Do you edit pages after you post them?

Once a page is posted, if you notice a minor error or small detail wrong, do you do back and repost it?
I've done that loads of times so far with my comic, especially when there are tiny tiny mistakes that niggle at me.
Do other people leave em once they are done, or constantly revise after the fact?

Yes, if there's something that is definitely not right in the update. Or I post the wrong page (without the text) when I'm half asleep in the morning *GRIN*

I replaced couple of pages due to some mistakes, but it's been always stuff that I caught AFTER uploading the page but BEFORE it went live. That reminds me, I need to switch one page that I couldn't cause drunkduck refused to let me send the changes.

I haven't been replacing pages that went live though.

At this point what you see is the old version though. Every page has been relettered and edited for print (decided to switch to a smaller format, had to widen the bleed areas on and consequently had to reletter everything as after resizing the fonts dropped to 4.5 points, which I think is too tiny).

I'm still thinking whether to replace it with that version or not.

Absolutely harkovast. I did just that this morning in fact. I decided to resize my latest page from 800 to 650 pixels. Obviously I should have done this before posting the page, but 'would have, should have, and didn't think of it in time,' applies here. It applies in my case most of the time.

I'm still in the 'knocking the rust off' phase of my return to cartooning and I'm relearning some of the tricks of the trade that I had down pat the year before. I'm up to page seven now, I think, and so far have deleted the entire strip once in order to perform a strip name change and have reworked at least five of the pages -- after having posted them -- at least one time.

I hope to make the reworking a much more rare event in the future, once I regain my 'bag of tricks' cartooning skills.

To give your questions a fair response, though, in the future I'm far more likely to let a niggling little error slide since I will probably be sticking to a frequent posting/uploading schedule and I don't want to risk wiping out what few comments I get along the way.

Unless I totally delete a page and re-upload it... it seems if I upload a new image-- even re-named, the old one will still show up. So once live, no. But before hand, yeah, I catch errors and whatnot.

Or, I can do like what I did last night, and not set the date, delete it, and then upload it again still forgetting to set the date.

d'oh!

But yeah, there are typos and stuff that have gone live... that got corrected when the comics went to print, but remain online.

I only do it if, looking back, the characters now seem hideously distorted. I've only done this with three of my strips so far, though.

I correct typos I find both before and after a page goes live. I'm pretty much always the first one to check my page once it's live. (I do so to check that the page as well as my author notes read properly.)

Two times I have gone back to a page and made significant changes (altered entire parts of dialogue) because it was apparent by the reader comments that the page wasn't as clear as I had intended. When I do this, I make note in the author notes of the changed page (in this format: "EDIT (date): notes" ) and in the author notes of the most recent update, so I can be sure my readers will see the change.

Well, since I do everything on paper I just don't bother changing anything. If I make a mistake, I roll with it but I'm very meticulous about not making mistakes!

So consider this your first no.

I change thingson pages that have been up for weeks if I see something I dont like. Often it is just tiny changes no one would notice, like if you look at the top of page two, I've fixed a bit at the top of the first white line dividing up the page.
Obviously, that is just for my peace of mind rather then that anyone complains or cares.

I'll correct even the most minute mistakes. Areas I forgot to fill in, things I forgot to draw completely, typoes...
They really bug me. I'm trying to forget things less though.

Yes indeedy,in fact even when I find mistakes in my old pages that have been live since 2006 (and perhaps 2004 before the crash) I feel compelled to to fix it, because I feel foolish! 99% of the time it's a spelling error (not that I'm a bad speller, I am usually texting my comic after sitting nearly 12 hours straight in the same spot and words like "apoligize" look like they are spelled right to me at the time...) I also used to have a bad habit of typing "becuase", which I was aware I was doing but STILL kept doing it by accident. If it's a painfully bad art mistake like an arm being longer than another I can't help fix that, but that only happened once and I've kicked my butt about it ever since. When people point out mistakes or make good suggestions I will fix them too, especially if people say it's confusing the way I have it originally. Thankfully, my husband helps me out with that and he's not afraid to tell me when something is hard to read.

I feel stupid now though because I just read this thread before I updated my comic and I let not one, but 2 mistakes slip past me! Somehow my text was set to "align center" and since I was feeling sleepy, I just figured the text engine was being wonky again and didn't look into it, so I made a spelling error and forgot to cap an "I" so I had to do an edit today.

I think the worst was when one time I uploaded a page and forgot that I'd saved the version without text first and uploaded that instead. Oops! And this was when I had dialup and had to wait nearly five minutes for things to load, and I was nearly pulling out my hair over that!

However I'm not going to fix super-old pages too much, I like to be honest about how absolutely awful my art used to be.

@Amelius

What editing program are you using? :) If you have adobe photoshop or illustrator you can highlight the text, then right click and select 'spell check'. I learned they had this the hard way -_- But you're lucky to have fans that will edit it for you lol

Anyhow I make small changes no one will notice just like Harkovast. For 'big' changes there were complaints about how fat i was making my characters, so i tried to skinny them up. Now I watch it and make them around average size.

I gots the photoshop! Hehe, yeah I completely forgot about that, but I think that's because my computer used to throw a fit when I checked spelling with PS and I lost a few pages in the past thanks to it freezing, so I've been a little bit cowardly about using it.
Thanks for reminding me! It should not be a problem now considering I'm not using a crappy computer anymore. I feel kinda silly because it's like RIGHT THERE when I paste text with right-click, but because I had so much trouble with it in the past it was practically invisible to me until you pointed it out. Strange how the mind sees and does not see what it wants to sometimes!

I generally only do that for glaring errors -- like the graphic didn't upload correctly, or I find a painful typo or art/proportion/color mistake. But I will do it if it needs it. But that also means changing the file extension from JPG to JPEG or PNG, so it will be accepted by the DD mechanism...but at least that's possible. B)

Dueeast, I think they fixed that problem now since I just fixed a page today without changing the extension ^_^ It may appear unfixed on the actual page, you just have to refresh the image and it should be alright, since mine appeared in the editor as replaced but on the live page it looked wrong still despite my posting a comment after I edited it. I refreshed it and the fixes were there however. ^_^
If it's a browser problem though I'm not sure what to say!

YES. I definitely re-upload pages if I notice a mistake.

If you put up a page with a noticeable typo on it, 90% of your comments will be, "Hey, you spelled ________ wrong" or some unfunny joke about the typo, rather than helpful or interesting feedback.

So I take care of those things as quickly as possible.

I'll redo for ANYTHING.
Even if it is not really a mistake but just a bit of colouring I think I could do better, I'll be in there.
I agree with Amelius, I just feel stupid until I fix it.

If there's a really glaring error, I'll replace the page.
Most of the time though, I revise and edit all the pages but only use them for the print versions. I always fix up the colouring, dialogue is usually different and some other things are all changed to look better for the print version.

There are small clean-up/sharpening edits (or maybe even a few redraws) I'm going to do for a bunch of my pages later on, but those will only be seen in their print versions, if I manage to make them. :D (Hopefully I'll only have to do this for the prologues, too, since the actual main comics will be executed a little differently...)

I fixed a dialogue typo on my current page and then reloaded it. I was a bit nervous about it because I was afraid that I would wipe out my comments. Last year the DD system was so wonky that I WOULD have lost the comment. But everything went just fine for me. Life is good.
