Haven't talked about Dr Who in a while have we? Jeebus that used to be a great show. The golden years were definitely the 70's and 80's for it, and Tom Baker IS The Doctor.

I have to say I hate the new series. I really do. The short length of each episode takes away all the suspense and development. I'll take crappy models and costumes over budget price CG animation ANY day, and the new shows are just so plastic looking and kid friendly that it reminds me of Neighbours crossed with the Power Rangers.

But then I only watched a few episodes with the leather jacket guy whose always pulling faces and the short girl with the gigantic head and huge fish-lips before I stopped watching for good. It might have gotten better, but it didn't look like it was going to (I'd tend to doubt it as well), and I just couldn't stand much more kiddy Scifi.

I rate it marginally better than Enterprise, and not even as good as something as stale as Babylon 5.

What're your opinions? Am I wrong?

I still watch it to see how many actors I recognize from the Harry Potter movies.

I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove the new series... don't hate me!

I haven't seen that much of the old series tough, what I saw was better but the new episodes are still fantastic! Deliciously over-the-top, with loads of humor and melodrama and still imaginative stories.

Yeah, I'm really loving the new series. I did like Eccleson more in his "ninth doctor" role than Tennant in the "Tenth doctor" role, but I still think he does a great job.

Despite my love of sci fi, I've never really been able to get "in" to a science fiction show. Never cared about Star Trek, didn't give a rat's ass about who or what went in or out of a Star Gate, and whatever number the Babylon was was no difference to me.

But there's just sort of an energy and a life to Doctor Who that I've yet to see anywhere else. I hate to sound accusatory, Ozone, but you seem to be reacting as something of an overprotective fanboy. Granted the early episodes of the new series weren't as good as later fare, but I think in a way you're refusing to allow it to be good. Because in your mind, Tom Baker is The Doctor, and anyone else is just pretending. So by that logic, the new Doctor Who isn't Doctor Who at all, and thus it sucks. I dunno, maybe I'm reading you wrong and it's just not your cup of tea, but I think you should give it more of a chance and see what you think, because as far as I'm aware, it's the best sci fi show on television (or at the very least the only one I care about).

Heh, I don't think you're bad for watching and liking something that I don't like :)
It's just good to have a rant and a sounding off about these sorts of things from time to time ^^

I love the new series. I was a little leary at first, because the first episode, "Rose" and some other episodes from the Eccleston run were really stupid. But it seemed that once the show got its feet wet, it turned a corner for me. Eccleston was a great Doctor, but I think Tennant is even better.

The effects are usually really good, so I enjoy them too. I like the new look of the TARDIS, although, I have to say, I don't like the fact that you can see the police box doors from the inside of the TARDIS. That doesn't make any sense, because the 2 forms should be in different dimensions.

I really like the new format of the show. That's one thing I always hated on the older series, because the stories seemed either rushed or dragged out to fit the 1/2 hour. And I saw them commercial fee, 5 nights a week. I wouldn't have been able to handle commercialized 1/2 hour episodes once a week.

The updated theme by Murray Gold is fantastic. The incidental music is soooo much better than the old series, too. I just watched "Rise of the Cybermen" and "Age of steel" and the background music was great!

All in all, I'm pretty hooked!

You can pretty much find all of the new episodes on youtube, so I have been catching up there. ;)

If only the box sets weren't so expensive. $100 for 12 episodes is just as bad as HBO pricing. Plus the season 1 box set doesn't even include the Christmas episode which the BBC counted as part of season 1, but scifi held back until season 2.

Yeah, the new Dr. Who series rules. I was sorry to see Christopher Eccleston go, but David "Barty Crouch Junior" Tennant turned out to be just as great. I'm really going to miss Billie Piper.

The Torchwood spinoff is so-so. Capt. Jack is cool enough to carry the show though. The Sarah Jane Adventures has potential too.

I thought I was going to hate "The Runaway Bride", but that turned out good too. I like the idea of yearly Dr. Who Christmas specials. And the previews for season 3 look awesome.

I've only seen T. Baker, Davidson, Eccleston, and Tennant, for the most part. I hear Troughton was a really great Doctor. From what I hear, he kind of set the precident for other incarnations to follow. I really would have liked to have seen that series. Too bad they were mostly all destroyed, from what I hear.

I saw some Pertwee episodes, and didn't care for him at all. Same can be said for C. Baker and McCoy, from what I saw.

McGann did a great job as the Doctor. Too bad the movie had so many bad things going for it (poor writing, bad cast (Eric Roberts???), bad supporting cast, over the top acting from said cast, and set in San Fransisco? Just... No.). Great job on the theme for the movie, though. I would have liked to see an entire McGann series, but since the movie sucked so hard, there was no interest I guess. A shame, really.

The radio series made by Big Finish Productions for the BBC had the McGann doctor. I really liked that, they made it in a more oldschool style...

The first fellow is more of "The Professor" than The Doctor. A distant, crotchety old man.

Some Troughton's were pretty good. I think he just brought the Doctor down from his high horse a bit. The old guy before him was way too aloof and disinterested, Troughton made him a bit more human. But Troughton's doctor also had a mean fiery temper that made Colin Baker's doctor look positively well balanced! -I've seen a few of these episodes.

Pertwee wasn't bad. They had some good episodes with UNIT and The Brigadier. The main fault with him was all the gadgets.

Tom Baker defined the role forever with his cavalier, Laugh-in-the-face-of-ANY-danger, attitude. Completely irreverent to everyone and able to get out of tricky situations with silly extra long scarf contrived ways or daring heroics. Yup, he was the best.

Davidson was a lovely man... just loveable really. Nice in a sort of old fashioned English way.

Colin Baker was a little bit crazy and nasty. I did enjoy what I saw of his series though (which is only a couple of shows :( )

McCoy was great. Such a cool little jazzy fellow... A bit preachy sometimes though, but mostly he was a funky little guy.

Then the sucky movie with McGann that I blanked from my memory.

Then Mr Eccy and fishlips Piper. That's the last I saw
