Warren Ellis: so I got this phone call from Joe Quesada and it was just the sound of him rubbing himself with money and now I am confused

lol.
Disney probably just saw into the huge money making potential the movies have, rather than the actual nerd-bait comics. I doubt that part will be changed, but who knows what'll happen to the movies.

According to Disney they bought Marvel because they were rapidly loosing the 8-12 year old male demographic. Disney had become Princesses, Tinker Bell and Hana Montana to most little boys and they were not buying into the Disney name brand nor purchasing Disney products as they got older as their parents had done. Disney said they purchased Marvel to retake said demographic and to pull young boys into the Disney stores where they'll hopefully buy a Spiderman doll and maybe a classic Micky T-shirt.

Apparently kids where associating Kingdom Hearts more closely with Final Fantasy then Disney.

Definitely a turd marrying a turd as far as I'm concerned. I doubt Disney will interfere much with Marvel's comic publishing (they're clearly in this for the movie properties), and if they do, I hope they use their weight to put Diamond out of business. If that happens, I'm officially a Disney fan.

I think this is a good move for the most part.

With the added funding coming from Disney, Marvel won't have to worry about the huge bills that they've accumulated over years caused by making the movies they've made (yes, they've still managed to make a profit, but only because they've had to sacrifice overseas licensing to acquire a large portion of the funding for the films).

With Disney's money, they can continue to make the comics they do without worrying about going bankrupt. Their name, like Pixar, will most likely stay in the fold since that's how everyone knows em anyways.

For more mature films such as Punisher, etc. Disney's brand Touchstone Pictures will more than likely be used to keep the Disney name from being tarnished. So, all in all, the transaction really just secures Marvel's ability to continue to work. But, only time is really gonna tell how successful the relationship will be.

If Disney buys walmart they will have total world domination. Disney owning Marvel feels like a shard of glass slicing into my testicles. Looks like the beginning of the end.

Wow. This is a first for me: a topic on a message board that is successful.

Anyway, it's too bad that DC is already owned by Warner Bros. because I know The Incredibles and Watchmen would be the perfect crossover.

I like how people think this is going to change anything at all.

"OH NO, IRON MAN WILL HAVE TO WEAR MICKEY MOUSE EARS AND FIGHT CRIME WITH GOOFIE - WORST IDEEEEEA EVERRR"

Listen to you neckbeards go.

oh my lord WHAT? i know the guy that drew that, khary. hes a great guy and a great artist. it was drawn for a gag and i think its an awesome pic. funny how its gotten all over the net so fast lol.

and as for things not changing...well...

http://cult-stuff.com/

scary...though this made me laugh

Someone
That leads us back to Joe Quesada who said just yesterday that nothing was changing. I guess he was wrong..

Lets remember this is the same Joe who insisted on calling DC AOL Comics, and alluding to there impotence as a company with a comparison to a Porn Star who cant get it up.

Well he is now owned by Disney I doubt he will be able to get away with half as much trash talking as an employee of Disney Comics, they frown on that sort of thing…. You see it works a little like this:

Forced labour of children in china for slave wages to make shitty mouse toys for western children = good

Swearing or making generally rude comments = Bad…

Welcome to Disney please bend over.

While I do think that there will be no major creative changes in Marvel, I do wonder if Disney will try to modify some sort of stories and characters in order to avoid bad publicity. Not that comics had any sort of massive media coverage (The biggest story in mainstream media was Captain America I death...), but I'm curious.

Will Spidey's deal with Mephisto will be reverted?
Will Wolvie stop smokig?
Will Penace have to stop being a self-mutilated emo?
Will Punisher stop being the Heroic Sociopath that he has being since the 90's?
Overall, will Marvel have to bend to the Disney'sP ractices & Standards?

Again, I do not think that Disney will try to change Marvel creative department, but I would like to now if it will affect certain stories.

Disney also owns Miramax Films and Touchstone Pictures. Have you guys ever seen the movies these studios put out? If they can have R-rated movies released, I doubt Disney will change too much of Marvel (and this is coming from someone who doesn't like Disney movies).
