going away - Comic Discussion (Print & Web!)
Do you use the drunkduck search engine to search for comics?

I'm not sure where to put this topic so I just put this here since its related to webcomics.
Do you search by genre or last update or do you enter keywords? How are your searching habits?
Oh... and speaking of genres, I think there has to be a "drama" genre and multiple genre designations for 1 comic (2 or 3 at best). Also I dont think "manga" is a genre but it is a STYLE of art.

When I'm browsing, I almost always just search by "most recent update". I don't usually filter by genre, except I'll be honest: I usually browse with sprite comics deselected. :/ I don't normally use keywords unless I'm looking for a specific comic, in which case I just type in the name of the comic (or as much of it as I know, rather).

Nope, the way I find new comics is by looking at my fellow DD'ers recommendations.

Yes. I've saved a set of search parameters into my favourites and I search by most recent update.
Since DD doesn't have a slot to draw attention to new comics, I find that's the best way to catch them.

Here we go. Notice sprite comic is unselected :D I also only check recently updated in a week and anything with 10 pages or more because that's when 90% of the comics get good.
I used to unselect Manga but I noticed that there's quite a bit of comics labeled as manga that are really good and I ended up missing them because of that. I used to only have one favorite as of 5 months ago (Gunnerkrigg Court) but last week I finally decided to use the search function and look what happened.
And I only got up to comics with 50 pages before I quit!
Other than that, the best way for me to read a comic besides searching is having a cool signature. The cooler looking it is, the more likely I'll click on it... but sometimes I just click on PLAIN TEXT signatures because the best comics usually have the plainest signatures.

I forgot to mention in the first post... that I type in keywords to search for comics. Because if I just search by last update, I see those comics with less than 10 pages... or comics that generally wont interest me even if they got superb art.

That's why you have that handy recently updated section. What exactly does keywords search for? Does it search for actual words in your title, or certain phrases that pop up continuously in your comments or author comment box. If all your searching is a word, you have to be pretty vague to find anything more than a specific handful of comics. Looking at my favorites list, I can't find a single comic really that shares more than one word with another... and that's like the letter "THE".

*hugs angry_blank_guy for fav'ing SCD* 8D
I use the search feature every once in a while to try and find things that rocked my socks that I forgot to fav. Unfortunately either I have the memory of goldfish or I can't work search because I almost never find the comic again.

I tested it and it searches through the COMIC DESCRIPTION and TITLE as well. Try it.
Some keywords I type: angel, devil, angst, fight, Sometimes I use the plural form like "angels". Sometimes I enter the author's name... sometimes I enter a word from the comic name if I cant remember the exact title of a comic.
It isnt case sensitive but it gets picky with words. For instance, when you type "kyupol" it recognizes it but when you type "kyu" or "pol" it wont pick up "kyupol".

Interesting...
I don't use the homepage feature, so if I want lots of hits I should enter in my description KAWAI, NA-DA, VORE, CRAVING, CONTROL, ANGEL, DEMON, HENTAI, ANIME, MANGA, SEX, BOOB, ASS, TITS, TIT, BLOOD, POKEMON, PENIS (maybe not so much penis), DEATH, DECAPITATE, YAOI, SHONEN, LOLI, JHONEN VASQUEZ, and YURI???
I like the sound of this keyword search feature!

It might gain you an initial spike... but after awhile it might not work if your comic actually doesnt feature those stuff.
And besides, Not too many people like to use the search engine. They probably would if it was RIGHT THERE SMACK DAB in the center of the drunkduck.com homepage like its google.com or something.
Thats just my 2 cents... lol

I used to use the search engine, but I found it was easier to visit the comics of forum posters and then visit their Fav's and the Fav's Fav's and so on.
Find out what George is up to:

For some stupid reason this has never occurred to me (until now).
