Ah, good old hack n' slash DW returns for PS3 and Xbox 360. With actual added new features. Swimming, climbing ladders, commanding siege engines, loads of new stuff. And all the characters have had a makeover, some look worse however (Lu Xun now has a single sword, Sun Shang now uses a bow instead of her twin chakram, Dian Wei using some bad Xu Zhu knock off weapon). Oh and Xiahou Dun looks emo. I think he doesn't look too bad, but the whole hair swept sideways thing, no.

They also appear to be cutting characters, which I don't understand at all. I mean, sure, they cut Fu Xi and Nu Wa in DW3, but they kept their weapon disciplines for character creation for the next games. They intend to cut Pang De, Zhu Rong, Meng Huo, Da Qiao, Jiang Wei, Xing Cai, among others.

Pang De I can understand, he had no real story and was merely introduced to Tong Gate for a friend for Ma Chao. His gameplay sucked too. Cutting Zhu Rong and Meng Huo means no more Nanman, hated those levels but I loved Zhu Rongs gameplay. Its a shame a whole segments going to be cut out. Da Qiao is being cut as Sun Ce's wife, but not her sister Xiao Qiao? Atleast finish the job Koei! And Jiang Wei has little no sense at all being cut considering he successes Zhuge Liang, Wu Zhang Plains will be interesting now when Zhuge dies, if he dies now that is. Xing Cai, feh, adopted daughter, like hell.

I believe Koei is trying for realism this time around, actually taking characters bios into account, so Shang Xiang having a bow fits as it mentions she was skilled at martial arts and archery from a young age. She also incorporates kicks and punches into her attacks. An interesting point to raise is Zhang He. He was never as feminine as he is portrayed, so will he have a complete makeover, weapon, voice? I bloody well hope not, be still my beating heart, Zhang He...

Hm, this is turning more into a rant, but oh well. The gameplay appears similar with the exception of being able to swim and climb and such. I can imagine it will add a whole new level a gameplay, the dangers of being drowned or falling while climbing. Standard Bearers (banner carriers) also appear now and seem to be a deciding factor in moral.

So far, I know little of character creation, I hope it is still kept and is much more maliable than the last, perhaps including disciplines of the cut characters? If not, I'm sure they will appear in DW6: Xtreme Legends anyway :p.

Aaaand thats all I know for now... Can't wait for it depsite some of the things I mentioned. :3
Also, Tsao Tsao not 'Cao Cao'. T_T

Never played 'em. In fact the ONLY game I remember playing by Koei (I could have played another one and not realized it, though) is Bladestorm. I liked Bladestorm though, so I suppose I might like this.

I have no IDEA how you're able to remember all those names, though.

You can't. Chinese names are not meant to be spoken or remembered in English. At least Japanese is spoken in noninflective syllables like European languages are, so some coolness factor is retained. Chinese sounds ASS in English.

And you didn't miss anything not playing DW. It's such complete bunk I don't know why it's so popular. Want to kill lots of bad guys, the LOTR hack n' slash games are 10x better. Or if you don't mind single player, the Devil May Cry series is 50x better (except 2).

If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times. They need to take the Mousou elements of Dynasty Warriors and the military strategy elements of Romance of the Three Kingdoms (which is based on the same material as the Dynasty Warrior's franchise) so that as a general you can create a military plan for the battle, and then step onto the battlefield and participate in the fight. THAT would be a game I'd be playing for years.

Seriously, there is no effort whatsoever put into the Dynasty Warriors series.

No plot, extremely repetitive, repeated and poorly constructed dialog, poor gameplay, poor graphics. The list goes on. It's only saving grace is the two player option, which you might get a few laughs from. But certainly not a games worth.

I can't even see how Dynasty Warriors can even constitute as a game, Koei need to rethink their purpose in life. I can't think of a single half decent game thats been made by them.

Bladestorm? Pfft.
Gundam Warriors? Vomit.
Fatal Inertia? Haha, oh wow. Wipeout anyone?
Please, please, you give me too little credit.

Dynasty warriors is a good game but I suggest that you play kessen 2 as you can control an army instead of running into a big battle yourself , plus there's magic.

I admit to Dynasty Warriors as a sort of guilty pleasure. Playing it, I know that there's little to no difference between characters, the extent of the strategy is to make sure to kill the archers first so they don't shoot you in the back of the head while you're annihilating everything else in sight, and the historical accuracy is laughable at best. Still, there's something ultimately satisfying about riding into a crowd of dudes on a horse and just sending bodies flying jerkily through the air. It's also surprisingly challenging at times, though largely it's in very shallow ways (such as the level with the geysers that are hard to see that occasionally blast your ass).

Look you don't need all that stuff to have an enjoyable gaming experience. All you have to know is that there like thousands of enemies there, heres a sword. Go to work. Slashing and hacking through hundreds of enemies does get old. I mean if you want a challenge, fight Lu Bu. Then think that the game takes no strategy. Dynasty Warriors is awesome to me.

I find The series a good stress reliever, and believe me, I need one. I love going into an enemy camp and having roughly 50 people surround you. You completely slay everyone there, and hardly a dent done to your health.
I wonder how someone convinced me to go outside. I have a sunburn now. :'(

Why do people expect there to be a tactical element in these games? If you want tactics, that's what games like Dynasty Tactics and Romance of the Three Kingdoms are made for. The Dynasty Warriors games are supposed to be action oriented. The only tactics they need is for you to formulate a plan on how to best wipe out every enemy on the map without losing your generals to their own stupidity.

No plot It's ancient Chinese history. We can't drive cars through helicopters.
repeated and poorly constructed dialog Can't argue with that.
poor graphics Never played 5? Ever?.

Then you've never played one. Romance of the Three Kingdoms? DW5? Kessen? Samurai Warriors? La Pucelle Tactics? Phantom Brave? Makai Kingdom? Atelier Iris? GITAROO MAN!?

I've always liked those magic card things. if you play right, you only lose health to archers, and even then they don't last long

La Pucelle Tactics? Phantom Brave? Makai Kingdom? Atelier Iris? GITAROO MAN!?

And what do those have to do with Koei? La Pucelle, Phantom Brave, and Makai Kingdom were all made by Nippon Ichi. In fact, they weren't even published by Koei either here or in Japan. Atelier Iris was made by Gust (and once again, Koei had nothing to do with even publishing this game) and Gitaroo Man was made by Inis (the same company that made Elite Beat Agents) and was only published by Koei.
