A movie just wouldn't be the same if it didn't have the right kind of music backing it up. From John Williams' score in Star Wars to Juno Reactor/Don Davis dueling it out musically in the Matrix trilogy, what kinds of movie soundtracks and scores get your blood pumping and emotions high while watching a movie?

John Williams is probably my favorite. From Jaws to E.T. to Harry Potter, you can instantly recognize one of his songs. He puts you on a giddy emotional high and runs with it. ..."Duel of The Fates" from SW: Episode I is my favorite Williams score.

Conan the Barbarian.
-As I always say in these threads: Basil Poledouris's work on Conan the Barbarian. A beautiful score, the themes and the flavours of the music fit perfectly, and as it was largely (not all though) written during the principal photography and not after (as in most films), a lot of the scenes and action were set to his work rather than the other way around- so it fits even better :)

Run Loa Run (Lola Rennt)
-The Techno speed and German rap by Tom Tykwer and gang evoke the desperation and narrowed focus of the runner perfectly. It's driving and high energy... With the occasional reflective moments in Portent's "I Wish" and the ironically placed "What a Difference a Day Made" sung by Dinah Washington.

Dancer in the Dark.
-I think Bjork did a pretty good job on Trier 's movie here. It's funky, eerie, strangely fun, and sometimes sad. It goes along nicely with the fragile emotions of the damaged and lonely Selma, and due to the nature of the film it carried the entire thing.

I have always like the soundtrack to Akira and Moulin Rouge.

Right on with the Conan soundtrack.

I enjoyed the soundtrack to Serenity, Snatch, Last Action Hero, The Crow and I have a fondness for True Romance. Moulin Rouge is a good one too.

John Wiliams is my favorite composer of all time. Probably my all time favorite score is Superman.

Ah, I'm going to follow the crowd and say that John Williams ranks as quite possibly the greatest movie composer of all time. I would be completely unable to pick one of his movies as the best, in terms of music, although Raiders of the Lost Ark has some of my personal favorite Williams music.

But my favorite movie soundtrack ever? Easy. The theme to Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. Sure some of the music was hit-or-miss throughout, but that theme will stick with me forever. Simply brilliant.

WHAT?! Blasphemer! This is easily the greatest movie on the face of the planet! I demand that you should watch it again, possibly three times a year like I do, and this time make sure you have the good DVD copy, not one of the infernal VHS monstrosities.

Put my name down for the Lola Rennt soundtrack - it fits the movie so well it's marvelous. We watched it one afternoon in photography class, and the music stuck with me for the rest of the week.

I'd also like to nominate Spirited Away. Not only is it an awesome soundtrack in that it works so fantastically with the movie - it stands well on its own, too. In fact, I've got it running in iTunes right now (The Empty Restaurant has to be one of my favourite tracks ever). Joe Hisaishi is a pretty awesome composer - he's done the sountracks to Howl's Moving Castle, Nausicaa, My Neighbour Totoro and Princess Mononoke as well.

I think my favorite out of all of them, just to sit down and listen to from end to end, is The Natural by Randy Newman. My favorite composer, though, is James Newton Howard.

Others at the top of the list - K-PAX, Ocean's Eleven, The Truman Show, and The Sixth Sense.

My husband just bought The Science Fiction Album from the Prague Philharmonic off of iTunes. It's pretty good--has a lot of recognizable tunes in it. Battlestar Galactica, Back to the Future, Star Trek, etc.

Right now, I'd have to say my favorite movie soundtrack is Transformers: The Movie -- the 1986 animated movie.

Hell yes to the Raiders soundtrack. It's just one of those albums you can listen to and watch the movie play behind your eyes.

Love the Incredibles. Tarantino's Death proof , and Planet Terror are great. I know I have tons of soundtracks....but too early in the morning to activate that side of my bean.
