Maus is furry? Well I suppose you could look at it that way...
*ponders this idea*
I still think this will be most peoples impression of the phrase furry though-

I recently did a Google search for Lucky Dawg and found it made a few furry lists. Caught me by surprise at first, but then I thought about and it made sense.
Maybe choosing anthropomorphic characters is a conscious choice on the artists part to make it look different. Seeing as most Furry seem to be in a manga-esque style, the chances are that most of the human faces will end up being the same. I've seen a lot of published mangas that tend to fall into the trap fo basically having the same characters and jsut adding extra clothing or different hair to try and make it look different.
Drawing your characters as animals can be a way of making your comic look distinctive amongst the glut of other manga-themed comics.
Do cat eared people count as furry? I never think they do. The just act like people wearing ears.
I get slightly disturbed by the role play groups that like to pretend they're wolves, and make their own little social structure with submissive/aggressive body language in their characters, who other wise have human conversations.
Furry in my oppinion is an antromorphic character with human like proportions and characteristics, which rules out Mickey and the crew because their preportions are cartoony, and I've seen certain antromorphics where the characters look more like animals facially than humans in which case I also don't count them as furries.
