i was talking to T_k the other day and we were showing off some of our artwork from our past that we are pretty well ashamed of.

I thought it'd be interesting to see if anybody's got some art lying around to show here that you aren't too proud of. Whether it be artwork from a year ago, or just a horrible past in art.

Here's some of my shameful stuff:
Here's a comic i started drawing a year ago, it sucked, but spawned one of my favorite characters i've ever drawn.

My personal Dark age...

Aaaaaaaaaaahhhh...isn't nostalgia great? But don't look at your old stuff as being "shameful". Consider those to be visual creative snapshots of your skillset as you develop and go beyond that amateur look in your drawings. It's always neat to look back. I still have art from my Junior High days (now known as "Middle School" here in my parts).

wow @_@ I'm so ashamed to post stuff here :P most of the comics I used to do were Sonic & Knuckles-inspired (back when Sega was big).

I think I still have some stuff from '96...

It's a bit long for a forum post, so I hope my linking to my "Quest for Improvement" doesn't give anyone convulsions.

And even then, there are some of those "current" images that I'd like to be rid of.

Four years old, from when I was 17. Man, my anatomy was AWFUL!
http://www.angelfire.com/indie/mongoose0/roleplay.htm

Hahahaha, I can't really be ashamed of them though. I'd be far more disappointed if four years had passed and I hadn't improved at all. At least looking at these I can go 'yeah, I've improved.'

Here are some of my first digitally colored gifs from back in the days when JASC was still a company and had just released Paint Shop Pro 4 *sigh* (and if you dont know, JASC was bought out by Corel and Paint Shop Pro 11 will be out soon if not already).

This is my mascot character Kami: an adorable blue demon girl with a crush on a spastic little elf.

The very first Kit and Suzi doodle, from February of this year.

I am VERY pleased with my 9 month improvement!

I also have a huge collection of horrific Invader ZIM fanart from when I was 13-14, but thankfully, any of it that was scanned has been lost.

I hope.

I can't draw, fortunatley in webcomicng that is not always a problem, In 8 months the pinical of my artistic ability has gone from this:

To this:

I personally am pretty proud of such distinct improvment, although it took much longer than I would have liked.

Here's more change.

Two clips of early pages of Equinox, and a drawing of Rose I did last night.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that the quickest way to improve your art is to make a comic. Just drawing is cool, and so are proffesional classes. But making a comic forces you to be consistent, use different perspectives, and draw many different things.

Meh, if your lower half neither requires the protection of clothing nor is hideous/offensive then why cover it up? that's what I reckon.

Yeah, I drew the furries during the time when Sega/Sonic was really popular and people like J.Axer and Bara-chan were popular all over the net for the furries. I hung out at Furry chats (Miss Sonic's chatroom! XD), Furry MUCKs, and of course all the art sites that were around at that time :P

Who knows? I might get back into drawing furries one day :P

This post is double shameful in that its also sort of a teaser for my upcoming comic project called The Lament of Lycidas.

The first is the character Baezel when I first designed him in 2001.. The next is Baezel from two days ago when I was designing some pages for the comic's debut.

Now for something really embarrassing !!

Behold !! The first drawing of Narou (sorta): Narou circa 2000

The first drawing of Yoshiki from Oni No Noroi: Ookami circa 2000

And one more from ONN: Gouzaa circa 2000

Your proportions are actually pretty good on those characters, kaminari. They look a little stiff, but still.

Haha. you all guys should see the stuff I drew like 8-9 years ago when I was still in junior high to high school.. in fact I'll show you the crappy stuff I came up with.

This is my Magical Mania Characters as they oringally appeared..

Camilla used to be called Malicami Jewell, and she was an mad genius who wanted to take over the world. but she used her innocent looks and girly charms to hide that fact. Ends up being the hero despite the fact that she has an life goal that could be conidsered villianous.. man, how much she changed, huh?

Duppy Aka Duplictia... pretty much the same in personality and clothing syle, that's just her hairstyle changed is all. plus looks better due to improvements in drawings. tags along with Ranmza and "Malicami" on the aventures, and videtapes everything on her camera.

Ranmza oringally wasn't an goth.. was an eetrretic daughter of an billionare who loved to dress in mismatching bright clothes, and an sort that craved aventure, and so ended up forcing "Malicami" to go on aventures with her and making "Malicami" Aka Camilla, the hero. ((by the way I have the same exact of shorts she's wearing.. ^^;;))

Rani Valenitio--still pretty much the same, only expect he used to be this famous figure in the world... an idol you might say. so he didn't go to school or join in the aventures... just liked to hang around the girls to annoy the hell out of "Malicami". also had a habit of wearing no shirt, so that he could bare his chest for the world to see.

and the main villianess wasn't an Dark queen or nothing. but rather Ajax, the Crazy bondage pirate Queen from outer space, who was roaming the galaxies for an perfect, powerful Mate. sounds good, but the catch is that where she came from, the tradition to test an poetinal mate was to battle that person to almost near death! and she became quickly infurated with Malicami, and ended up wanting to battle her to test her... and ends up stirring up all sorts of crazy shit just to catch Malicami's attention and also to make her come to the Pirate Queen. mmmm, violent lesbain pirate love, nothing better than that right?

The older comic also had that Charlie brown thing going on with the adults/parents.. you know, where they're hardly seen at all, and if they do make an appearance, only parts of them are seen and only thier voice is heard. so Kiasun NEVER made an appearance at all, even though I did draw him a few times in the past and gave him an name. ^^;;
Poor, poor kiasun.

oh yeah, did I metion that every time Malicami transformed, I always had her wearing a competely different superheroine outfit each time? all because I couldn't dedice on an great design. and I came up with tons of funky ones like those.

I remember her challege pharse too: "I won't allow you to inflict chaos and trouble upon this peaceful city, only I can do that! I, the Techolgoical Merlin of the Century, Super Cami, will be your oppoent!!"

Man, good old times. and now if you look at the stuff now, it seems all so different. my older version was sorta like a whacked out Magical girl series mixed in with Cheesy 50-60's Scifi stuff from old comic books... with a huge amount of lesbsians and insanity.half of it didn't even make sense.. stuff was just happening for the heck of it. I'll try to find some of the old comic pages to show you what I mean.
I'm on hitatus while I redo one of my webcomics. Be sure to check it out when I'n done! :)

Interesting seeing people's earlier work. Nice to know where stuff came from...

I don't have much of my really old art anymore. I DO have some crappy stuff from around 1997-98 when I created Pinky though:

The first pic of Pinky ever:

-It's painting, 2foot square, acrylic on ply.

The first Cc ever (predates Pinky slightly):

-acrylic on ply, 12x12 inches.

Pinky and Cc together:

-acrylic on ply, 12x12 inches.

Another one of Pinky and Cc together:

-acrylic on ply, 12x12 inches.

With more really bad, disproportionate, wierd looking figures in pics on my old Pinky Gallery .
Basically, The figures are really bizzare. I'm not sure why, I suppose I was just a lazy artist and didn't bother to fix those sorts of things before I finished the pic... I'd get caught up stylising things to hell and back or playing with the materials. Ah, but then I was studying fine art and realism definitly wasn't the goal!
Still, they look fricken weird to me now that I'm doing more nomral comic stuff, rather than "art" :P

I have a really eye-raping comic that I made when I was nine or ten. It was a Pokémon/Digimon/Monster Rancher rip off. Seriously. I just plain copied them. I know I still have. I'll show it to you later.

I have something like that. It centered around people using spirits and the spirits would transform into bigger spirits after a while. It was a total pokemon/yugioh rip-off.
