Well turbans that size should hold something. Like a soda fountain. Or a television. They're really wasting an opportunity if all of that is just cloth.

I love the idea that along with the giant turbans and the expansive beards, these guys also all have a thing for weapons- like the massive turban makes them the most hardcore fighters ever... They're like living anime characters.

I would have figured that the love for pointy things just goes with the territory of being Sikh. But in that case, maybe the turban is an intentional handicap? You know, like the British army, trouncing around like a bunch of idiots wearing red wool in the middle of India. Maybe these guys just wanted to make it a fair fight for the Brits, so they came up with the most un-concealable headgear possible and it just stuck as a fashion statement.
