Just watching this movie all over again while I finish up on my latest Pinky TA page.
Man, it's even funnier the second time! (or is it the third... can't recall)
Anyway, the time theory stuff just seems silly and understandable rather than confusing, but what's good is the the emulation of the late 80's and all the great performances by the actors in those roles!
I think that's what's best about the film now. Good editing and music as well, and the CG elements don't try to emulate reality (poorly), they're doing the job of showing something you can't do (without great difficulty) any other way.
So yes, on further viewing this film seems best not for its story or its plot, which are unusual but not really that clever, but for all the other aspects including the humour and satire which are exceptional. -At least in my opinion.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this or am I all alone? :)

I liked the movie alot but it was a lot to take in, as far as the metaphors and what not. I suppose I would've liked a clearer explanation on what was real and what wasn't. Plus, I'm not even sure why Drew Barrymore was in the movie. She's cool, but the character didn't really add to anything.

Any movie with an evil looking bunny suit is good in my opinion. :D
I'd still really love that costume for Halloween...

All those pre-teens who had this movie on their MySpace movie list ruined it for me.
I like it and own it... but it's not on my MySpace movie list.

I hate the preteen thing too. They're just trying to be part of the cult following and try to be deep and sound bizarre by telling you it's something they watch all the time. Which in reality reminds me a lot of the Nightmare Before Christmas craze lately. I was a diehard fan of that movie when I was what... 4 or 5? Also reminds me of Clerks too. That has a pretty good range of people following it around like lost dogs and they're so caught up with the popularity of these movies that they can't really see what's wrong with them.
But as far as Donnie Darko goes, I liked it. I didn't love it, but I liked it a lot. The dinner table scene is worth the movie though. It really is. :)

alboneGood question. Um...because of "cellar door"? That's really the only thing she contributed plot-wise, anyway. :/
Plus, I'm not even sure why Drew Barrymore was in the movie.

God, it's been forever since i've watched Donnie Darko.
Mostly because i know it's just going to make me feel gut-wrenchingly melancholy by the end. I even feel empathy for Swayze's creepy pedo character, who has to ultimately live with his secret dark shame.

as with all cult films there is a niche of people who really enjoy those movies.
I really enjoyed both of those films and could go into great detail but alot of what has been detailed really already outlines what I liked about the film.
For me I wish there was a bigger ah-ha moment at the end instead of the panning to each person in their lonliness and pain.
correct me if I am wrong...which I probably am, but wasn't that REM song "Everbody Hurts" playing during that sequence? it seemed a bit funny in that way, if I remember it correctly.

It was a cover of the Tears for Fears song "Mad World." Please, "Everybody Hurts" wishes it could be half as suicidally depressing as that song.
Boondock Saints and Donnie Darko definately fall into that niche catagory films, either you think it's brillant or your scratching your head trying to figure out why anyone would like it.

I've seen Donnie Darko and I can't say I enjoyed it much. Other than the rabbit which was absolutely weird :D
But other than that... hmm, didn't like the music (guess I don't like REM), didn't seem appropriate to me. The whole timetravel/loop thing was confusing, although that might have been because I wasn't that much into the movie. I don't remember any of the actors from the movie, other than Patrick Swayze and that asian girl that was rather bad at english...
I guess it just didn't click with me since usually I love weird movies.

I liked it, I have to see the directors cut before I give a final judgement on it.
over all it was a pretty cool flick.
BONUS: watching Patrick Swaze commit Career Suicide.
