What ever happened to the categories like funniest drunkducker, most helpful drunkducker, etc?

Hippie van it was decided they should be dropped.
They are really hard to judge.
For example- Most helpful drunk ducker.
Loads of people have helped me around here but 90% of the help was done in PQ so any potential judges wont be aware of it.
Effectively judging those categories is just "which of these five people do the judges like best?" which makes the whole award pretty meaningless.
Awards are now focused purely on comic related things that can be more objectively judged and discussed.

I thought the drunk ducker ones were decided solely by vote? But I could be wrong.

I think we should have an award for most modest drunk ducker.

It was discussed in the planning stages. Seemed pretty popular to remove them. Maybe next year we can add them back if there is enough demand! Sorry for the let down.

That's fine, it's not a big deal to me either way. I was just curious.

You could always just make one yourself and give it to someone you like.
That's how I got this one in the signature.

Well I decided to take extra precaution that I couldn't win it by flying to JustNoPoints house and smashing his fingers with a monkey wrench so that he couldn't possibly get on a computer to let me know if I won or not (sorry Just, nothing personal)

Dropping the Drunkducker awards was not a good idea in my humble opinion. What was a fun contest that gave the impression of being open to all DD users, has now become something entirely more po-faced. :(

I think we should include them as well. They were some of the more fun awards, and add to a sense that it's a community thing and about all the great people who contribute to the community -- not just about the products they produce. (And about readers the readers too.)

I was sad that a few people wanted to drop them, but I don't think it was a majority.

I definitely second or third or fourth any motion to bring them back (or make up some new ones) next year.

There were more vocal about them being removed when it was being discussed. :/

Seriously, that is the opposite of the spirit of these things. They are playful prizes like a grade school costume contest. No "first place" just scariest, silliest, most colorful, must furry... (anyone remember those "contests?" ).

Again, that can't work. Because these aren't judged awards. These simply must be by peers. (In other words, a DD-wide popular vote.)

If I was to give out the awards, I'd be necessarily limited to the people I know. Therefore, not of favoritism but just by my own sphere of familiarity, most of the awards would end up going to people comment on my comics.

On second thought, maybe that IS a good idea.

In all seriousness, since it doesn't require a round of judging, maybe JNP can set up another ballot for a few DDer awards for this year's competition. Having them separate from the comic awards and kept in a playful mood might be enough to satisfy people who wanted them removed.

We could combine all the winners in a single presentation if we want. (I can't remember if the complaint was that they upstaged the comic awards, but if it was, that might be a solution.)
