I've no artistic pretensions here, I like big popular ones :)
My faves are:
Tiachovsky
Verdi
Stravinsky
Grieg
Prokofiev
Ravel
and Beethoven

...in that order pretty much. I never really liked Motzart though... and Wagner is a bit toooooooooo dense...

Who is your fave or faves?
Perhaps you have a greater artistic appreciation of them than I?

It's more or a rumour that anything though, because Wagner had about a million girlfriends and Ludwig was a little obsessive and dreamy...

Still I do have trouble remembering names of classical composers. I mostly remember the melodies, not the title and composer. There's this one song on my mind, a very famous one that a lot of people will recognize. It's very happy and I believe it's used in various family-comedies (the little Disney-like ones). I'll try to look up what it is, maybe I can find it on a CD somewhere :)

And I had to look up who composed 'Carol of the Bells'. I love that classical piece. Turns out Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych wrote it, don't know anything else of that guy so I can't call it a favorite but I love all the different adaptions to that song.

I like the dramatic, depressing ones...

Tchaikovsky (that's how ya spell it!)~ especially... the swan lake Act II opening song.. you know... the mournful one that brings to mind shadowy graveyards, vampires and biting winter winds... (or is that just for me?) and the Act III opening is a good song for the gym!! weird... ^^
I also like the Sleeping Beauty ballet, mostly the main song and the final song-- "Apotheosis"... it's so beautiful! It's like gilded aural ecstasy! (wow that can sound pervyish) and then it ends with blaring trumpets!

I also love Chopin... his stuff's good for when I'm feeling deep and existentialist. "Polonaise #6" is one of my very favorites.

Saint-Saens is frickin sweet too~~ especially... dammit what is the song called? it's from later in his career, and ...well it's pretty.

lessee... Ravel is awesome, my first symphony they played "La Mer" and "Bolero"..

Oh, and Gackt. ^________________________^! he-plays-classical-pianooo!

God, I don't understand why Tchaikovsky's so popular. I really can't stand him.

I'm a classical pianist, so, my list is kind of biased towards that.

I like Tchaikovsky because his music is really emotional. There's so much feeling behind it, in my opinion (I really have no basis for saying that, it's just how I feeeel) also, there's a part of the song from Swan Lake that sounds a lot like "Somewhere" from West Side Story... EXCEPT BETTER! ("huh?" you ask. "How could anyone even possibly dream of writing a better song than those on the WSS soundtrack?")
