FOR THE LOVE OF GOD READ THIS BEFORE POSTING

This is kind of a weird idea for a thread, but I figure it might be pretty fun. Hopefully it's under the right section of the forum, since it IS comic discussion.

Simply enough, when you update your comic, post in this thread with a link to the update, and let readers know what's special about your page, maybe some factoid or observation relating to it.. You want to get people interested in visiting your comic. This could be a good tool for people who want to learn to pitch their stuff to others.

So, anyone interested? It's just a weird enough idea to work.

Just remember, only post a link to your comic when your comic has actually updated. With any luck, this thread will get rather large with lots of fun commentary from people who want other people to see their work. You should take a look at the comic of the person who posts prior to you and give them some acknowledgment about the page. Such as commenting in the thread, or on their site.

So, I guess I'll go first.

My comic, Galactic Hub Serreven just updated. Why should you come check it out? Well, for starters, this update is the start of a new storyline and the return of the comic after it took a little detour to post a sample story of my comicbook challenge pitch. On top of that, for seven weeks I will be posting a character profile image in my author's notes every update. I'm using it to introduce readers to my comic Cosmic Dash, which will be returning to the web this October.

So, what about you?

Todays penis page is page number 0134, and today being a Sunday means its a Sales Goblin page. This page has him meeting up with Scat Cat. Its just a classic Sales Goblin joke, he's in door to door sales but can never seem to make a sale. Its a rather funny page. Most Sales Goblin pages are of a similar formula to this one, so its a good intro to the character. Scat Cat isn't necessarily as vulgar in this appearance as he is in others.

I'll be sure and post in 24 when tomorrows page goes up, it will be Monday which means its Video Game Boxer day.

I'm halfway into a Valentine's Day chapter -- the first of two in this little story arc. (My comic is a series of shortish semi-self-contained episodes.) On today's page of Used Books , Seiko is opening the cards and gifts she received (the other two ladies opened theirs yesterday). One of those gifts is from her friend Tristan, and the last two panels are a mini-flashback to how he acquired it. I love flashbacks of the Verona children, so this page makes me smile.

Today's Bulletproof page actually only has normal people yelling at each other, but they're talking about the central ethical dilemma that lies at the comic's core.

Also, flip a few pages back to see a helicopter crashing into a monorail train if that's more your thing. And I'll have ninjas and stuff in a week. I mean, I'm just sayin'.

I propose that when you post here, you should also be required to look at and make (at least) a brief comment on the page of the poster above you. Reading any more than that latest page is optional.

FIGHT 1 has updated today. This is a good time to check out both FIGHT 1 and FIGHT 2, because they're both at 20-25 pages; long enough to see a plot but short enough not to be a headache to catch up on.

FIGHT 1 is at the start of chapter 4. Check out Flash's fancy survival bling, compared to poor Chase's lack of. F1 and F2 correlate very well thus far; completely accidental.

What is FIGHT? It's not high fantasy. It's not space opera. It's not superhero. It's quite unlike anything else you might stumble across. My banner below tells all.

@ Bulletproof:
Hey that's pretty good art! I had some I-don't-know-from-where impression that your art wasn't good, which is why I never clicked on your banner. (That, combined with my prejudice against superhero comics.)

But your art is even better with color! Especially because you know how to use CG. Why aren't all your pages in CG color?

Well, thanks, but... it just takes too long. This wasn't an easy decision for me because a lot of people say the coloring is my biggest strenght, and I would like Bulletproof to be in color, but it just isn't feasible. I update slowly as it is, and I'd be down to one page a week tops if I did it in color.

Plus I hate doing it. Coloring covers and pinups is fun, but with sequentials it's mostly is mind-numbingly boring and mechanical work. I got so burned out on coloring several times while I was doing issue 1 that the whole thing ended up taking over a year to complete.

Anyway, I looked at your last batch of pages for Fight 1, and it seems like your artist has made a sudden jump in terms of how he uses more black to structure his panels. Very nice - page 24 works particularly well. My suggestion would be to maybe invest in some elliptic templates or french curves for the word balloons. I like the hand lettering, but the balloons look a bit off.

Since we're now offfering feedback on the pages, anyone want to volunteer on mine?

I'll comment on Marine's and Usedbooks.

Marine: I like how you have certain characters on certain days. If I had a webcomic that I could do that with, I would. because that's a cool thing to look forward to.

Usedbooks: I love the thing about the claw machine there, I've always cherished a toy Godzilla I grabbed out of one. Those suckers are hard to win anything from.

Subcultured: You should link to the update. :P

Can't offer much more to say than I like it - you've got a very slick art style, good facial expressions and comedic timing, and the coloring's well done too. Totally faved because I want to see where you're going with this.

If I had a home AI like that I'd have deleted it and reinstalled another version a looooong time ago.

I thought you were going to use "tremendous" with another body part of Vid's, which would've gone with his ego. :p

Edit:
Well, it's Sunday night and I'm updating FIGHT 2 as well...

What is FIGHT 2? F2 is to F1 is like Aliens is to Alien: The sequel is prettier and rocks harder, but the original is the classic. So come look at F2 to see my prettiest. Then if you like what you see, start with F1.

F1 gets prettier later on as well, when both artists start getting more serious. But the early work has raw passion lol~!

Todays penis page is number 0135 and stars the Video Game Boxer. He discusses his thoughts on the game Blue Dragon, which is based on my research into the game on sources like game spot and ign, as well as having played the demo. Someone like him, "A video game boxer" would never be able to appreciate an RPG game. A video game boxer of course being someone who doesn't necessarily like games, they just play them and beat them for bragging rights or new achievement points.

To go with the theme of talking about what penis is for the uninformed:

I couldn't really begin to tell you what penis is. Its like its all over the place trying to be a million things at once. Its got campy melodramatic language, using unfunny and outragous situations, hacky & corny jokes, and has a consistent art style. New pages go up everyday, and as of about three weeks ago, different days of the week feature different characters now. Its been around the internet since June 28th, 2004 and is a pretty good read, I think. Its often done with a VERY tongue in cheek style, with the Steve Martin/Andy Kaufman style of horribly bad but actually funny and brilliant type of material. Its very much a low brow and can go into topics that can be seen as vulgar. Artistically the comic uses a minimal dadaism art style that uses the cliche of web comics of over cutting and pasting everything, often with comedic effect. Its very much a post modern and anatomically confusing art style. Its not uncommon to see arms bend and move in awkward positions that would normally be impossible.

I think mentioning it as a "A parody of bad web comics thats actually great," works for describing it. If that doesn't sell you on it, it hits just about every genre and cliche you can imagine. Subjects like, superheroes, horror, comedy, drama, westerns, sci fi, fantasy, abstract, and slice of life pages. Its always a crap shoot as to what you're going to get. It has been rated M by the Drunk Duck Administration Staff, which means it is not suitable for people who have not registered an account that says their over the age of thirteen. Its rated like this because of a several more extreme moments, that one group of people says are hilarious while another hates them and thinks their stupid. Because of my rating, I can reserve the right to have characters use profanity (which currently, only appears on Tuesdays) or any other extremes such as violence, sexual intercourse, political commentary from my stupid characters misinformed opinion, or even circus clowns. It is a darkly humorous world filled with winks and nudges towards pop culture, politics, and the farming industry. If you find you don't like todays page, try it again tomorrow. Or try it again in a week or a month, just don't give up on it after one try. Some people have told me it takes awhile for a person to "get it." You might find a character you like or a story arc that you find interesting. Its very much like a z-grade b movie, so its not really for everyone, but those that do like it say they love it. So I keep doing it.

That and its always funny to read when someone doesn't like it. They usually have bad grammar and spell worse than I do. I used to publicize my hate mail and flames that people sent me, but thats not necessarily professional: thats why Scott Kurtz does it after all.

Also I might mention that I have extra content on my website, such as the Vinhead page (which also updated with four new adventures today) which stars Vin Diesel having hilarious adventures with famous celebrities, which has been described as being both "brilliant" and "awful" by several critical views. I've also started its sister project, "Benny" starring Ben Affleck, although I may fold it into Vinhead since Ben Affleck appears as a supporting character several times.

I've been nominated for Best Humor and Best Writing awards as well, if that helps convince people that I'm not lying about people liking my poop joke web comic.

Bottom line is: If you're into black comedy, edgey material, b movies, or you like stuff that makes refrences to other stuff a lot, you'll love penis. If you're a family man whose very much against humor involving what a lot of the penis characters revel in (abortion, cultural differences, homosexuality, retardation, sales, feces, rape, murder, drug use, etc) than you probably won't like penis. In fact, you'll hate me just because I make something that includes some "adult themes and suggestive language and cartoon pictures" You will like theVin Diesel's adventures though, everyone likes it. Because everyone likes making fun of celebrities.

Now to talk about you guys comics:

HPK always does great work. His colors and line work is very nice, his characters are well designed, and he's a funny dude.

Bulletproof has an interesting comic book presentation with exceptionally high caliber artwork. I've been following it for a little while now, and its very good. Recently switched to a balck and white art style, that I think may be better than the colored style, due to the great use of contrasting black and white.

Fight 1 & 2 are both well drawn anime style comics. I must say that it is visually very interesting.

I can't say enough good things about Subculture's work. Its all excellent.

Used Books is nice also.

I think I hit everybody's work. I'll be back to post again in 24.

I'm not going to do this everyday, but I'll add to this thread when I post a page I have something to say about. I'll do it today and then be quiet awhile. :)

Today's page advances plot and contains pretty bold foreshadowing. Seiko has received a gift from her roommate Kaida's arch enemy. (Can normal, non-super people have arch enemies?) He's a serial killer who's hunting Kaida down and enjoying random mindless slaying whenever he gets a chance, and he's her ex-husband. The gift Seiko has gotten includes two plane tickets and a "suggestion" to leave town. Anyway, it's a page that causes one to think, "What the hell is Seiko thinking?" as she hides the card and lies about its sender. Art-wise, not one of my better pages, but the hands look okay (one of my many weaknesses), and I liked making the card it's own panel.

@penis
It's a comic that some days I find brilliant, some days juvenile, and some days I don't "get" it, as it is outside the realm of my experience. Since it pokes fun at so many aspects of crazy humanoid society, it varies, but marine's intellect and insight is always running as an undercurrent, so even if you don't like the look of a page or understand what it's about, you get the sense that considerable thought went into it. Sometimes I think marine's intellect/views would be more powerful if presented without the guise of a webcomic "poking fun" at webcomics. (Penis has clearly evolved beyond that in terms of writing but remained there in terms of art...) But, it does well in the rankings and with the masses, so I'm in no position to judge. ;) (Now that I have commented on Penis as a whole, I can leave the insanely long Penis posts up to marine. lol) Today's page is one I don't "get" as I'm not a gamer, but I like the idea of an old boxing character critiquing a modern RPG. I like the old video game appearance of the font too.

Today's page is the culmination of a humorous scene where Phira and her old friend, Lindsay, have been woken up by Phira's dad after a night of drinking (which Phira has never done before). In the previous page, Lindsay had made the mistaken assumption that Phira's dad was Phira's "boyfriend" (she hasn't seen him in 6 years and he's balded and grown a beard) and launched into a verbal tirade before Phira made her shut up. Now she has to sheepishly apologize to Doug and exit stage left. This leaves Phira in an awkward moment with her dad, who then decides to drop a bombshell concerning him and Crystal, Phira's mom.

@Used Books
I like how Used Books has progressed. The story has gotten quite deep and complex and I feel like I almost know several of the characters. I'm intrigued by the new arch and the foreshadowing. Art is solid, too, and I like the frame arrangements.

hpkomic: Really like that alien. This comic is really well drawn and colored. O_O
Using the shadow to make it look like he needs a morning shave was a good idea!

Hmmm, it seems I "regularly" comment on most of the author's comics posting here.
Well it's a new day and a new upload.

http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Devon_Legacy_Prologue/index.php?p=273009

What's going on? Well, the objective was to find the shield generator and destroy it so the Cyro Grands could swarm this base. They found the generator!

This page marks my 101 page in my story and there are just 2 updates until this issue is finished!
I can't wait to start issue 3! I'll be half way done with the Prologue!

This is a great time to start reading if you like lots of action and character building. Cause some exciting stuff is coming this way. Issue 3 is one of the 2 issues I wanted to draw the most out of my 6 issue prologue.

Read "The Devon Legacy".

Woohoo! Presence has updated earlier today (http://www.drunkduck.com/Presence/index.php?p=272683 ). Why should you read it? Well:
If you like to read poetry, but plain words bore the crap out of you, you can get poetry and full color pictures with Presence in comic form XD. The current poem is actually quite funny, so I suggest you check it out. It's in olde english, but it's done in a fun way; it's about a poor man who randomly falls in love with a beautiful girl (awww!) but when he confronts her...well, you'll later see, mwhaha. So far, there's two out of five pages to the story (Presence has 14 pages in all).

I guess that's all I have to say. Though I think my comic has its flaws, it sure is something unique that I have fun doing. So check it out! :D

@neilsama
I haven't read your comic in full, but I like how the latest page was done a lot. So +fave; I'll put it on my list and find time to read it. (But one suggestion, why don't you put your copywrite at the bottom of the page, or just somewhere on the site?).

Neilsama, Nicotine, you guys should leave some feedback on the comic that was posted before yours. Other people have been doing so.

Nicotine did. I do agree that this is a good rule and we should play by it, it'll stop this thread from becoming a pure plug-fest. Ssso...

@Presence: the art and the writing are really a perfect match here; the poetry is generally romantic without taking itself too seriously and occasionally verges into the humorous, and I love how the art does the exact same thing. Very nice. Good color composition, too.

Annd Bulletproof has updated today. The current page is pretty emotional, both because of its content and because I drew it the day we found out Mike Wieringo died, so I was feeling pretty low, and I think it rubbed off on my portrayal of the characters, especially Lindsay's father. Also, this page concludes the somewhat overly longish dialogue sequence. Asskicking shall ensue soon, but I'll save that talk for when I pester you with my next update.

Spacehmanster: Aha, I didn't realize, my bad. Anyway, I left a comment on your latest page, I figure it would probably mean more to get a comment on the page than to get a comment in a thread.

As for GHS , there's a new comic up with violence, aliens hitting on humans, and exercise machines! Plus, a profile for the character Bernell Marken from the upcoming Cosmic Dash comics.

Left comment on page. I thought she was playing an arcade game with virtual joysticks at first. Then the little guy prolly would've said something different, eh?

My comic FIGHT 2 is updated tonight. I'm learning a few more CG tricks, which makes my pages less and less blank (not that they ever looked blank to begin with), while still keeping that hand-coloured flavor.

FIGHT 2 has some of the best art I've mustered. Despite the title, currently the chapter is quite serene, so I lavish on backgrounds to pass the time... :p

American007 just updated today, and a rather dynamic update at that! Witness the action as one of the heroes takes charge and basically hands a nice heaping plate of ass kicking to one of the villains. Gore is there, and plenty of it! You'll might want to read it, and all the comics in the archives as well.

Anyways, Anarchy 2090 updated this morning. Why should you look at it? Because I said so? Yes.
But really, other than that it has a possessed highschool girl in a Catholic school uniform going on a bizerk rampage in a mall. I also tried some new angles for the first time, I hope you enjoy it! ^_^'

Saw your comments everywhere and now looking at your comic. Wow. Great job on the angles. Full body manga style without characters being chibi all the time! That's pretty awesome. Shows interest in drawing real style manga comics. And the coloring's good too.

@JillyFoo:
Interesting cover. Very moody. Your linework reminds me of Lienel Francis Yu's recent work on New Avengers. The coloring does as well. I don't think that style fits a bright happy comic like The Avengers (so in Yu's case, it's an odd fit), but I think it works really well with what you're doing a comic about!

My comic, The Adventures of Superchum and the Mighty Befrienders just updated this morning. And you should go check it out because:

1- It's super hero parody, so if you like The Tick, you might get a few chuckles out of Superchum.
2- It's somewhat polished considering I've been drawing a variation of it for 15 years.
3- It's bright. It's colorful. It's all-ages.
4- I tend to use a lot of fun sight gags and pop culture references.
5- He really is the world's friendliest super hero. He's out to make friends with people, not go wolvie beserker on them.
6- My villains are planning something right now. Something BIG! So big, they rented out a movie theater.
7- I'm one of the few in the media to take a stand and DEAL with Nicole Richie! (See page 1 of chapter 2 for the results)
8- I make a prediction as to who I think will play Wonder Woman in a movie (See page 2, chapter 2)
9- It's a great chance to preview the comic NOW, before you meet me in person at the Baltimore Comic Con on Saturday or Sunday, where you can pick up the 16-page special preview edition of the comic FOR THE LOW-LOW PRICE OF ONE DOLLAR! Dollar comics that the whole family can enjoy!

And 10- Help me in my time of emotional crisis. After being banned from Marvel.com for posting about NINJAS, I, the creator of Superchum, world's friendliest super hero, simply needs some new friends. Maybe even some who share my interest in ninjas.

Superchum... Love it!!!!
what a postive character! And Hilarious!

I love the art work and I think I have found a new FAV!!!!

Looking forward to new updates!

...how do I explain it? Take Japanes folklore, CSI, Cop Dramas, Comedy, Horror, and a bit of Sci- Fi and throw them together to stew and you have one kick arse comic...in my opinion. I just updated and my regular update schedule is Mondays and Fridays. We are currently in the middle of Chapter One and revealing more on our main character, Japanese American Police Detective Yokai Urufu (which translates to "Demon Wolf" from Japanese). I don't want to give away to much of the story but thus far Yokai has a past cloaked in darkness and filled with blood going all the way back to Feudal Japan. Chapter One begins with the disappearing of a fellow officer while trying to capture a serial rapist. How will Yokai be able to help find her and is there more to the disappearance as appears? ooooh the questions!!!! Pick up the trail and see where it leads.

Also Steve... will have ninjas!!!!

The main reason for me posting it here, is because Saturday is such a bad day to update =P, there are a lot of updates, so yours can go unseen, unless someone already knows you update =(
And I think it's a nice page, I've been improveing a bit. But still I don't think this is the best page I've ever made.
Feel free to leave a crit if you think it's necesary.
<--- by the way crits are more than welcome =D

You should take a look at the comic of the person who posts prior to you and give them some acknowledgment about the page. Such as commenting in the thread, or on their site.

Sorry if it seems like I'm playing board police, but I like this thread and I think we should stick to ze rules. I also think this thread should be a sticky because it's a really good idea.

EDIT Just saw hpkomic added mlai's suggestion to his original posted, so I switched quotes. Yep.

I've just updated!

It's not just a new page, I've changed my drawing style and even the characters haircut!
You should see it and tell me if it rocks your world or if it sucks a**!

To keep from cluttering up the thread, maybe we should stop reminding them and just "skip" the people who neglect to comment on the one before them. (In other words, comment on the last person who actually left a comment for someone else.)

I agree, if they don't wish to play the game, they shouldn't get to hold the ball.
