Dead Space is definitely a sick game :)

This is the first game in a LONG time that when I beat it, I played through it right then and there for a second time. Normally I play the game, beat it, leave it aside for several weeks (or months) and then come back and beat it again!

Not this game, once I beat it, I was so enthralled and excited at the bonus content that I played it through again with no other game break in between. That is the mark of a great game in my books.

Well done Deadspace! Well done!

I was manically consuming any news about this game I could find for months before it came out. Usually when I do that, the game's disappointing, but not Dead Space. Every single aspect of it was just polished to perfection (at least for me). Sound design, especially.

I also loved the prequel comics Ben Templesmith drew. The tie-in animated film, not so much, but the comics were awesome (particularly the motion versions I imagine you can find somewhere besides Xbox Live, but I watched them on XBL).

Hurrrr, same here. I've replayed that game so many times. I believe my sister is on her 8th time through it now (she's even gotten all of the achievements and even has the Tank suit).

With the exception of the original Resident Evil and very first Silent Hill for the PS1, I usually wind up disappointed with most games in the "survival horror" genre (although there's a lot of people who will argue that Dead Space isn't actually in that genre). But this game scared the crap out of me a number of times. Plus the so-called "strategic dismemberment" mechanism was a really original idea (nothing says "Oh shit!" like completely shooting off a monster's head, only to realize you've done nothing but piss it off).

EA Games also said that they're making a sequel, which I think they plan to release in Fall of next year.

How could people argue that Dead Space is not survival horror? I think all the pieces are there. If anyone here tells me that Deadspace is NOT a survival horror game then I would say you have a heart of stone and a demeanor to match!

*SPOILER...sorta*

The way the game ended, there was no doubt of a sequel. I can only hope that EA doesn't over do it. The game should stay within the bounds of a previously contrived story and not sprawl out only because it's lucrative. My 2 cents.

I think it has to do with how powerful you are in Deadspace. You get buzzsaw guns, and force powers, and all sorts of crazy shit you can do. Aside from the "BOO!" moments, it's really more of an action game in many respects.

It's a horror game, sure. But a sort of unwritten rule about "survival" games is that you kind of need to be at a greater disadvantage than usual in a video game for it to really count. It depends on how far yout hink it has to go before the player character is too "powerful" for the survival aspect to really deserve mention in the description.

I understand your point.

I did find myself scrounging for ammo in a few places and that regenerating "boss" put me on edge for a while (even if this idea was sorta ripped off from a Resident Evil game).

I get the thing about having some pretty powerful gear and all though. Thanks for the clarification.

Oh god, for me that was one of the most intense boss fights I've ever done (at least on the first playthrough). Having to constantly cut-off all it's limbs so it'll just stay down long enough for you to open a door and run away, only to have it tear a whole in the ceiling in the next room as it keeps chasing you...scared the crap out of me a couple of times. Pissed me off more than anything, too, until I finally realized you could use the stasis ability on enemies and not just machinery.

And yeah, the idea of a boss-that-won't-die chasing you through multiple areas is a bit of a rip-off of Nemesis from RE3. But I still think it was done really well in this case.

Deadspace is genius, all the creepiness of Event Horizon, with the gameplay that Resi Evil 5 SHOULD have had. Oh, and the necromorphs are awesome!

Dead Space is boring after three playthroughs.
