The admins, mods, etc pick comics they have found to be very good and creative to showcase on the frontpage for a 'feature'.
And what i've found The comics usually fall into many of the following:
Great art
Funny/or
unique story
readable(text i mean)
plentiful updates
Comic has been here a while but not always
They rarely ever feature stick figure comics or anything shoddily drawn.
