A pal of mine bought me a PSP for my birthday last year and FF:CC game. (He has too much money.) I was really quite looking forward to this game, but after playing it in July of last year I only got round to finish it recently. Because it was lengthy and there was lots to do? Hardly.
First off, FF games have thrived on gripping storylines and narrative, what you get from this game is a story that feels as though it was written by 10 different people who tackled a section each and then slapped it together without checking to see if it actually fits. I was so bored by the story, mainly because I hadn't got a clue what was going on. It's confusing and ridiculous, and you get no explanations for anything. I can't even explain how it is, thats how perplexed I was, you'd have to play it yourself to know what I mean.
As for the actual game itself, the battle system is a joke - what you get is a game that tries to be some kind of hybrid between your typical command-list-turn-based FF, with a hack and slash action game. What you get is a game which is almost in real-time, but yet not quite, and you fight alone. You essentially are running around in an invisible box with enemies, pressing the Attack command over and over and occassionally healing, you might as be pressing X and O or whatever buttons. It just feels like they didn't know what they wanted. The main problem however is you constantly have these slot reels come up with peoples faces on them dictating a 'special move' which will be performed if they match up. You're trying to fight and this happens every 10 seconds, you don't trigger it, it just happens for no reason. And whats worse is you actually level up if three numbers below the slots happen to be the same. Because killing monsters to gain EXP would have been too boring? Your level will basically be completely random, same goes for everything else.
However the game has some pretty nice looking cutscenes, with an obvious Advent Children feel to them. And the music in some places is pretty good too. But thats as far as the chocolate of the game goes.
I don't even care if anyone reads this, just needed to rant about it. Feel free to prove me wrong or remind of any other reasons why you shouldn't buy this game. This game sort of ruined the PSP for me.
(I'm going to catch you fern.)

This game kinda bored me too. I like the concept and it's admirable to try new things and be original, but in final fantasy you kinda expect some things. For example, EXP leveling you up instead of 777. I do like the real time aspects of the game though. I'm not really inspired to finish it so maybe i'll change my mind.

The ending clip was going to be not so bad, but the fact that he rises up towards heaven along with the endless reams of clips that make no sense ruin it.
I hate this game so much I think I'll mail it to Squaresoft with a note entitled "Have you even played it?"

I personally think your standards are too high... The game was good for that particular time on the PSP. It did however feel pretty drawn out.
I would have prefered experience leveling you up instead of that slot machine garbage tho.
