I was running through awkwardzombie.com and I found this:

I also tend to find myself doing this. I was wondering If any of you guys also have this habit. Or some other similar habit whilst drawing.

Sometimes I try to copy the pose as well.

Not while I'm drawing, but I do this when I'm reading, especially if I'm really into a book. Once I even bleated when I was reading a part about sheep. I didn't realize I had done it until my family members who were in the car with my at the time all turned around to look at me strangely.

I become the drawing. That's why I decided to stick with computer programs to draw for me.
I am so happy to finally be back home

I do it when I'm not paying attention. Then I realize that I'm doing it. Then I keep doing it.

I used to also make noises when I drew, kind of mumbling dialog and sound effects. Not as much anymore, though.

Yep.
Rori - I do that too. I try to hold that back though so my sisters don't think I'm going psychotic. XD

I can't really say I have any weird habits when I'm drawing... Or, at least, I don't think I do... o_o

I only end up making the faces if I'm having trouble bringing the expression out of my head and putting it onto paper.

All the time, even when I'm not drawing. Occasionaly in public, I try not to, but sometimes it's just a reflex.

I do that all the time! Some times though I'll also do the same pose I am drawing like tilting the head to the side or getting so into the character your body language changes into what I imagine my characters body language to be. From being more timid or acting out his or her compulsive behavior but I really have to be into it.
Sorry, but your sig image is too large physically AND filesize (1MB?!) - please see this thread for guidelines. skoolmunkee

Absolutely!
Because I teach how to draw cartoons I try to control it a bit in my classes.
I have known some cartoonists to position various mirrors around their workspace to help them capture expression. So don't worry about it... if people know you are a cartoonist they already know you're wierd.

... You mean there are people who don't do this? I don't really know why I do it - maybe it's to "feel" the expression as I draw it - but lately, I've been drawing a lot of frown-y characters. My mother thinks I'm depressed. :P

I don't think I do that. Haven't noticed it anyway, so most likely not.

Also, great comic, haha.

Wow, she sits the same way I do when I'm at the computer!
but yes, I do believe I mentioned something to the same effect on one of my comic pages before DD exploded in '05, since I did a page very much inspired by this embarrassing habit. Good to know I'm not the only weirdo ^_^

Does anyone sketch in the same mood as a character too? Like your character's angry so you draw all furiously? I break more pencil tips that way... and I find I do this thing with the keyboard and dialogue too. Guess I get too into it, youse know.

Never. Because I'm Asian while most of my characters are Caucasian. Our subtle expressions don't correspond. Seriously... well, IMO.

In fact, when I'm having trouble drawing specific expressions I've been advised to act in a mirror - it doesn't work for me. :p

I do pose in front of the mirror to capture musculature, shadows, and foreshortening... both male and female postures.

Thankfully I don't have female clothing handy, so I can't don female clothing in order to even more accurately 'reference' certain female poses. If I actually had female clothing around, I know I would've eventually done it.

Wow... Considering the amazing exaggerations in Manga... I never thought of that. o_O

(and no, I'm not doing that expression right now. Bt I am doing this one--> :) )

lol!
That would be ok with your comic I suppose, but not mine... Well, I did actually buy a pair of Army boots, army pants and the same belt Pinky has, but that was when it was still a painting series and I really did need reference.
Not for the under-things though :P

I'm probably one of the rare people who don't do that. Then again, maybe all I need is a little time, who knows?
But what I do do, with both comic and story characters... When trying to think of how a certain character should act and whatnot, I make myself act a bit like them. I talk how I imagine they talk; if they have an accent, I try to mimic said accent. If they use lots of slang, I do too. For a while, at least.

I doubt I do. Frankly, nearly all of my facial drawings have similar expressions one way or another, regardless of my mood.

But all I draw is emotionless killing machines, so I can't know for sure.

I mostly just flare my nostrils.
I use to make the expressions though. Dunno if I do it anymore. :o

But yeah, I flare my nostrils when I get really concentrated on a picture.
