I'm assuming you like games such as Diablo.

Oh dear god no! Mindless button clicking is not any fun either. I prefer games with semblance of depth or at least some reliance on reflexes. Clicky hack'n slashes are downright awful.

Then WTF do you want?? Name me some examples of this uber-RPG you're promoting which has deep strategic and management elements, yet is fully real-time and depends on your reflexes.

Alright!! Genstru is back...with a rant.

You know nobody answered my question on why people like Final Fantasy games so much. Turn bassed gameplay dosent work out for me espacially when it comes to fighting turn based RPG games. So how come people still like the turn bassed action. Is it because you take turns attacking or what and dont tell me that it is because you can think ahead. In Tales of Symphonia you can just pause the game and then think before attacking same with Legend of Zelda. So why do people enjoy the turn bassed gameplay.

And dont bring board games into this either Im talking about a videogame. Ok I done ranting for now.

Genstru, people have answered your question, just not directly. People like Final Fantasy often because of the turn-based system and its intricacies, thus the conversation about the quality of turn-based systems.

As for me, I like the tactics element of a turn-based game. In a good game, it's a test of your mind and ability to plan ahead or take advantage of your opponent's weaknesses. It is unfortunate, though, that so many games often rely on "level grinding" in order to be played. That is one thing I like about most games in the Final Fantasy series; they're often designed with a greater level of balance, so that it's possible to beat the game without the need to do lengthy runs of extraneous battles.

Also, I think that saying that turn-based games are obsolete because computers can handle real-time information now is as stupid as saying that button-based gameplay is obsolete because motion-sensing equipment exists now.

One of the reasons I like turn based games so much is because it's so damn hard to fuck up the control scheme. Bad controls are the most common thing to ruin a game for me, and since the controls on TB games are basically "Select Action With Joystick" it can't be fucked up.

People who think that turn based games are obsolete: You've clearly never played Valkyrie Profile, the king of all JRPGs

Heard of it, thought it looked good, but sadly haven't played it. What system was it for? I can't remember.

You can try to find the extremely rare and utterly expensive PS1 version, or buy the PSP version (Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth), which is what I have. There is also a sequel on the PS2, which is, while good, not nearly as amazing as the original.

I really want to know is if the game has a good replablity value.

Oh dear god no. Final Fantasy usually falls under play it, beat the secret bosses, beat the game, you're done, shelve it or trade it in. They almost universally have ZERO replay value whatsoever.

Rich, you couldn't be more wrong. I've replayed the Final Fantasys many times over and still think they are great. Just give it a bit of time between replays. And a game like Final Fantasy 10 has well over 100 hours of gameplay, so you don't need to keep replaying. I've had that game for so fucking long and I am still not finished with it.

And Final Fantasy 12 has been the worst in the numbered stories so far. Horribly generic characters, sickening graphics and a boring storyline and leveling up method. The battles seemed pointless out of the standard thing because you just stood around anyway. The only saving grace was the decent cutscenes. But you can't tell me that horrible jagged edges scrolling along the characters edges didn't suck. Final Fantasy 10 had better graphics.

I tend to think the FF series is waaaaaaaaay overrated though. Especially FF7.

It is overrated, but it is still a very good series which I have got a lot of enjoyment, and disappointment, from. I would probably recommend 6, 7 or 9 to be the best. Although 8 was very sexy too. Fuck it, PS1 for the win.
Please, please, you give me too little credit.
