I swas sulfing the internet and found an article that the greatest hero of Korea, Shun Shin Lee, was made as comic in USA. Does anyone know Onrie Kompan?
Is he famous or unknown?
(By the way, Shun Shin Lee is famous for never loosing a battle. Even with just 13 ships against 100 ships.)

Pretty awesome for me.

I've never heard of that artist, that warrior, or this comic, but it totally looks worth checking out.
God needed the Devil, the Beatles needed the Rolling Stones, Hakoshen needs me.
I'm the enemy he requires to define him.
Soon or later, he'll bring me back to life again for another epic encounter of shouting about power levels and grimacing.

Huh, an English comic in the USA, about some ancient Korean warrior dude? LOL??!

Whoever is publishing this comic, they are pretty brave! An English comic about a Korean, hahahaahahahahaha I can't get over it!

The only Eastern people with any chance of attracting English comics readers are the Japanese. Or the Huns/Mongols/whatever barbarians who actually ass-kicked Europeans in the past. Or Bruce Lee.

"You are 50 years too early, Korean boy!"

Edit a few days later:
Ahem, okay, I might have sounded insulting to Koreans. It's just that... this is as if you started a comic in the US about soccer. Actually even that comic might get better attention since soccer is becoming a little more mainstream in the States.

And on top of that... a historical fiction comic! I've never heard that genre get anywhere in the US.

You might have been in a big trouble if you said that in front of Koreans.
That was like saying about Nelson in front of British
like that.

Reason why he became a hero is because he stopped the invasion of Japanse army.

I found hs record that made him a hero:

Okpo battle:
Korean Caualty: 2 injured
Japan Casualty:46 ship, 2,400 death

Sacheon Batle:
Korean Casualty: 11 Death
Japan Casualty: 67 ship, 10,120 death

Hansando battle:
Korean Casualty: 3 injured
Japan casualty: 70 ship, 8,980 death, only 400 soldiers manage to escape

Angolpho battle:
Korean Casualty: 19 death
Japan Casualty: 40 ship, 1,800 death

Busan Battle:
Korean Casualty: 6 death
Japan Casualty: 130 ship, 33780 death

Myeong Ran Battle
(13 Korean Ship Vs 330 Japanese Ship)
Korean Casualty: 11 death
Japanse Casualty: 29 ships sunked, 133 shipscritically destroyed

No-Ryang Battle
(Aginst all the Japanese army retreating from Korea)
Korean Casualty: 200 death (Icluding himself)
Japanese Casualty: 300 ships, 50,000 death

Last Will: Don't tell our soldiers I'm death till the battle is over

Petty a hero.
Of corse you're right Hisory comic never work ot well.
But till,I'm glad someone made a comic about that guy

Miai you seriously gotta think before you type, but that aside this looks pretty awesome we don't get enough historical fiction stuff in the states and the little that we do is generally a bit sub par. I'll try to check this out soon thanks for the heads up for real.

Historical fiction is pretty interesting imo. The League of Extraordinary Gentleman got its own movie, so it must be kind of popular.

Eastern people make a lot of interesting thing that attract me. Like cars. And robots.
Read this comic. It is the greatest journal comic ever written and drawn. Trust me.

The only thing that really bugs me about comics similar to this one is the odd drawing style. It's usually photo realistic or hyper realistic to me a comic like that would be more interesting in a less realistic style. Like the story told in the style of Cheeks or Yamino

That is LMAO true. You just know that this comic would have more readers if Yi Soon Shin is drawn as a bishounen with long flowing blue hair hanging down to his buttocks, dressed in garish armour out of Dynasty Warriors.

I think that's it: One big problem with historical fiction comics is that they're drawn in too unpopular a style (for contemporary times). You have to draw the comics in a way that doesn't remind the readers that they're reading a textbook. The best historical fiction novels do just that (with words).

What would happen if he was drawn like that:

1.One guy who know english would post it on a communitiy site,DC Inside.

2.Some retarded reporters would make a news article about that.
(By the way, they're dump enough to write an article that contain every details of how to do a teen prostitution.)

3.Some people will get pissed.

4.The Cogals (Comedy Program Gallery Users) and Makgals (Mak-Jang(Extream Madness) Gallery user) from DC Inside declears a war.
(Those two Gals are worst Internet users in Korea.)

5.They create an army consist of few hackers and few hundred thousands wormbrains.

6.They decide a D-Day (Usually on a National Holiday not celebrated by other countries to prevent return fire)

7.On D-Day, Wormbrains goes in the official site and start to press F4 key repeatly.

8.This over-saturate the capability of the Site's server and the site close down.

9.If any servers are left or recovered, Hackers immediately order an attack to that server

10.It continues until the site's owner surrender (That mean the comic won't be publsihed)

11.They proudly write it down like some kind of epic

This did happened when few Japanese said bad thing about Korean figure skater, Kim Yun Ah.(It was more intense because Japanese counterattacked and planted spies)

I don't think that would be a good idea.

Oh, Wasn't 300 pretty a sucess???

Well yes, 300 was a success, but it has a distinct style and while it tries to be all "art Gritty" like Frank Miller likes it, it does not look photo realistic.

I cannot say I would be happy with Korea if they did something like that, as long as the comic was respectfully done I do not think the style of it should really matter. Good writing and good art would do nothing but make this sort of comic awesome.
I mean, I do not think all of Buddhism went crazy when Tezuka made "Buddha" it was totally stylized, gorgeous and respectful while still having a fun story all could enjoy.

Yeah, basically a dramatization of history. Make everything bigger and badder. Make everyone prettier. Make every woman a hot babe. If there are no women, throw some in. Make sure they know kung fu. Make sure everyone knows kung fu.

After all, do you think King Leonidas (of 300) ever jumped 10 feet into the air to slice off heads of mounted horsemen before he lands? Do you think there was actually a hunchback betraying him? That Xerxes was an 8-ft-tall piercing gallery riding into war on a golden pyramid carried by 100 slaves?

As long as it's an obvious dramatization which reflects the Korean personage positively... I don't think Koreans would object to Yi Soon Shin being a handsome hero who can kick ass, romance women, and outwit his enemies.

Do it japan style and genderbend all the male characters into hot high school girls with enormous boobs. :)

Actually, That's how he won.

He made Turtle Boat.

This boat was designed to break the enemy line and destroy the enemy command ship usng heavy firepower.

Actally, I never really liked Japanese manga with big eyes, weird hair color and ect. Of Course I like some of the artist like Miazaki Hayao (I don't think there's anyone who hate him).
