Ooh, the smoother brush is a nice improvement from how you've been doing it before. The shading looks a little rushed though , and it could use a more defined light source. But I commend you on the use of the word "swanky." I love that word! ^_^ I kinda like your comic, actually. Yaaay.

Lexcore was updated and has a "SPLAT" sound effect. Because hearts removed from someone's body make splatting sounds when dropped . And I've been trying to draw in different persepectives. I think the last panel even made me a little disoriented when I was toning it cuz it's tilted. XD

I love the angles you use. The screen tone choices are also nice. Do you buy actual screen tone or do you just photoshop it in? The art is beautiful and the dialogue isn't half bad either. I particularly like the hand on the second panel. It's one of the best drawn hands I've ever seen and the whole comic has a very professional touch to it. To put it bluntly. Me likey.

DO1 just updated. My photoshop tasted death and apparently loved it so this page is the suck. Kinda like the last one. The text bubbles are colored because Adobe hates me with the passion of the Christ so I had to adapt. Anyways let me know what ya'll think and thanks to Kristen Gudsnuk for her crits. I tried a bit of cell shading on the receptionist since it all got screwed to hell anyways and I liked how that part turned out. If anyone knows of an easy way to cell shade without a tablet let me know all right?

Welcome to the academy of the 1337. Try not to get fragged.

I'm new to D01 so I might be stating the obvious here, but I like how the guy looks like Squall from FF7 - it's funny in the context of this episode. Which is quite funny, reminds me of me in my younger days. I hardly play video games today. The cel-shading on the receptionist looks fine, definitely something worth sticking to. The easiest way to do the shading without a tablet is the most primitive way - MS Paint. Yes, MS Paint. I use it myself for that all the time :) The colored speech bubbles look good, I actually wanted to use colored ones when I started my comic, but then chose to do elyptical and rectangular ones.

Aaanyway, a fun read :)

I just updated "A Bit Cheesy":

http://www.drunkduck.com/A_Bit_Cheesy/index.php?p=281131

and I'd like you to check it out because in this episode there is:
- romance
- jealousy
- despair
and last but not least
- pretty colors! :)

Fitz: Always liked your use of light and shadow. I guess thats something I could try studying as I'd be needing those in future chapters....

Anyway MAG-ISA has just updated.

Why check it out?
- Because prologue chapter has just completed.
- Prologue is about a US soldier who did a shooting rampage.
- If you like politics, conspiracies, social issues, angst, angel-devil stuff, drama, and action, this comic is for you.
NOW UPDATING!!!

@Kyupol- Very, very interesting page. I like how you broke the page down so you can talk about those "certain" things. The colour and the way it's drawn is also pretty cool.

2's A Company updated today. I think this is one is cool because I'm starting to do a profile thing that I'm going to be doing for the next several days (many days).

D0m, I didn't do yours because you didn't follow the rules... sorry.

@Priest_Revan
Nice profile. :) Anthropomorphized foxes are cute. They remind me of that animated Robin Hood movie. It's interesting that you intended Andy to be a cat originally.

Used Books starts a new chapter today. This page is in color, like all my "title pages." Not a particularly exciting page, the topics of conversation are jewelry and vigilante justice. This page is part of a very brief lull between violent episodes and is setting up a particularly crazy evening that will take 43 pages to tell.

Hey, yeah, I just updated my comic Shades .

All sorts of reasons why you should visit it - big themes, exciting action/adventure, sympathetic characters ... you know the kind of stuff! The latest page is one I particularly like. No super heroics or sword and sorcery (although both might yet feature at a later stage!) - just an example of how even ordinary characters can be thrust into the middle of an action sequence and keep you on the edge of your seat!

Plus, the artist (who's not me by the way) has drawn it soooo well!

************

Checked out the most recent page of Used Books. The only small suggestion I'd make on this is that "exposition pages" like this can be made more visually interesting if the characters are shown doing something while they exchange the relevant pieces of information. Other than that it was cool. I particularly liked the intertwining of casual, conversational elements with plot thread developments, so that the characters' personalities dictated the tone. Nice work.

Wow- You know, the amazing thing about DD is..well it's like an onion. No it's not stinky...it doesn't make your eyes water....it has layers. All these wonderful comics are just hidden and it takes a while to peel off each layer to get to the next to find them. SHADES is one of them. Well written...the artist is at his stride. What a pleasure it is to watch an artist grow. If you compare the beginning pages to the current post. Inspiring. I highly recommend. Well done gentlemen.
SoulDriver just updated yesterday..that's Wednesday. Frank has gone from dodging bullets and jumping rooftops to landing in grassy fields surrounded by butterflies and an annoying little kid. One who knows more than she says. 3 more pages until we end this chapter..SoulDriver is a horror, western, crime drama...Oh and a few bullets...or two!!

@Souldriver: Very cool page. It's always a bitch to make dialogue sequences interesting visually, but it's executed nicely here both through the page layout and the competent inking. Good use of black vs white to structure the page, too. Also, is that hand lettering I see? If so, it's utterly awesome.

Bulletproof actually updated yesterday, but I haven't posted about it yet. You should come see the new page because, umm... it features a semi-gratuitous shot of Whiplash, who is t3h sexx0rz and one of my favorite characters to draw. Har.

Oops. My bad. I TOTALLY missed the overal point of the thread. No dis to anyone, I promise.

Bulletproof seems like a solid read. A strong entry in the superhero genre. I like the color work best. I'm always impressed when qulity work can be maintained on a schedule (especially given that most of us are doing this in our spare time).

I updated Terran Sandz today. It's the last semi-happy moment for TS for the rest of the mini-series.

Why should you take a look? Well, I'm sorta biased, but I think its a fun, irreverent read. Fast-paced & unpredicable. I believe the art improves with every page. Heck, take a look, & let me know if I'm full of crap.

Later,
Chip
Creator of Terran Sandz and Broken Things , and now Dead . Check 'em out.

FIGHT 2 is updated today. It's kinda special because we've managed to overcome the end-of-chapter-procrastination hurdle and started on chapter 4, "Something Wicked."

FIGHT 2 is separated into 3 large story arcs. Ch.4 is the actiony climax of arc 1. It's huge, and it'll be good. As much as I like all the character-building before and after ch.4, this chapter is very pivotal and necessary.

I'm pretty good at choreographing action. Stick with me thru ch.4. :D
=======================================

Oh boy, I've been waiting to come after cs3ink.

But I'm going to Broken Things instead. Is that ok? :p

For the record, I think "Broken Things" is a better title. "Broken" sounds too much like another emo pop song. Maybe you should do a poll.

I really like the art style of BT. Kinda reminds me of Bradstreet and Miller and Mignola. I always like ppl who are capable of using lots of black; that's a skill. And the way you do it looks so professional. You're one of those guys that need to be Featured for the glory of the Duck, if you haven't been already.

And how do you speak hick so well? Writing accents is another skill I wish I have.

I love the layout of page 7. I love the way you shade grass, though I'm still not sure how you do it. I love the composition you achieve with only 3 colors. I love how your lanky teen looks like a lanky teen. I love the fender on p.22. I love the artsiness of p.25, 26, 27. I love panel 1 of p.36.

One question. What's with the girl on the left in p.39? Her face is a different skin color and half of her head is missing...

I like the chapter header on the updated page on FIGHT2, and skimmed through a few pages. I really like the art on there, but I have to say my favorite part was the very first page. Things that start like that are always bound to be epic. It looks like it has a very interesting and deep storyline (judging by the pages I read).

-----------------------
Well today I just updated Soda Bread (twice today) ending a three page short story. So why should you read it? Because it makes video game jokes without the use of sprites! And it's generally a silly comic with silly characters in it. Oh and it's in grey scale. So I guess that makes it artsy or something.

I'm Jon. You can call me Dr. Jon... but I prefer Jon since I'm not really a Doctor.

Irrumator updated today, with two pages because I was an idiot and missed an update yesterday. It has arrogance and a chronic case of butt cleavage. It's all good.

Soda Bread is pretty funny. The bad eighties hair made me giggle. Cute designs and incredibly silly humor. Gaming comics are a hard nut to crack but Soda Bread stands up well and is original with it's jokes, which isn't a small feat considering the genre.

@Priest Revan: As I tend to do when clicking on comics I haven't yet read, I checked out more than just your latest page. I have to say, as a brand new reader, it was very fortuitous that you're doing character bios. I totally appreciated that. (I liked the first comic with the gym teacher introducing himself, the punchline made me smile).

I just updated the ongoing adventures of Superchum , world's friendliest super hero. This week's installment takes a closer look at Baron Bad-Guy and I reveal why the Baron has it in for Superchum. This is something that I've never been able to explain in detail until this week, even though it's been part of my official 'backstory' since the early 1990s. I've got this whole man vs. machine, emotion vs. logic, kirk vs. spock thing going. Heck, I guess I was into Monkey vs. Robot before Monkey vs. Robot even existed!

Villainy Minor updated yesterday. You should read it because I've started writing humorous extra content in my writers notes in addition to the comic.

Anyway Hero By Night is cool for two reasons. Namely it is like reading two different stories. The episodes happening in the past have a Pulp Fiction sort of feel that remeinds me of things like the Shadow. The new stuff on the other hand reminds me more of, well more modern comics with a bit of "Adventure" style comics mixed in. It is a very interesting mix. The style uses both in writing & art to blend the two together. It is amazing how simply by changing small things like the lighting the two halves feel very different even though the art style is essentially the same. Similary with simply leaving out the eye pieces on the mask give the current HBN a very amaturish feel despite having the exact same costume.

The writing is solid and aimed at people who love comics. If you really look at the character while all original they seemed aim at capturing the essence of what made people love comics and cutting the fat which had built up over the years in the bloated mosters that are the DCU & Marvel Universe. The comic seems at points targeted towards a slightly younger crowd but never in a way that makes in unappealing or lame to adults and it certianly doesn't make the comic an overly censured never say die sort of comic.

The only draw back so far in the series is that the series is young and many of the charaters are still developing. The long backstory and history, which has often been a stregth of more 'main stream comics" however is not lacking as MBH already has its own mythos carefully crafted and recored in the journals giving it a rich back story to draw on even if we the readers don't know all the details of it yet.

Due East has updated -- and we're back to the regular plotline and characters now. In this page, an old matter is resolved between Crystal and her daughter, Brielle -- but something new threatens to divide them once again. And Sapphira confronts her father, Doug, about the upcoming wedding.

@ Superchum - This was a really excellent update! The art is very solid, colors are smooth, very appropriate for the script, too. The villain sort of looks like a cross between Galactus and Lex Luthor. Best quote: "But not even lunatics try to make friends with a giant destructive robot!"

@ Villany Minor - Solid anime-style art, great colors, funny punchline. I like the subtle humor as well as the line art.

Irrumator updated today, in a timely manner. We've got some sinister buildup today and for once, Scratch doesn't look like his eyes are going to pop from his skull.

I don't think I could get any further from Due East's target audience. With that in mind, the writing is decent although the pacing could be a little better in some spots. The black and white pencils are rather charming, I like those much better then the occasional colour page. It's a solid comic and certainly a high point in the genre.

Irrumator has a good style to it and the writing fits perfectly. Although in all honesty I've only read from about page 40 or so onwards. I like the guys obvious psychosis and although yaoi isn't my particular genre of interest I still love the sex and death. Although I am a little confused. Apparently he killed a baby and ate it cause he's a demon, but the stuff he was eating looked like demonic noodles. Was that to sort of sensor what was actually going on? Either way it looks good so far. I'll be going through the full archive once I get a moment and I'll probably edit in some more of my thoughts on it once I do.

DO1 updated again today. Was a late update sorta but neh. Anyways not much to say about it. I'm gradually turning to cell shading which becomes ever apparent in this page and um that's about it.

The only thing I noticed is a the jagged edges around the characters... it really makes them look as if they were pasted on top of a background.

Your latest strip is cute. I like the expressions a lot. Those eyes and fingers say so much. :) The shading looks good too, especially Omar's shirt.

@Priest_Revan (you beat me, fast poster!)
Another pretty profile picture, though a little large. (I'd like to see the whole thing at once.) Vegetarian wolf-dog. Interesting. An IQ of 300? Wow, so he has the thought power of someone three times his age?

I want to post a note about today's update for Used Books because it is one of my favorites. (Even though I have improved in terms of art since I drew it, I still love it.) It sounds the metaphorical starting whistle for a nice long story arc full of tension and violence. This page (286) contains hygiene, self-pity, and an unexpected visitor.

UsedBooks: The first thing I noticed about your comic is, that is has a really authentic manga panel set up. Which is something that is hard to come by. I also like the banter between characters.

------------

So today I updated Thompson Gunners and while today's update is just filler (albeit very interesting filler), The story has a strange setting, it's a Futuristic Western. (Think Desert Punk if you've ever seen it.)

------------

Speaking of Strange, I also updated Soda Bread today too. Today I took a crack at Resident Evil 4.

updated today? Nintendo Attack was MADE today.

why should you read it? sorta funny I guess... heck i'm the author so my opinion is slightly biased:\ I've been told that it reminds you of nintendo super squad, but not told why. I suppose it would be because it's got nearly the same character set...

Any way just read it. Tron commands it. You'll get what I mean if you read comic 4.

Irrumator updated today with an extra (as it does every weekend) that has very little to do with the story itself. It is pretty cool though and has surrealist imagery and bleeding eyes so do check it out.

Nintendo Attack could really benefit from darker scanning and more coherent art. I don't get the jokes but I'm not really sure if I'm -supposed- to.

Rusty Knight: Can't really comment on your latest update since it's not a page, but I think you should (and this goes out to everyone) avoid posting if it's not a real page, or just filler. Regardless, you were skipped for commenting, so I will comment on the page before your latest. While the costume to the character is nice, your art leaves a bit to be desired. I like westerns, I just wish you'd throw in some more details and vary your lineart a bit.

GHS updated just now. This update is some face time with ol' Greasy. I also updated with a bio for Brik, a space pirate in the upcoming Cosmic Dash comics. GHS recently won the Drunk Duck award for Best Sci-Fi comic, so hopefully I've earned it. :D

GHS: Visually this is probably my favorite page so far. Looks like you're trying to crank up the detail, and you've pulled it off nicely without losing the slick and focused feel of the art. Very nice work.

I can see why you've won it. You have this magnificent style which doesn't just stands out, it's on stilts! Your backgrounds are wonderfully done. However, there's something not quite right with the dialogue, although I can't put my finger on it. It just as - fluid - as I would like it to be. Or maybe I'm just being picky.

EDIT: Argh, I was pipped at the post during my reply. I'll check out Bulletproof as well.

Your skill in perspective is remarkable! The middle panel: HARDCORE. That's the only way I can describe it.

For Naive: Excellent depiction of motion and urgency. I love it how the angles and shots in each panel really convey the concentration but also determination she has in rescuing her friend. And she's really good with that flying roundhouse ;)

So I updated Wolf today (or rather very late yesterday). We see the villain in his full odious self in the page, and how the race against time has just been set again, as our heroes need to rescue what can be rescued before the villain does anything really rash ;) Go check it out! Also it is the start of my outside shots which are painstakingly done by me :)
