Got my con tickets, got my hotel room, and got my plane tickets. So I'm all set for Fan Expo Canada 2009 . I'll probably be spending quite a bit of time (and too much money) at Artists Alley but I'm waiting to see what panels and workshops they'll be having.

So, anyone else going?

I would love to go, but living in a place like Atlantic Canada is quite a drive, and I won't be able to attend since I have a choppy car and I recently got my license. Better get experienced first. :( Have fun, though!

Hey, I know this one's a year old, but I'm new to this whole forum thing and therefore am not the best at making new ones. Anyways I was just curious if anyone was going to fan expo this year? although the overwhelming response last year might be taken as a hint. I'm going to support my cousin who has a booth again this year so hey. Also what are these things like? I've never been to one before and as I'm going alone I don't exactly have someone to guide me through it

Hey Macattack,

I'll be going to Fan Expo again this year. Last year was my first year going so I'm no expert but if you have any specific questions I may be able to help.

Last year the crowd was larger than expected and they actually had to stop allowing people into the building on Saturday (it reached it's capacity). There was a lot of people lined up outside waiting to get in. So especially on Saturday, it's usually a good idea to get in early (and maybe bring food in with you because the food court will be crazy). And it's a good idea to mingle and make friends who can help you out because it's probably going to be fairly nuts and disorganized so others can definitely help. But there's a lot of fun to be had. You have the celebrities (though the lines for some will be pretty long), artist alley to mingle with pros and non-pros, a wide variety of merchandise, panels (that you'll have to line up for as well), sketching duels, and lots of gaming (electric, card, board, or whatever else). And of course there are the costumes. The 501st Legion (the Star Wars group is pretty fun to pose with.

Here was one of the line ups for Bruce Campbell's autograph and another for one of his photo ops (not the one I was in which may have been longer):
