actually forces you to grind.

Yeah Disgaea can be pretty horrible. But the crazy plot and ability to get retardedly strong characters that can rape anything compelled me to play it. It is entirely possible in each game to level up several hundred levels in the matter of an hour. Grinding to that point is still kinda a pain in the ase.

FFT > Disgaea
