I'm not usually one to hang around in forums and talk but--

So gay comics (meaning lesbians, gays, yuri, yaoi etc) are everywhere on DD these days.

Don't get me wrong, I love it.

It just seems like yuri is always more popular than yaoi, but who knows, I don't wanna get into any fights here, man!

Just wanted to see what people's favorite's were! :3

Personally I think like Simply Sarah does an awesome job of making a girl on girl relationship seem very real.

And of course props to Plastic for the fantastic art and what not, dialouge is awesome too.

AND of course Lesbian Space Pirates too, god, doesn't everyone enjoy that comic I mean come on?

AND OF COURSE BLUE, I mean come'on, we all have a soft spot for Taka's amazing art and stories. Come on. COME ON MAN.

And in yaoi I always had a soft spot for Forest Dew which was this great shounen-ai-y type comic about these two boys, it was one-shot and fucking amazing.

A lot of good yaoi-comics were back in the day of when I first joined DD. So a lot are inactive and it's quite sad.

Misery's Child was a great one that was overlooked I think.

AND OF COURSE GET UP AND GO. People know I'm one of the HxC fans of that comic. You can find my comments trailed on every page and I'm doing a doujin (slowly) about it. It's a wonderful, if not a bit sterotypical but awesome yaoi comic.

There are a lot of wonderful straight comics out there too, I love those too.

WELL.

ENOUGH OF ME TALKING.

What are some of your favorite DrunkDuck gay comics of any kind?

Sorry for talking so much! Phew!

Until next time, DCS out.

(Can't believe I kept forgeting to put that nom. up...)

I suspect yuri is more popular than yaoi because it appeals to a wider range of people (straight and gay). I'm sure a lot of straight guys would still be uncomfortable at the thought of reading a yaoi comic, whereas straight girls don't seem to have the same prejudices against yuri.

Well, Simply Sarah just won the 2008 Best Overall Comic award here at DD, so I'm guessing that's going to be pretty high on most people's lists. It's certainly No.1 on mine!

I don't really like yuri, but I don't dislike it. Still, there aren't many yuri comics I read, but I found a few good ones I'm gonna sit and read someday soon. :3

Get Up and Go is great. I can't even describe why, it's just awesome.

As for not-on-this-website, I really like Honeydew Syndrome...as does everyone, and very well so. (Also I guess Metanoia and Goodbye Chains are kind of gay. And great.)

Yeah Honeydew Syndrom is one of my favorites, and Metanoia is awesome too.

@DAJB: Ya, I think you're right on that one.

Girls tend to be a little more open I think, but I also think yuri satisfies fanboys a lot.

And there certainly seems to be a lot of fanboys everywhere you go. *small laugh*

It's not a webcomic but my favorite gay comic is My Brain Hurts by Liz Bailie. Mostly for the fact that it's about misfit kids who are also gay. It's kind of hard to find but I think you can order it directly from Microcosm Publishing

Lesbian Pirates is one I started the other week. I like its style. XD It's totally like classic comics, but a lot more interesting.

More not-on-this-site: Pandect (been reading for a looong time, but it's not so gay-heavy), Khaos Komix (I only read about half of it...need to read the rest SOON), Satisfied?, Lexicon Punks. People need to update. ;x;

My comic has a gay themed space opera.

Khaos Komix is amazing. His art gets better and better.
I love http://www.spaceboiz.com , also a gay themed space opera, and it has lizard men. Not work safe.
Freefall Drift - A sci fi space opera of a starship's mission of stopping the Endless Kings.

I like all four of the comics you've mentioned: Simply Sarah, Blue, Lesbian Space Pirates and Plastic. I found some other ones I like too. There's Paranormal Activity, Sandstorm, Avieness, Queerasmus, Nicola and Belmondo and Empathy. I also like roy duncun's Villain Next Door.
think i'll fly the hell outta here!

Some of the ones already mentioned: LPFOS, N & B, Plastic.

Someone mentioned Khaos- I've got an ad on that one and keep meaning to go through the archives, but... lazy. Also need to go through the Yu+Me archives. But yeah, both those, too. :)

My very favoritest here on DD: Eve's Apple - it has a transgender/ transsex element that I feel is sadly underrepresented in webcomics (well, in all popular media, really). Great characters, snappy dialogue, and a really unique style.

I heartily second Eve's Apple - a wonderful work of art! Also a big fan of Simply Sarah ^.^

Nerdy Boy seems to be teetering on the edge of having some boy-boy relations, but I don't know just yet.

Offsite, I really enjoy YU+ME.

I'm ryu and walruses first time? Oh yeah B)

Believe it or not i don't read that many gay webcomics, simply sarah, juxtapose, and milk are the only ones i really keep up with. I read a crapload of print manga/gay themed comics though so maybe that's why.
As for yaoi i liked sensitive smile and pikasemechu.

It kind of irks me how yaoi or yuri comics tend to live in a world were the opposite sex either isn't there or is a complete asshole. Seriously i'd like to read a yuri were the straight(since most yuri makes them gay) guys act like normal guys and aren't abusive, or yaoi where the girls aren't insanely squealing over the gay seme or being materialistic snobs.
Yaoi is 10x worse at these tropes than yuri ever is though.xP

I've never really liked most gay comics. The last one I read was for the awards last year ( can't remember the name, it was a sketchy styled one though. ) and that one, while the art was constantly getting better, it just devolved into a lot of gay sex which gets pretty old pretty fast. The others I've read, I never finished because within the first 30 pages they started to follow that almost standard plotline or the story didn't hold my interest. About all I've seen that caught my attention in the genre was Skullbie's art because of how much it's improved since she first joined.

Never liked Yaoi that much...maybe didnt had read THE story yet...and yes, it could be that is kinda uncomfortable to me...

However, in the Yuri area, I had read both Simply Sarah and Plastic. Both fantastic stories. And that is weird in me since most of the times I DONT LIKE romantic comics/manga in general.

If yuri's most popular here, it's the opposite at SmackJeeves. It's like 60% of their content, beside Sonic sprite comics. Yuri has no chance there...

And like 95% of anything over there looks like, well, shit. I am not exaggerating.

I'm a HUGE yaoi fan. God knows that but not too bit on yuri. I'll read a comic or two but none of them really seem to do anything for me. I agree. Miserys Child was great and they got a bit into it but not too far. King me was really good as well but my overall fav yaoi web comic would have to be Pika*seme*chu on smackjeeves.com and wires 2 of course ^^

me neither but i've found a lot of them, really.

between the ones i usually read in the DD department are simply sarah, lesbian pirates, scarecrow lullaby,blue0,sandstorm,avieness,couterfeit,salt & peper, boobs ahoy, wires of course, etc.
in smackjeeves heard, milk, flaming destiny, my fake heart, my utopia, when she was bad, etc.
i read misfile, flipside, khaoskomix, .

but that's because i read far too many webcomics for my own good.

it's all RED STRING's fault, it was the very first webcomic i read.
regrets i've had a few but then again, too few to mention,
i did what i had to do and saw it through without exemption.
I planned each charted course; Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this, I did it my way.

Does Love and Rockets count as a gay comic? There are a lot of gay characters in it, but I don't consider homosexuality to be its defining theme.

But yeah, if it counts as a gay comic I'll pick that one.

That totally counts. Homosexuality doesn't have to be the defining theme in order for something to "qualify" as a gay comic. (I tend to dislike a lot of those, myself.) Just having non-straight characters who are prominent in the story makes it count. Love and Rockets, Strangers in Paradise, Y the Last Man. All of these have gay characters, and totally get counted.

honestly? I'm not a fan of Yuri, or Yaoi or Shounen ai or shojou ai and so on. Why? because theres hardly ever any substance theres a light story and then theres a huge gimmick "they're gay and its okay!" same reason I dislike all other comics that are shallow with some shitty gimmick "SONIC IS IN THIS!" .

As for the reason of why Yaoi is less popular it's pretty simple, there are far more straight girls willing to read yuri than there are straight guys willing to read Yaoi.

I've always thought it was funny that I preferred yaoi over yuri (given the general popularity of yuri and my being bi)....
Anyway, my favourite has always been King Me by xResalanx (http://www.drunkduck.com/King_Me/). Contradictory to Eddie's statement, there's plenty of story in it. I think the "gay thing" is actually a rather small part. But it's pulled off in a rather original way.

Plus, I did voicing in the radioplay of the comic....so I especially love this one. ^_^

oh man, let's hope I don't go into a Gravitation tirade...

webcomics-wise, I read this comic on smackjeeves that was awesome, I can't remember the name but it was about this chinese boy working in a factory in the west around, like, the 1890s or so... and love was starting to blossom between him and a shop-clerk. It was a great comic... unfortunately I didn't bookmark cause it looked like the author never updates.

Fun Home is a print comic that's about a girl whose father died and was apparently closeted... and her getting 'close' to him posthumously, because she's gay too. it was good.

Yaoi comics are a minor obsession of mine... although I love yuri too... (and hell, straight romances too!!!)

Gravitation is the best yaoi comic ever in my opinion. Shuichi Shindou falls desperately in love with a man named Eiri Yuki, who's basically just an asshole and is in love with a dead guy. Even though the comic takes some soap-operatic turns, and has some weird American stereotypes (all the americans carry giant guns, and there's some classic line where they're talking about rape and the american says, "People are put to death for lesser things in this country." haha...)

But Gravitation will always be my favorite manga, simply because the characters are so great. Sure, there's the standard seme-uke characteristics, but it doesn't seem like a cliche because the characters are real. And because the plot is so unfair.. Shuichi is so crazy about Yuki, and will do anything, ANYTHING for him, but it's definitely not reciprocated. It's almost like a horror-story... no one wants to be in that situation.

Also, it is one of the funniest comics ever. Some of Shuichi's reactions are just so great. He gets excited and just starts bleeding from everywhere, or turns into a scary wolfman... it's great. There's also a running joke of him trying to please his man by dressing up in a sailor fuku, but he ends up just looking like "a very ugly girl". haha!

i never really got into gay comics or manga, though i don't really think of myself as opposed, seeing as i like movies and books about gay romances. i think when i got into manga i got into a bunch that had genderswapping or crossdressing as a theme, like hana-kimi, kiss me kill me, etc. oh, you know i used to read this comic about a really emo gay kid and his sordid romances. i think this is it: http://scsc.smackjeeves.com/ or maybe the author did another one, but that was awhile ago. i'd be interested in picking up a new yaoi manga if it had a good story like gravitation's... maybe i'll try loveless..
