Hehe. I like this topic. I wanna hear people's dirty secrets and sordid fantasies!
As for me: Uh, I don't think so. They'd be more like drinkin' buddies. ;)
Also, it sorta weirds me out (just a tad) when anyone calls one of 'em "hot" or "cute" or whatever. Especially when I didn't necessarily intend to draw the character as "attractive". I mean, it's flattering in an odd way; but it's kinda like someone saying they want to bang my little brother. (Who is 25, and married, and not little. But still.)

Considering my characters are all dudes. And I'm straight, we'd probably end up being really good friends.

I am definitely a fangirl of my story but not really individual characters. I am fond enough of them, that it actually causes me a bit of grief when one of them is in pain, sad, or dies. I wish I wasn't so unhealthily attached to them. I act out scenes from different points of view and become a weeping, angry, ecstatic mess.
I am swayed by my friends' fangirl-ism. A couple characters are based loosely on them, so their reactions to characters sometimes sways the way I take them. One character I invented as a love interest, but my roommate didn't have much reaction to him (while she did react to a minor character -- and asked about him), so I brought the bit player forward and altered the role of the other guy. My other friend kept saying a villain I made up was sexy, so I couldn't kill him off and ended up having him become more of a protagonist.
I sometimes write plotlines that are almost fanfiction of my own universe... The scenarios *I* want to see are what I write. (I am guilty of designing entire story arcs around a costume idea. -- But it meshes seamlessly into the cannon, so it's fine. ;) )
Some of my characters have appeared in my dreams, but never in a "romance" way or even a major role. They are usually in the background. (DrunkDuck creators and their creations make more appearances, btw.)

When I 1st made up Fenny and Sally in school when I was 16 of course Fenny and Sally were made to look and act like girls I would be interested in.
But over the years I have changed their looks (mostly Sally) and especially changed their personalities. I'm not sure I would want to be friends with either of the girls let alone try to imagine a relation.
There are a few guy characters later on I find particularly "cool". And there are women later I wouldn't mind to be real. But I try not to give too many "perfect mate" qualities to any main characters I could be attracted to.
It makes the characters really boring and bland, in my experience, if they are just a figurehead of your desires. They can't grow, adapt, or change. And tend to have a unified answer to every situation (well a girl I would like would say "THIS" here)
Bah, free will. It makes the characters so much better. But they normally do things that you'd choke them for in real life ^_^
Used Books... You're making a reality show webcomic? Okay not at all... but still. It's funny how real life can rewrite your stories sometimes. (I got a whole new story from the recent girl I was dating :P) Not angsty 'I promise'

JustNoPointI'm not so easily swayed. ;) They don't call the shots or anything. Let's just call them a source of inspiration. If I'm stumped for story direction, a conversation with my friends with spark something that leads me.

I agree. I would totally hang out with most of the protagonists in my story, even date them (I mean, they are protagonists. They are supposed to be at least somewhat likable. ;) ), but I didn't design any as an extension of personal fantasy. "Perfect men" are kinda boring or a little annoying whether in stories or real life, because we are comforted by everyone else having flaws, as we do.
I actually do have a "perfect man" in my story (rich, compassionate, attractive, intelligent), but he's a minor character. He is "perfect" for a reason, to contrast a rival love interest and cause conflict. -- Oh, and one of my most devious villains is also nearly perfect. He always has the perfect answers for everything. He is designed so that all of society finds him likable, and only his cohorts, a few enemies, and the readers know his dark side.

I 'fangirl' over Jack more than any of the other characters I suppose. I draw him a lot and....yes, I would SO do a real life him. lol! As for wanting to live with him though....F#@% THAT! That would mean dealing with the crazy that is Jack, as well as the crazy that is Orlock more than likely. Hardly my ideal fantasy world.
I'd be more likely to date his human self, the one without the vampness and madness-inducing trauma. XD

I obsess over my comics and characters, constantly thinking of new situations and updating my plot, but I wouldn't say I fangirl over them.
I honestly think I wouldn't be able to tolerate my character if I met him in real life.
I might get along with the female character in my comic, but probably not the main male character.

I wouldn't say I fan over them. I most definitely have favourites on occasion. Then I get tired of those ones, and move onto another character.
In reality, I think we'd kind of get along since I put tidbits of my friends, family and my own personality in them (and then expand from there). I'd most definitely not hug and/or glomp most of them, I'd get a face full of fist...or no face at all.
But yes, when it comes to being a fangirl/fanboy over my characters, naww.
Also, it sorta weirds me out (just a tad) when anyone calls one of 'em "hot" or "cute" or whatever. Especially when I didn't necessarily intend to draw the character as "attractive".
That happened to me once. Someone told me that Doug was hot and I was like "Woah, are you serious?" It was odd. Especially since I don't go for prettiness in my characters anymore and more for variety.

I'll put it like this.
Recently, I had a dream about Ahab from Arachnid Goddess. She was at a computer typing. On the side, AIM was up.
I typed from wherever I was if she would like to talk.
With a disinterested expression, she wrote back 'No.' and kept at whatever she was typing otherwise. So even my own character doesn't like me.
Maybe it's a total sum life experience with women transference thing. :(

"You tell yourself to just
enjoy the process," he added. "That whether you succeed or fail, win or
lose, it will be fine. You pretend to be Zen. You adopt detachment, and
ironic humor, while secretly praying for a miracle."

A majority of my favorite characters are either mentally unstable or outright jerks, or some combination of the two. So if I were to see one in real life, I would probably make like a lamp and get the hell outta there.

Well, all my protagonists are crazy, so I'd fit in well with them. Add to the fact that one's an attractive female nudist and I think it's clear I'd hang out with them.
But as for being a total fanboy, nah. I'm a fan of my work (Though not really a fan of my art) but I'm not like that.

What a fun topic - yes! Yes, I fangirl out over my own characters all the time. I just love them so much ^.^ I think if I ever met a guy like Cade in real life, my life would never be the same.
Though, realistically speaking, I don't think I'd actually be friends with any of them. Except maybe Brio - and even then, I don't know that I'd have much respect for him. Heh.

Thing is we actually know our own characters way too well. So it's easy for us to say that we wouldn't hang out or want to be closer.
IRL we wouldn't know their mentality inside and out. We would only see what they'd let us see. So it's hard to say if you think about it.
I'm sure I'd find Fenny hot but she probably wouldn't give me any notice. Heck, most of the way she acts is inspired by the really intimidating super attractive girls I've come across.
And Sally is too shy to make new friends. I'd probably treat her like a kid which wouldn't help things. Or she's be one of those people you kinda try to not get around.
I think I could be friends with my male protagonist that's coming in issue 8. I don't really have much variety right now though, since I seemed to have aged while my females stayed young, it probably wouldn't be in my better interest to hang around them now :P
As for regular fanboying... yeah... I love all my characters to death and generally try to sort out my own problems at times by trying to use their varied outlooks to see things differently.

I do think about my characters quite a bit but mostly in a "how can I make their lives worse?" sort of way.
With that said I'd have some mixed feelings if I somehow did meet them in real life. I can't say that I'd actually want to befriend them either-- the fact that I'm that much older than most of them makes it seem kind of creepy.

Oh I'd love to meet a girl who was like Pinky...
But not the woman herself, or any of my characters. Ugh. They're all idiots. They'd be boring as hell. I know, I created them. They're all very dull, one dimensional people.
Pinky has a great arse. A reeeeaaaallly great arse, but what would I talk about with her? "oh, your bum looks good... Ummm, so you're in the army? I bet that's nice."
-no I don't! I know exactly how it is for her because I created the whole thing! Man, it'd be like talking to a retarded version of myself. That goes for all my characters.

That's especially creepy when I hear it about my characters. They might be human analogs, but they're chewing gum! Who would do a piece of chewing gum?
I might hang out with some of the more minor characters, but the ones I used as main characters for a while ( Can't really say I truly have main characters. ) are essentially modeled off of parts of the major human psyche. They're those little demons inside all of our heads to one degree or another. The side characters who only ever appear once or twice are just meant to be anyone so I could probably find them interesting.

I dunno but in my opinion, these are my female characters who I think are LTR (long term relationship) material.
- Claudita
- Mara-Nina (maybe. Around 90% yes and 10% no)
- Liana (she's a little psycho though)
The rest of em are probably only good as friends or one night stands.
Same here. But at the same time though, I treat it as a compliment.
So far, these are the characters whom people (both online and I personally know) thought are "hot":
GUYS
Eman Cruz from MAG-ISA
Ron-Ron from KATROPA
Jose Penafrancia from MAG-ISA
Cedrick from Brood Knight
GALS
- technically ALL OF EM. lol!

Mine kind of straddles the line, as the characters are ALL, save the blind, nameless girl, based on real people. The only ones I'd want to glomp all over are the ones who I'd really want to do that to in real life. Now, if I appeared before me, oh, the fun we would have! We'd go out, get wasted, play video games, get into fights, and I'd send his punk ass to work for me, take his lightsaber and sell it to a weapons contracting company for 30 billion dollars. Ah, good times.
God needed the Devil, the Beatles needed the Rolling Stones, Hakoshen needs me.
I'm the enemy he requires to define him.
Soon or later, he'll bring me back to life again for another epic encounter of shouting about power levels and grimacing.

Not in the sense of being attracted to them but there are a few characters I am a fan of. The closest to that is I'll say to myself "hey they look good here."
I also do not, as with other comics, fantasize about them being real but if I didn't create them I would probably make fansites and wiki pages of some of my characters. I mean I'm a fan enough to draw them right?
