Basically, it's a Guitar Hero clone for the PC. This is such an addictive game, and I don't know why. I'm actually doing crap at school because of this. One of the best thing is that it's kind of community based, so people can send their songs and stuff.

According to the forums, it supports the Guitar Heroes controllers, as well. I may have to pick it up.
Well, whenever the sourceforge site goes back up.

I hadn't heard you can use the GH controller, that's awesome! I'm guessing you just need to pick up some sort of PS2 to USB adaptor or something along those lines?
That would be mighty nifty.

yeah, it works with the controller if you have a PS2-USB converter, but the game doesn't run particularly well, even on my high end machine. They seem to try to make up for this by making it way to easy to hit each note. I'm not sure what the problem is, considering the incredibly low quality of the graphics, it shouldn't be causing any problems. I can run Oblivion fairly well onmy machine, but this lags at each note. All I can really do is chalk it up to poor programming. I'll be sticking with Guitar Hero for the time being.
Also, there is a function to import the PS2 songs into the game, but it takes a ridiculously long time. After waiting four hours, it finally finished converting the first song. I wasn't about to tie up my computer for the next few days doing this, though, so I had to ctrl+alt+del and stop the application. There has to be a better way to handle that. If PS2 emulators exist which can actually play games on your PC, there is no reason it should take four hours to convert a simple text file and an audio track.

I'm planning on switching over to the 360 version once it comes out. The downloadable song packs are a pretty big draw for me.

I'm just irritated by the fact that the controllers for the 360 aren't wireless. Microsoft apparently won't license their wireless technology, so third parties aren't allowed to make wireless controllers. I guess my dream of four player wireless Guitar Hero will have to wait for a PS3 version. I'm also not too keen on paying for downloadable music packs for a game that already costs $90.

What makes me sad about Frets on Fire is the lack of the whammy bar. I'd sure like to see this game get refined and improved though. Music videos in the background would be nice, too. I could see myself doing several songs for it like in Stepmania.

well, to be honest, there aren't any. Last time I checked, PS2 emulators couldn't play crap. Odds are, the situation hasn't changed much.
For now, though, I'm content with Guitar Hero 2. "Oooooh, oh, sweet child o' mine..."
It's a comic!

Actually there are a couple that can manage some limited gameplay. The limitation of the emulators is not based on an inability to read the format, though. That was my point. If an emulator can read and interpret that data in real time, why does it take frets on fire so long to convert files?
Also, anyone else miffed about the price on the downloadable songs for the 360 version? As if the $90 price tag wasn't bad enough, they expect people to pay over $2 a song for the old content from the first game.

Actually, that makes me feel better about not getting the 360 version, and just getting the PS2 version. I don't even have a 360, anyway.
It's a comic!
