this is a question that I inner-debate all the time, should I post the fanarts I get?
I like the idea of giving the artist some exposure, as a way of thanking them for drawing my characters... but does posting fanart interrupt the flow of a comic?
or am I overthinking this?

I made a supplementary page for them. I was thinking I could leave a note in the comments/notes section (maybe even a thumbnail). I don't want to post non-story pages at all. I think it's a personal preference, though. A little filler is kinda fun.

I wouldn't post them in the comic itself. Quite a lot of people aren't really interested in looking at fan art, especially when they're trying to read a comic, and if the fan art is posted right in the middle of all the pages, it's quite an annoying break-up in the story. (Of course, that's mostly story strips and not gag-a-day comics, but the idea still applies to both.) I know it's exciting to get fan art and people want to show it off, but I personally just don't like to have to flip through ten pages of fan art when I'm trying to read the comic.
Like usedbooks said, I would (and am planning to at some point) make a supplimentary page for people to look at when they want to see it, with links back to the artists. You can also link to the fan artist's page in your commentary for some exposure for them.

I don't put mine up in the strip. I have a page for it.

That isn't all the fanart I've ever recieved. It needs updating. If I'd put all that IN the comic it would mess up the flow like crazy. Same as why I don't put filler art in.
The exposure one is a good point, but looking at the fanart I've been sent, most of it is from artists who's comics are already more widely read than mine anyway!

If I got fanart I'd just make a separate page for it and post about it in my newsposts whenever I got a new one. Personally I dislike posting anything in my comic that isn't a comic.
Alternatively, you could save up the fanart and post them all at once in between chapters, sort of like how some graphic novels have fanart in the back. It would still break the flow some, but not as badly as if every other page were a guest art.

I have art days but I only leave them up for that day and then I move them to an archive. They really do interrupt the flow of the story. I like to post them between chapters in books though along with guest strips. Those can be a nice change of pace.

I post my created fanart for others at my DA site. It's up to the people I give them to if they want to post it up on their main site or not.
Fanart given to me... I don't know if I need a filler I'll post it up for a day or two.

Heh, I WISH I got fanart. That is like the ultimate testimates to the popularity of your comic. When people actually like your comic enough that THEY are drawing YOUR characters that YOU created... That is so cool.
If I ever get any fanart. I'm SO posting it. It might interrupt the flow of my comic. But I think as long as you update enough consitently that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Heh, I dunno, maybe if I was more computer literate I could just put together an HTML page for Fanart and then load it up onto my homepage.

We have a forum for HTML questions, if you ever want to ask for advice, a simple template page, or links to tutorials. HTML is pretty simple, I taught myself it in about three days aged 17, and it's been useful ever since!
I was lucky for fanart because I started out on 'Hyper-comix.com', which is a small webcomic community, not as swanky as DD, but very close-knit. We draw each other a lot of fanart for fun.

Thanks, maybe someday if my comic is ever actually popular enough for someone to want to do fanart. I'll look into that.

if you go to the fanart thread in Art & Literature Corner, people are making fanart like it's going out of style. Sign up there, draw some pictures, and you'll definitely get some fanart.

I don't get fanart. :(
Click this link and watch out for people open for fanart trades. There's at least 1 person who's open for trades.

There's also MAX (Multi Artist Exchange), which I've found to be awesome so far.

Hmph. I *totaly* mis-parsed the subject sentence for this thread. I thought you were asking 'do you post the fanart you draw for other people's comics' as opposed to 'do you post the fanast you receive for your comic.' I suppose I can be forgiven for this mis-assumption, as I have never received fanart, but have drawn a little.
The answer to the question I thought was being asked is, if the artist hasn't asked for fanart (a contest, a filler strip week, whatever) I'm gonna be too shy to message them with a 'hey, look what I drew!' and there's *no way* I'd post art of someone else's characters without their permission or knowledge (on my devi-art account, or as filler for my own strip, for instance) so the fanart will languish in a sketchbook until said sketchbook is eventually packed up in a box with the other full sketchbooks. The occasional fan-arts I have submitted for others I have so far posted in deviant art with a link to the original comic, and then sent the artist/author of the comic a link to the deviant-site. If they like it, they can download the art from there and then post it on their own site (or not, whatever) and if they don't, I'll take it down. (I usually do after a while anyway, if I haven't gotten some sort of an a-okay from the original artist/author)
If I *were* given fanart, I'd probably find a way to post it on a side page (as per the html tutorials mentioned in previous posts, I suppose) or I'd put them up on the weekends (I update MTWRF, leaving saturday and sunday open). In fact, I had once thought it would be amusing to sponser 'fan-service sundays/saturdays,' wherein fans would do me the service of drawing a weekend gag strip so I could have a day off. (There was a keenspace comic, which I now forget the name of, which had fan comics on the weekeds for a while, wherein fans would take old strips out of the archives and then re-text them. It was hilarious after I realized what was going on and stopped thinking the weekend strips were in-continuity.) But this plan was forestalled by my aforsaid lack of ever receiving fanart.
Which pretty much sums up my two cents.
