If you don't want to do that though, that's fine.

If other people want to do it, it's their call.

Actually no. Your post will be deleted whenever a mod sees the "clutter." This thread is #1 for posting about your updates (ONLY when you update) and why you like them and why others should read them. But commenting (no not empty compliments, useful criticism, etc. is also encouraged though no one has dome so in a while) is also part of it to ensure that someone has actually looked at the update.

A thread is not defined entirely by its title, btw. You should always read the first post to know what any thread is about...

(Oh, and it's also not about talking about your whole comic or "pimping" it. There is a whole board for that. That's part of the reason we incorporate actual commenting and interaction in this thread. Otherwise it would be a bunch of "ads" with no one paying attention to each other.)

Heh, I was trying to be diplomatic ;)

Which is why if you look back at every update for Wyrden, you'll see a useful or constructive comment that follows it. It's good to get a clarification though, thanks!

Now I'm gonna be quiet and let people get on with their updatings!

Yeah, we used to just say "skip them" but other good commenters ended up getting lost/forgotten/skipped by all the clutter of people who didn't want to follow the "rules" so posts were deleted.

(BTW, next person should be commenting on trevoramueller's post.)

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD READ THIS BEFORE POSTING

This is kind of a weird idea for a thread, but I figure it might be pretty fun. Hopefully it's under the right section of the forum, since it IS comic discussion.

Simply enough, when you update your comic, post in this thread with a link to the update, and let readers know what's special about your page, maybe some factoid or observation relating to it.. You want to get people interested in visiting your comic. This could be a good tool for people who want to learn to pitch their stuff to others.

So, anyone interested? It's just a weird enough idea to work.

Just remember, only post a link to your comic when your comic has actually updated. With any luck, this thread will get rather large with lots of fun commentary from people who want other people to see their work. You should take a look at the comic of the person who posts prior to you and give them some acknowledgment about the page. Such as commenting in the thread, or on their site.

So, I guess I'll go first.

My comic, Galactic Hub Serreven just updated. Why should you come check it out? Well, for starters, this update is the start of a new storyline and the return of the comic after it took a little detour to post a sample story of my comicbook challenge pitch. On top of that, for seven weeks I will be posting a character profile image in my author's notes every update. I'm using it to introduce readers to my comic Cosmic Dash, which will be returning to the web this October.

So, what about you?

This would be the first post in the thread. Am I misreading it? Because it seems fairly clear.

@$$hole now that's terrible aging. It's wasn't that strong of a punch but nice effort.

To Winterman: For me commenting is a way of showing that you've read the comic, it kind a gives the person some feedback. Plus you never know sometimes you might find some decent comics.

Attention

I talk about what a friend told me today...I'm not to confident of the page. I'm having a hard time making anything resembling a joke

I agree. But there's a whole thread devoted to that. Nobody's saying not to comment, only that it's not required in this thread because this thread is about updates and getting folks to take a look.

If you don't make a comment here, it doesn't mean you did something out of bounds.

I think its very clear. First and foremost you can only post IF you have recently updated. Then one would use this thread to advertise this. It's a good way for people like me, who is new to web comics, to learn to pitch their comic. But before you post you have to say something about the previously posted update. Pretty much what Usedbooks and Doctor Shadow have been saying.

That's my 2 cents anyway...

Back to topic:

Temple - Good page. I love the expressions and the touch of color with the blood. The only thing that bothers me is that the lady in the first panel seems to be missing her bottom half. By how her upper torso is positioned you should be able to see some of her legs or hips. But I really like the page a lot ^^

Asshole - I actually read this page earlier. I <3 this comic so much. I LOVE the expressions in the last panel ^^

*************

Beyond the Pale updates. Tokala takes on Din in a blade fight. Creepy smiles abound!

You should take a look at the comic of the person who posts prior to you and give them some acknowledgment about the page. Such as commenting in the thread, or on their site.

Acknowledgment is part of the point of this thread because we all want people to actually read our updates, don't we? Otherwise, like I said, it is just a list of ads (and with so many, they might not get seen) and becomes the same as the "Look What I Did" forum. (The ONLY place that general self-promotion is allowed.)

If you don't want to do things that way, then just don't post here.

(Go to the "Look What I Did" board if you just want to pimp your comic and not acknowledge other updates -- or to that other thread if you just want to give random compliments and not post about your specific updates.)

Part of the reason you might be confused is that these posts used to have MUCH more substance. Every reply contained a fairly detailed "story" behind an update, about a new technique someone was trying, difficulties capturing a certain subject, etc. (Rather that "Whee! I updated! Go see!) And also contained a comment to the previous person's update that was significant and useful -- not "generic compliment, now look at me"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And this thread is not a place for discussion, because it disrupts the whole workings of it. Every once in a while someone comes along and doesn't read the first post and needs a reminder, but it clutters things up terribly.
I hope a mod can clear this thread out some.
Ziffy88 got skipped, and kiandranishan likely will too, since I was bad and posted a "discussion" reply. :(
Is there a way to modify the topic header? It may be better if it said "Did you just update? Tell us about it (and say something nice about the last comic)" or something like that. That would eliminate a lot of confusion, I think.
Re: BTP - Yes, those ARE some creepy smiles, and they were well-drawn.
