I was feeling absolutely frustrated the other day. I couldn't write and I couldn't draw comics. So I turned to the one thing that's almost always been there for me when every other creative endeavor has been fruitless: portraiture.

When I first finished these up, I couldn't help but think it'd be fun to do a comic with this kind of rendering technique. I'd need to get some folks to play parts so I'd have good photo-references- but it'd be a fun exercise and my technical skill would probably be the better for it.

Just wanted to share. My productivity hasn't been up to par the past few days, so I needed to make what I've done count by showing it to people :)

By my standards those are unique and pretty interesting.

i'd have to say, don't use the airbrush tool/brush because it makes the forms undefined.

The light on dark is really interesting and nice, but I definitely agree that some harder edges where the light is cut off more sharply might improve the figures. For example, the hands on person #2 are fantastic, I can really feel the depth of his knuckles and the shadows that fall between his fingers, but some more definition could be what will make them look truly almost photographic.
